  • that level of bureaucracy, more or less, exists in ex-commie est-European nations; those in the EU are being pressured to reduce it, but than again the EU itself is often criticized for being too bureaucratic....

  • It's simple Cenk, cancel your subscribtion with Direct T.V. and find another more suitable company.

    Problem fixed.

  • Dammit, corporations are not to be trusted!

  • No choice with satellite TV. Programing is about the same. You get a package with tons of crap. Dishnetwork's non-hd stream was less compressed with 544 x 480 video and 192 kbps audio. This is why I used it for years. But when they threw in Fox News and more paid advertising and religious crap for "free" I told them to fuck off. I feel better after disconnecting from that world. I would like to be connected though. I wonder about those huge expensive dishes which cover other bands.

  • Why don't you drop DirectTV and get something else? That's why DirectTV sucks... people put up with their BS.

The private industry isn't always the best, but it's generally more efficient because of competition.

  • Kind of like your blanket statement. huh?

  • govts are full of wasteful spending, going into iraq for no weapons of mass destruction isnt wastefull, both in terms of lives and money.WAKE UP! Why ,all of a sudden are people worried about insurance mulitnationals!!You hear all these conservatives complaining about sending aid overseas" lets look after the people here first"..then when someone wants to do that, they shit on it! WTF.fact is alot of these assholes suck the dick of insurance companies, kick backs alla round, their meal ticket is up!

  • I would love to see tort reform; have insurance companies compete nationwide; tax break for individual market insurance not just job based insurance; elimination of low life time caps; cheaper COBRA insurance; and various other reforms. Just because I dont support reforms that arent funded and will add to the deficit doesnt mean I dont want change.

  • Anytime I've ever bought something on eBay and paid extra to have a 3rd party make the delivery it was taken much longer. Sometimes even weeks longer. Usually when I simply choose to have the post office deliver it at no additional cost it's there within 2-3 days.

    So true.

  • Great analogy!

  • universal health care saved my life when i was 18,govt is about the people, they should protect the tax payer,i dont care about insurance companies profits,or competition, not eveything in health car should be about profit.Thats why its called CARE.Fuck the crazy tea party douche bags, wanting to give more power to insurance companies, what happened to caring for the people of this country?.Insurance companies control so much in the U.S,and your scared of govt health care, whats teh difference.wakeup

  • I just think the issue at stake should be to look back at the basic definition of INSURANCE, If I cannot have my insurance when I most need it then how does is it fulfilling its purpose?

  • Also Cnek is wrong about his analogy, you have to compare and contrast two seperate but like things.

Like USPS vs. UPS or Fedex.

Here is the difference if a service provider does not offer you what you want you vote with your wallet. IMHO somteimes goverment intervention or take over is necessary, but not always. We need to try to be more pragmatic, lets pass the legislation in pieces see what works what does not.

  • I can't think of one Private company I deal with that isn't a screwed up mess at one time or the other. From the Cable TV service that goes out when the wind blows, right along with the Electricity. To my insurance companies, who keep changing the due date on the policy from one time to the next.

Yet in the worst snow storms, my mail get here. My water is always on, my road gets cleared and cops are out directing traffic.

  • Cable tv is a monoply that is appointed by the goverment.

    2) water districts are usually private companies. They sell to the public.

    3) If your electricity is owned by private company then it is through a public monoply that they sell to you,

You leave out a whole slew of private services, do you include the day to day dealings you have with the store or other private companies? How about the DMV do you enjoy standing in line?

  • My water comes from the city not a private co. I pay my bill to the city, not a private co.

In my town the DMV is not a long wait and I'm in and out of there in less than a 1/2 hr when I need to get some business done. And the PO has two branches all within the small city area, quick in and out there other than the holidays.

Unlike my weekly visits to my grocery store!!

  • i dont know what state you are in but sometimes, not always water companies will sell to the public who will resell it at a profit, the water company is not agent that is acting as the purchaser of your agreement however they service the mains because they are contracted by the city. Depending on jurisdiction.

Also your telling me you never have had a bad experience at a public office or a good experience at a private office? If the grocery store is not giving what you want find another.

  • The greatest part of a capitalistic society is that you vote with your money who moves on. Competition makes this country great and a reward system that benfits people who inovate rather then stagnate.

