I simply found this song to be very strange and confusing. I still don't quite understand it. I guess I prefer more bombastic, dramatic music. Something with bold melodies and cryptic lyrics.

It's perhaps difficult to understand now but at that time there were still a lot of guitar based bands.Synth stuff had been underground for a while, but suddenly it became chart music. Many were scornful of synth music, people thought it was fake, tinny, and cheating. In my head, it was the new world and overnight,even punk seemed dead, let alone Pink Floyd. To me, Jona Lewie and also Fad Gadget ( Frank Tovey) are synth heroes: lead singers that didn't wave a guitar about but played keyboards.
