  • thumbs up if you just love this music and wasn't brought here from this ikea they talk about?

  • hey hey! Av You tried - H Be Gone (probably on Google)? Ive heard interesting things about it and my cooworker at last kissed good bye to pretty bad hemorrhoids with it.

  • Great dance moves!

  • Found this from the IKEA ad :L Love this song!

  • This works good with Ikea because the whole advert is about kitchens. Lol.

  • the girls are smokin

  • @gcalley1 Holy s**t we got the next sherlock holmes here. :P jk.

  • awesome song, the girls are hot

  • Thumbs up if u got here from ikea ad

    :P

  • Girl in the green dress leads-in too early @ 2:30 ... ooops! Hahaha

  • hey i love jonah....any other longtime viz readers notice that he looks rather like tynesides silver tongue cavalier sid the sexist lol?

  • I saw this in the IKEA ad, but I didn't know it was a real song until I heard it on the radio the other night.

Why does it work SO well for IKEA?

  • I was brought here by watching Sue Wilkinson. I have never seen an Ikea ad. We don't have Ikea in Idaho. I like the understated style of this song. It has become a guilty pleasure.

  • I love it

  • I love Jona!

  • Them girls are a right fucking state!!!! Thumbs up if you agree

  • Looking at some of the comments I guess he is gay, had no idea, but you know what - it don't matter ! Jona's music is great, nothing else is relevant.

  • is he gay

  • Nothin' wrong with being in the kitchen at parties..that's where all the drunken sluts hang out >:D

  • love it :)

  • thumbs up if you found this song from the IKEA advert!

  • the 2 female backing singers are way fitter in the ikea ad

  • Such a fun song - very catchy <3

Randomly raved to it in the car =D

  • ikea

  • This is one of the worst songs I've ever heard. It's like absolutely no effort was put in on any part of it. Terrible.

  • @joshieboy15 It's understated genius!

  • @stafford1an How though? The guy can't even sing! He's pretty much just talking. And the lyrics are boring.

  • @joshieboy15 Numbers talk for themselves... just under 200000 hits 9 dislikes...

if you don't like don't watch!!!! and let us who appreciate, enjoy...

good bye you are the weakest link!!!

  • @the69removalist I respect that other people like this, I just don't agree. It's my opinion.

And popularity isn't an accurate measure of something's worth. Adolf Hitler was popular...

  • @joshieboy15 Your reply has shown that you are mature and worth a debate.. thank you for not resorting to a slanging match and i can respect your opinion.. I still love this song as did Ikea... your music appreciation would be?

  • @the69removalist Oh, there is certainly no need for name calling and swearing. That's something kids do.

I simply found this song to be very strange and confusing. I still don't quite understand it. I guess I prefer more bombastic, dramatic music. Something with bold melodies and cryptic lyrics.

  • @joshieboy15

    I love this song...

  • Classic never new that this is the guy that did 'stop the cavalry' . Now i know i feel a bit daft, it's so obvious.

  • IKEA brought me here...

  • great music

  • Someone stole the green dress girl's voice at 2.30

  • @FWFWFWF hahaha you are so right i think she got her intro wrong

  • too cool for school always was

  • I'm with fjsm33, it gets better every time I see it: :-) I love the music anyway but the video just cracks me up. I can't decide if the keyboard player is Roger Mcgough or Nick Robinson from the BBC after a big night out. :-)

  • SO COOL!!!!

  • I want to go to a do in Palmers Green

  • in other words "woman get back in the fucking kitchen"

  • better every time i see it

  • I wish they'd show that bit of intro where the dj says "and now live from the BBC kitchen, here's Jona Lewie". I distinctly remember someone saying that at the beginning.

  • hmmm.... why does he do that over the guy's head at 0:25?

  • ...Is that Kirsty McCall in the red dress?

  • @coltsuperocean10

    No!

She is in another version on utube in a yellow dress tho

  • @coltsuperocean10

Is that Bob Andrews playing synthesizer?

  • @MrHoefnix , sorry I dont know who Bob Andrews is.

  • @coltsuperocean10 Bob is Mrs Andrews' son...

  • You n' me both, Jona.

  • bruticus75, years ago when you first walked into a party the blokes would go to the kitchen cus thats where all the beer was, where has the girls would be in the room with music, some blokes would mingle others would wait for the girls to come into the kitchen for a drink and start talking to them, why go to them when they will come to you so to speak,

  • State of those 2 birds.

I was sucking off a bird that looked like that the other night and then I thought, wait a minute.....

  • @feder11

better than sucking off Lewie. Mind you, he'd probably like it, the dirty old queer.

  • @feder11 do u recognize any of the chicks hairy

  • definitely superhands..... awesome song.

  • Why is he in the kitchen at parties???? That's not his place, that's the place of a woman to cook and wash the pots. This guy has got it so wrong!

  • @bruticus75 years ago when blokes went to partys they would go to the kitchen cus that where the beer was,and the girls would be in the room with the music, some blokes would mingle others would wait for the girls to come to the kitchen for a drink and start talking to them, why go to them when they will come to you,so to speak.