  • A problem comes when you have too much goverment intervention and sometimes too little, for example in CA we have too lmuch net result,

Companies are leaving the state in droves. Which is making us having one of the highest Unemployment Rates in the country.

Hell even hollywood does not even want to business here anymore. You cant keep raising taxes or trying to make things fair for everyone because at the end of teh day you cant make goverment into a charity, and two some ppl misuse

  • Our lives and those of the people we love shouldn't be the commodity for competition and profit.

Competition for medical devices or medications, yes, that drives down cost, but for the service of a Doc or hospital care, when a life is at stake, no..never.

  • I don't want to debate, to the letter, every public or private institution I've had dealings with in my life time..it's a stupid debate.

My health, your health is about our lives, having access to medications and treatments when we need them. It's not about a DMV or a big screen TV debate. Our lives should not be the vehicle for profiteers or Wall St. Period.

  • We need to return to free market healthcare, like it was before the 70's. We have had hybrid facist care for the last 40 years, not free market.

  • all of you that say "a problem with the cable? you can just go and buy a new cable" are missed the point, he payed for the insurance, if he calls DRTV to come and fix it then it costs him nothing, fixing it himself would cost him money, so then what the fuck was the point of him buying the insurance, duh

  • it's true, the post office is a goddamn miracle machine. I honestly don't have any idea how it works, but it certainly does.

  • Ummm...fuck direct TV!

  • ahh come on cenk you called the satelite company over a damn cable? you can fix that with a few house tools... just need some tape, scissors, and pliers and you could've fixed it in no time...

  • and voided any and all warranties for his service, breached his contract with the satellite company, and possibly electrocuted himself?

i'd call the pro every time.

  • trust me you don't get your service voided for having a lil duct tape on the line that connects the dish to your tv... maybe if you open the box or something like that

  • Comment removed

  • I'd say use dish... but... you know I work for them... so it's hard to say theyre GREAT lol. At least you wont get "wrong department" bullshit...

  • Direct TV pulled the same shit with my Grandparants.. Showed up to install then said the same shit.. oHh wrong department shit

  • We don't need a public option. When was the last time anyone complained about having trouble getting in to see an optometrist, or having to pay uncompetitive prices. Ever wonder why they aren't part of hospitals anymore? Hospitals fought in the 80's to get them exempt from the stark laws so they could kick them out as they were seen as unprofitable by hospitals. As a result they are not subject to non-competition laws (stark) and can operate in the free market. Hospitals can be the same.

  • Cenk, you should have just bought a cable at radio shack.

  • I have a hunch that if you asked people from every other country in the world, they'd have a different opinion...

  • No. Ignorant loudmouths like you... are.

  • Can u really call Obama an embarassment to the U.S. after your guy for 8 years? Like him or not embarrassment is the last word you could use. He regained a shit load of respect from the rest of the world that bush lost for us in a big way. Think before you speak loser.

  • I would say the entire system and the lowering of civil discourse due to right wing nuts becoming the main stream is an embaressment to the US.Obama is not the embaressment the embaressment to the us is people like u who had all that respect for the office bs when bush was in their who was 10 times the embaresmnet now are calling the prez of the us a communist socialist and a muslim. The ignorance and hatred and racism of our people is the embarssment

  • Repub politicians are always saying how they (the government) can't be trusted for anything... but vote for me. That is like taking you car to a mechanic to get it fixed and having the mechanic tell you that he (mechanics) can't be trusted to fix your car correctly... but let me do it anyway. Repubs are so stupid it is sad.

  • I think Cenk's true point is that industry can excel without the profit movtive.

While the private company was pretty much like, "Screw you, we aren't beholden to you, we don't need your business"

  • people keep asking, how are we gonna pay for healthcare? And i say. if we can pay for 2 wars and country building on the other side of the world.... then we can pay for anything!! Apparently, money grows on trees and spits out of toilet bowls when we pay for guns and fun. But healthcare? we don't wanna pay for healthcare, cuz we don't see it as an immediate threat.... not like terrorists!

  • Interesting as always!

    5 stars from Japan !

  • Ah! I can't count how many times I had a battle with my insurance company. But none were wost than the time when it took forever to cover the charges for a surgery to remove a cancerous tumor. My family had to work extra to help me cover the charges since they wouldn't cover it in time, before the deadline that could've caused me to have another battle with the collections agency.

