  • I never understood ANTYTHING that Digable Planets said in any of their songs, except for the phrase "nickel bag." But they sounded so good that I just nodded my head and kept goin. These cats should have been more famous than they were. People just weren't ready for their sound. smh. And Ladybug Mecca is a dime, AND she spits knowledge. Probably the most overlooked female MC ever next to Monie Love and MC Lyte.

  • /user/Knote13 Check me out! I'm a producer just getting started but a lot of my music is inspired by people like Nujabes, Pete rock, DJ premier, Nomak, No I.D., 9th Wonder, Blazo - with a little hint of my own style, of course. If you don't like me then look one of these Legends up.

    Peace!

  • I'm just saying, but Lady Mecca kind of looks Ethiopian in this video. No joke.

  • sick username. and this song is fuckin dope

  • This song just sounds like Brooklyn in the early 90s

  • top 3 hip hop video

  • the real hip hop classic street lingo

  • Ppl ask me why I'm single and I usually dont have an answer and then I saw Butterfly again and remembered because the real men are in Brooklynnnn!!!!!!!

  • There are some good hiphop artists today, they're just not widely popular.. I don't get why people insist on liking the fake bullshit when there's plenty of real art out there

  • @Kris10MichelleRoss JUST WONDERING WHO IS ACTUALLY REAL THESE DAYS? I WOULD LOVE TO KNOW LIST OF ARTIST?

  • 90's hip-hop & today's hip-hop is like oil & vinegar, like night & day, like real & fake, like greatest & wackness, like good shit & bullshit, aaarrghhhh I could fucking go on & on..And yes Ladybug Mecca is sexy:)

  • damn ladybug is fuckin fine

  • Cool, I've never seen this before. Love Blowout Comb album tho,..

  • ZOMFG ZOMFG she's the one that was in "Cunninlynguists - Seasons" !!! i knew it, shes the one that says "play me in the winter, play me in the summer.... " i knew i recognized her voice :D

  • u wantem i got it dripp it like water

  • @jamster6661 snoop dogg sampled dat shit.

  • oh man how i miss being 13 years old 1995 brooklyn ny smokin weed in the streets the summertime vibing with all the people

  • Other than Ladybug's classic verse on this song, this is nowhere near the level of anything they dropped on Reachin. I don't really know what influenced their change but I miss their shit from 93.

  • @escierda what!!! Cee Knowledge (Doodle Bug) ripped his verse and Ish was nice too....I agree with you about the entire album as a whole however it would have been hard for anyone to top that since they blow so fast....

  • @HopeProject336 Butterfly sounded off to me in his verse. No memorable lines, his flow was mediocre at best, and he had little to no charisma in comparison to all of his verses on Reachin. He sounded like a completely different MC. Doodle's verse was better but didn't really sound great either. The beat, even though dope, didn't match both of their verses and flows. Also, to top it off, Ladybug looks completely different. They all changed on this album lyrically, stye-wise, and physically.

  • 2:26 mean muggin in a koala tee...only in '94

  • Where was Rockstar when this song was around?? This should have been in San Andreas :/

  • @r33Skyline09 GTA: SA used West Coast hip hop and Digable Planets is East Coast hip hop, so they wouldn't fit in on that sountrack

  • @BewareOfTheDoggz ah thanks fo clarifying that bud

  • @BewareOfTheDoggz PLAYBACK FM! i jammed that station on gta sa, gangstarr, brand nubian, eric b and rakim, biz, P.E..... all the east coast cats. i think this track would have fit in perfectly there.

  • wat did she mean by 68 inches above sea level??

  • @snooks2008 I think she's 5 foot 8

  • New to the word cool like dat..

  • respect every time. DP stepped out with this this album

  • damn you can hear the difference to the shit of these days no soul because everyone sold theirs, we need to get this stuff to the younger generation, im young too but im already missing the real hip hop

  • Jazzy Joyce and Ladybug Mecca...my new heroes.

  • real!!!!

  • Want it, i got it, drippin like water.

  • BAM!what a flow!!!!

  • weird that its israeli money at the end -.-

  • Comment removed

  • If u still checking for Ish watch Jake One's "Home". Ish rips it plus he came home for real.

  • Unbelievable Track. Digable is so amazing. Brilliant Groove!

  • lady bug mecca! beautiful dope... no tits and ass hanging out... respected!

  • This was an obsession back in the day, I played the album pretty much every day.

As a white hip hop fan, I gotta say I wish hip hop had stayed this way, seeing them on Yo! MTV Raps for the 1st time blew my mind.

  • First time I've seen the video. Bad-Ass.

  • Dig da planets man. This was when hip hop was the shit man. When "lyrics" actually meant somethin. Great post.

  • Even though gagnsta rap got all the media attemtion, this was the best decade for hip hop hands down East to West. Heiroglypihics, The Nonce, Pharcyde, De La Soul, DP, and Tribe Called Quest to name a few. The sound quality of this video doesn't do this song justice though because the bass line was hard and militant just like the message. " 98 million miles above these devils"

  • I see D-P are touring again...

  • I miss Digable Planets. thanks for the post.

  • Amazin' video,amazin' track,amazin' group.

  • I think the creative leap from their first to second albums is on par with A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul and Gang Starr. They all could've fallen off after their first record, but they re-upped and released masterpieces.

That having been said, this record is DYING for a remaster. Whoever was responsible for putting the vocals so low in the mix should be clubbed to death with a microphone.

  • I cant believe they're like two crazy good sample's she made in like one sentence

  • YO that's the old F.A.

  • Golda on that bill), damn!!! No white/ blue flag in rap game. I wish ...

  • PROPER.

  • awsome

  • I remember I used to argue with my friends back in High School as to who was the best back then: Bahamadia, Lady Mecca, Lauryn Hill.. What a conundrum that was...

  • "Now you see that I'm 68 inches above sea level. 93 million miles above these devils. Play me in the winter. Play me in the summer. Play me in the autumn....any order."

  • Tune!

  • hip hop was so much better back then

  • Have played this song so many times , it's rediculous. Bu its the BEST .

  • classic "...u want em? I got it/ drippin' like water..." Snoop sample...classic

  • love this video this is one of the realist videos all the graffiti and trash was how it was and still is now when they go to make a video they make sure to cover up the graff

and im mad wayne took the you want it i got it drippin like water from this song

  • WHERE ARE THE GATS, THE HOES, AND THE CRACK?

oh snap, i forgot. this is real hip-hop.

  • @reh629 I really wish I could shake your hand thru the internet. Big ups to you

  • @reh629 Lame ass cracker comment. THis is Black hiphop.

  • @reh629

It's like the 3rd line..."creamy kid yo smith and wesson win a blessin"

Also..."make sparks from the barrel of me-tal pis-tol"

Still, this was and remains an outstanding track - just disgusting...the way they slowed this James Brown beat right down to a crawl. They found a gem!

  • @reh629 indeed!

  • @reh629

Like Flavor Flav says Yeeeeaaaaaaaah Boiiiiiiiiiii you got that right

  • @reh629 Biggie Smalls? oh yeah.... he was hip hop too...

  • @reh629 Amen to your comment just got to add to that... its skill how they dont need to cuss in their lyrics!

  • @reh629 and even if it was about those things, it was about the horror not glorification of guns, drugs and sex.