  • The backing singer in the green dress is Kirsty MacColl who later had a Chrismas hit with Shane MacGowan with Fairy Tale In New York

  • I remember when JL asked me to play a game of table-tennis with him at a gig because he thought I was a roadie and not a punter. Fancy a game now, Jonah? Hope all is still well with you. lol

  • his voice is ace hah

  • wow this brings back memories!

  • @cr41gsh Indeed so. I heard it on a old time radio station the other day, and thought, wow, I haven't heard this one for years. It does bring back memories of younger days and some of the parties I went to back then. Safely leant up against the kitchen worktop of course, with a cig in my mouth and a drink (usually Cinzano or something equally hideous) after the beer had run out.

  • love the song, dumb goofy and so very catchy, love it..thanks

  • Hate the Rebuff,,

  • She will Always Find Me In The Kitchen At Parties

  • One of the few 80's songs I still like. He's got the personality of a sock, but I love the

    video

  • Our new kitchen is too small. Cant wait to extend the fuckin thing then ill be there on the piss with the lads....cos you normally find me in the kitchen at partys

  • Luv Ya Jona... Keep GAY!!!!

  • wow i remember tht you were aloud to smoke live while singing the girl in the red dress if you llok every now and then she takes a puff and puts it down!!!

  • Is that singer in the red dress a young Kathy Burke??

  • lol at his dancing at the end.

  • Four people spend their time in the Livingroom.

  • The red 'backing vocal' in the red dress is stoned as f***! :-)

  • @MrVegy i reckon shes just really bored

  • ftw

  • great track from the 80's.women singers should be replaced by dogs would be better

  • Not here because of the Ikea advert... I bought my Dad a Stiff Records CD for Christmas and saw this on it, haven't heard it in ages! I could maybe have got away with sneakily playing the CD but it was wrapped in plastic...

  • Lets Get Jonah Lewie to number 1 for xmas and beat the Xfactor!!!!

  • @SuperTruth77 Yes, please, take the one in red, no one else will. ;)

  • Jona - Our GAY Icon - Luv Ya.

  • This (and Musik Laden) are definitely the best versions of this catchy. clever and cool song to be uploaded on Youtube, The girl in green is Beautiful!

  • @Propinkwity I'll take the one in the red- deal?

  • Thank god for good old British synth pop!

  • 2:05 !! wow some sexy moves he has!!!!

  • @ThaRaccoon so I've heard!

  • I liked this song before the Ikea advert.

  • It's perhaps difficult to understand now but at that time there were still a lot of guitar based bands.Synth stuff had been underground for a while, but suddenly it became chart music. Many were scornful of synth music, people thought it was fake, tinny, and cheating. In my head, it was the new world and overnight, even punk seemed dead, let alone Pink Floyd. To me, Jona Lewie and also Fad Gadget ( Frank Tovey) are synth heroes: lead singers that didn't wave a guitar about but played keyboards.

  • @fixbarber73 Pink floyd have never been dead ;)

  • oh man I just GOTTA do that dance at all this Christmas's parties. And that Lady in the green dress- wow what a gorgeous smile as she sidles up to Jona. And I got to learn the steps to that 'new dance'

  • Reached no.2 in 1980 - only denied top spot by 'The Cliff', who seemed to own number 1 back then..

If you look quickly enough, he makes an appearance in the IKEA ad.. in the kitchen!!

  • @littlestalkergirl It's called 'How To Talk To Girls At Parties.' I saw him give a reading at CBGB Gallery, and he talked about the Jona Lewie song. It's in his collection 'Fragile Things.'

  • It featured on an episode of "The Young Ones" when they had a party!

  • the singer in the red dress looks stoned out of her mind

  • 2:42 "you will always find me in the kitch...en with a knife and the bloody corpses of my lovely wife and 2 children"

  • where did you get the Scottish part from?

  • Love this song... such an ear-worm thou :| x

  • Neil Gaiman wrote a story around this song... very funny

  • it sounds alot better in the ikea advert but still amazing song ;b

  • AWESOME SONG!

  • It went to no 2 in the charts, when it was released in the 80s?

How did a "furniture warehouse" make it a hit??????????

  • I always leave my stuff piled up in the sink also.

  • beautiful thing about music.....ye never know when it's gonna pay you back....... ;-)

  • @megaanbaby1 fair enough ...like ya style kid ...i am eating humble pie as i write ...

  • wonder if anyone noticed him featured in the ikea advert, at the sink!!

  • haha now its number 21 in ireland :-D

  • ddgregoryy you are right, and Kirsty is in yellow dress in the WiggyOfStHelens2008 video and it doesn't appear to be her in this video. As chanc8r38 said, she did do the backing vocals for this track (and plenty of other tracks through out the 80's) This track was released May 1980, Kirsty was 20 years old

  • @da1e2003 I forgot she married Lillywhite, Who did Allison Moyet marry then.

  • kirsty did do the origonal backing vocals she was 17 at the time i believe but its not kirsty in this clip

  • The woman in the red dress is Kirsty MacColl

  • @da1e2003 That's not Kirsty, you want the wiggyofsthelens version then the late Kirsty is in yellow, check out her cover of billy Bragg's New England.

  • i wanna do that dance they do together lol

  • 1980, i must be getting old.