  • Can you imagin you government running health care. How would you like to be the book keeper on that mess . Always running nagative balance.

  • hmm so lets let the private insurnce market handle it.They might have all black in their profits but then then the whole damn country is in the red on their personal finances.Health insurence is the #1 cause of bankruptcy in this country. But dont worry Im sure if u get sick and ur insurence country screws u so u or ur fanily have no choice but go bankrupt or die that rush and hannity will bail u out right.

  • They honestly believe that their brother or mother or children will bail them out. Ignorance is bliss until you need someone to fill the prescription for you.

  • I work in customer service. Like... how do people keep these jobs.

  • i had the same experience with directv....i love directv...but god do i hate their customer service, they are facking useless...at least verizon fios REALLY does fix the problem...

  • That's when you call up Direct tv and say, "I'd like to cancel my service. I'm going to a more competent company." I guarentee they get it fixed the next day. A similar thing happened to me with my bank. After going in 3 seperate times to deal with a simple problem I finally said,"I want to withdraw my money and close all of my accounts." They fixed my problem within 10 minutes after I said that. You just have to let people know that they aren't the only consumer in town & you have other options

  • I also have DirecTV. Where I live they use a company called DirectPath to do any physical repairs that need to be done. Over a span of 2 years I have had THE WORST customer service from directpath you could possibly imagine. Its to the point now whenever i announce i have to call them my g/f leaves the room b/c i wind up spazzing out!!!

  • quality of service differs everywhere you go, public or private- i.e. i hate fed ex in my area i <3 ups but the city my friend lives in fed ex is10xs faster

or for public the dmv - the first one i went to i waited for 3 hours to get turned away by some fat jerk for no reason. the next one i went to the second i walked in the door i took my test no problems

anyways my point is the bigger the company the wider range of quality so privates really not as bad as you make it out to be

  • All you have to do is just go with dishnetwork, get everything installed and setup for free, and fuck directtv

  • In some areas of the UK, people most often have a 'Direct TV' experience with their local NHS trust.

  • What a coincidence. I just quit DirecTV because when they came to hook me up, they unhooked by home entertainment system and then refused to put it back the way it was. The proper response is to punish bad behavior in the marketplace.

  • his example is like comparing apples with oranges.

  • Well Cenk doesn't Murdoch own DirecTV? He's out to get YOU!!!! hahahahaha

  • Time Warner does not own any human being.

  • What an awful example...direct TV guy won't fix the cable, lmao...

  • Are they Union workers doing the DTV work where he lives? You need one guy to go out that only works on equipment, Then a guy who ONLY re-splices cables. Then you'll have another guy that only tests cables, then you'd have a fourth guy who's only job is to stand in front of the TV to yell to the other 3 if it's working. Pretty sad it'd take 4 guys to do a 1 man job. I own my own business and fulfill all 4 functions myself. I'm sure my example is exaggerated but I hear horror stories like it

  • two words. CAN CEL. ida cancelled that shit so motherfucking fast.

  • Old social conservative people hate a public option, yet they want their Medicare? Doesnt anyone else smell the Republican Brainwash + Oxyclean?

  • Yeah, and if your "concerned neighbour" is a doctor you'll be fine. If he's a cable guy you're screwed.

And anyway, how small is YOUR town,

tehant1liberal, when everyone in it is a concerned neighbour? That'd be nice if it were so, but it just isn't.

You're spreading manure over the internet, my friend. Do it somewhere useful, like a field someplace in the Bible Belt, and leave the politics to the adults, okay?

  • I mean, really: "mindless beurecrats [sic] in charge of your life"?

What the hell do you think an insurance company representative is, a Disney character? No, they're mindless beaurocrats WHO STAND TO MAKE MORE MONEY IF THEY CAN DENY YOU YOUR HEALTHCARE. At least a government employee won't be profiteering on sickness. Get a grip, America.

  • I would love to have a public option to watch cable TV.

  • how much do you think it would cost for FedEx to go to every home and business in america everyday, 6 days a week?

  • u should have dumped direct t.v!!! Just go with comcast!

  • You should dump TV and stick to books movies and the internet

  • i love you

  • Nice efficiency metaphor.

  • I had such similar experiences... wow...

