What always catches my Eye when doing a "Day for Night" conversion, is that the Sky is brighter than the actual footage, and that's why it doesn't look like it really is night... So, somehow you've got to make the Sky dark.
There is this new thing called a green screen. If you have the right software you can make flawless night scenes, flawless sped up scenes, and flawless rain scenes..
@Reels2010 We need to explain the technique, but we always try to demonstrate it as well. Hopefully we'll get even more demonstrations in future videos.
@poplu13 Go to our site, click the "Downloads" tab, scroll down and click the "3D Model Resources" in the "Miscellaneous Downloads" section. Also, click the "Reviews" tab, click the "Software" link, then the "Animation" link. Also, type "14885" into the "search videomaker" window (that the article # for our most current Buyers Guide). Hope these help.
Hey I need to get a camera that has good quality, and that films in hd. I know of some pretty good dslr cameras such as the cannon 60d, should I get a dslr camera or semipro/regular filming camera? thank you please reply
I have a simple cheapy Vado HD video camera but the tutorial here set my imagination going. for the DFN, maybe change the hue a little and darken the video clip in my editor. I dont plan on any heavy duty serious movie productions so for now that works for me. Thanks again for another great tutorial.
Ok I have an idea about the sped up background. Couldnt you take footage of just the background, then take seperate footage of your actor infront of a green screen. Slow the footage of the actor and speed up the background footage, then chroma key them together?
@SupperKaate Dont blame Sony to go slow and the lag. I have used my Insignia HD 720P picket cam footage in it and had no isses. Also I have been messing with footage shot with my Canon HF100 R HD camcorder and have not had lagging issues. The lagging issues etc could be caused due to your computer. Also HD takes a lot of time to render.

I have a question about the dfn. If you were to be using a flashlight for the dfn scenes would it look like a flashlight beam still?. The character in my film usually has a flashlight. Thanks.
@JetflashCruzA Ha ha, If you have a good chroma key program you can go to detonationfilmsDOTcom and they have excellent blood effects (Then you simply add Chroma Key.)
@RavenRof Then why the hell are you watching this video for huh? These guys are trying to help people that want to learn. Not you. so why dont you go point up ur hose up ur @ss.
@Coles109 this is bad learning material. Want to learn anything decent? try videocopilot (dot) net I came here to learn, i saw the material and it sucks. As everyone else on the internet i have an opinion and i'm free to publicly announce it. Maybe my opinion helps someone else not to lose 6.32 minutes of their life.
I've tried out the rain effect some time ago, which looked really good and can say that overcast can give the best results for selling the effect.
The DFN wasn't what I was expecting. It looked like an early morning because of the visible bright sky. I know that some people shoot during sunny day and somewhere like you did, so that there would be some shadows that would look like casted by the moon. I noticed that night effect looks great when there's a feel of moon and dark or no visible sky.
In the DFN why not do the colour and exposure in post? Is there a good reason for doing it while recording?
marcel911 4 hours ago
theres an easier solution for the raining effect. wait for it to rain.

Good day for night tip. It makes sense, but that was something I had not considered before. Very easy and useful, thanks!
Matthew13tube 2 years ago
The sped up part was awful.
1. Why would the guy who was filming move the tripod?
2. I probably don't have to tell how bad it looked when you cropped in the person to the background. Why move the tripod between the two shots??
Otherwise the tips were good. Though your video quality still is pretty bad in every video you put up... Fix it.
