This scene makes me extremely sad to see him sit down and think "what the fuck am I doing?" but then he gets up and still has the same mentality he has had the whole movie like "fuck it, i'm just gonna do whatever." Amazing clip
Incredible scene- To me this scene means when everything around you goes to shit in your life go back to your passions, what you really love to do- Get peace of mind back , and what truly makes you happy
This scene is about how much anguish Skip has for becoming what he has become (in Skip's case, a sellout and a wash up; in Rod's case, a broken-hearted man). He doesn't have to say a word, because the music and the body language tell it all. Shakespeare once quipped that "brevity is the soul of wit"; Skip being able to convey his emotion without saying anything at all is the epitome of soul. That's why people love this scene.
@captainphoenix Yeah, right on! The audience got the idea that he was making and selling boards for some wannabe skaters, not spirited skaters... he had to sell his store, and Heath Ledger transmits that sadness on this scene.
This scene is one my favourites too. And I don't know why. It's so short to have any real gravity and profoundness but man it sticks with you and is profound somehow. Heath Ledger owns this song now in my mind.
great actor. like i know everyone flips when they talk about him in dark knight, which he was awesome, but even in a knights tale. I mean, honestly, he was perfect for every movie he has ever acted in. what a great guy. rip bro.
oh my god i'm flippin out right now this is my all time favorite part in this movie and i took a chance clicking on this!!! thank you thank you for posting!
heath ledger just makes it come alive. It's not the song... or the room... or the lighting... it's him and his brilliance. it's not even important to anything, only some damn brilliant character analysis mixed with pure awesome.
He is great in this movie... I actually didn't realize it was him playing Skip until about twenty minutes into it, his accent is so gnarly. If you haven't seen this movie you should, it is excellent and will give you some history too. This scene has taken on a much different meaning, but it still gives me hope when I'm not feeling so great.
willpat2...i agree and disagree....hes defintley bumming hardcore cause of whats lost..but hes also happy cause hes still doing the same shit he loves..u can tell how he sings the tune...and heath was..is..and will always be brillant in front of a camera.
@gjcall2 I think because it's a very real scene. When I watch it I feel like this could be me, or anybody. It's a little heartbreaking given Skip's situation but at the same time it makes you smile. I think it beautifully illustrates the conflict the character is going through. Also the lyrics are really nostalgic; makes me sad but damn I love it too!
Amazing how music can lift the spirts even in time like these, with whiskey and ciggs, still has the will to work and sing along! Good potrayal of life, the Irony of being sad and happy at the same time!
@Lengsel7 idk how the drinking went but hes not doing too bad for himself. now runs SMA skates. i personally am much happier seeing him there than in the back of his once-was shop thinking about all the mistakes he made in life, instead of what a great person he is.
this film made me pay attention to how good Heath Ledger and Emile Hirsch were at acting, Lords of Dogtown is such a wicked film, deserves more recognition than it gets!
@danathor99 hopefully Christopher Nolan will hire Emile Hirsch for the next Dark Knight movie. I know Heath Ledger kicked ass at the role of the Joker but I think that if Emile Hirsch were given the opportunity he could nail it.
if you seen the movie and paid attention. real carefulyyy.. his boss is the guy he kicks out at the beggining of the movie before he gets the new wheels..thumbs up if im right. :)
This is a great scene from a great movie! I remember watching it and immediately reaching for the remote control to rewind and watch this scene again. Heath was great! I didn't realize it was even him til pretty far into the movie. Another interesting piece of information is that his boss that asks him about the surfboard being ready is the same guy that was ran out of the Surf Shop near the beginning of the movie. Now HE'S the boss!
I still have this movie til this day, this scene was so catching with everything how you see he tries to keep his spirits up even though things have gone downhill he still has the memories such a ghreat film with great actors
this isn't s depressing scene guys... skip is finally getting clean,, cleaning up his life and doing what he's good at, making boards. if anything this is A very hopeful scene.