  • communism > capitalism

  • In the words of Ray Zalinkski- "What the American Public doesn't know is what makes them the American public"

The majority of Americans- or at least voting Americans- elected Obama- who was very clear about getting health care reform done. He was also clear about not raising taxes on 95% of Americans. As long as he keeps the tax promise- Americans would welcome his health reform. The lies and scare tactics of the opposition have many people fighting something that doesn't exist.

  • Most intelligent statement to date.

  • bump

  • Yeah and don't forget that the republican leadership is all too happy to play with their fears for their benefit.

  • reminds me of a package i was getting. Indian lady on the phone gets my apartment number wrong. UPS delivers to the wrong address, package is refused, and they mail a letter to the wrong address though the post office. The post office recognizes the mistake and actually puts the letter in my mailbox. I call UPS tell them about the wrong address... they say they changed it... and the UPS guy tries delivering it to the wrong address again. I then had to go pick the damn thing up.

  • fire DTV.

  • Why don't you cancel Direct TV Cenk? I'd do it out of spite.

  • The post office is only as good as the people who work there. If you live in a redneck town like most republicans do then you probably have rednecks working there so of course it sucks.

  • Yeah good point. They're so stupid lol.

  • I feel for Cenk on this one. Especially with all the cable stuff. I've gone thru that.

  • The so called campaign contributions are simply bribes.....we want to know who received these bribes....how they were bought by the health care industry and then we want indictments for corruption......

  • That is a good analogy. The Post Office sucks with mail because they have no competition, but if you mail a package and a letter to the same place with standard service the package will beat the letter, because they have to COMPETE against a private company. The extremely efficient USPS Package service is a perfect example... great job Cenk

  • This sounds *so* fucking familiar. She is supposed to give you a warning 1st before they disconnect.

  • I support the public option because it is only an option but there are many government facilities that are so horrible in dealing with people.

  • I wouldn't doubt that type of bureaucracy at DirectTV cuz I experienced the same sort of thing with them. (And dishTV too) They wouldn't install over the 3rd floor and I had to run around to other local suppliers.

BUT the post office is 10 times worst. Cenk, you got very lucky. They normally have you waiting in line for hrs (there are 10 windows and only 2 snails operating) Sometimes for the simplest of things, like stamps. Even trying to get something done at the DMV or City hall is a hassle

  • Must be where you live. The Post Office where I live is like a 5 min. wait, and the DMV is moderate. It's not real bad, and it's not real amazing. I live in a pretty populated area too...

  • When I mail things through the post office I do not evan have to leave my house or office idk what kinda post office you are using.Especially now that the post office has flat rate packages .I can get what ever I need just point and click .Why are you in line for stamps ? You buy stamps from the machine or online ...You got me on the DMV though that place is some kinda hell.

  • The machine only takes Credit cards not cash. And sometimes I only have cash on me. Or if I have to send registered mail. Its truly ridiculous

  • Comcast does that all the time...and they can get away with it around our area cause there is no other company that we can choose cause they put in the cables around our city...so our only options are direct tv and dish it sucks big time

  • That's Capitalism for ya.

  • i love these personal stories

  • Lol.. I love Cenk, but this is the worst analogy to public option health care I have ever heard! Apples and Oranges much? Come on Cenk, you can do better than this!

  • My gf works for harris, they have fully socialised medicine

Harris hires its own drs, nurses, dentists, etc. They buy their own equipment and own their own hospitals.

Regular check ups and dr visits are all 100% free for employees, dentist visits are free. They pay a % of major surgery costs, and they reimburse you a % of your visit if you see an outside specialist.

xrays are free, MRis which cost reg people 2000.00 cost 100.00

How much does she pay for all this? 48.00 per month THATS IT

  • If we went to single payer or even better fully socialised medicine, it would be SIGNIFICANTLY cheaperfor tax payers than Harris.

Having the entire country as the buyers pool would give the government insane bargaining power against drug companies. So drugs would be insanely cheap.

also I have found the post office to be significantly more efficient in some cases than UPS and FedEx. Yes they may need to modernise their system a bit, but come on they are pretty fcking efficient

  • ask hannity& limbaugh, they'll tell you that! When it comes to handeling human life and the government can clearly do it better, then if by having no option but to drive its competitors to the ground and subsequently insuring millions of americans then i'd say GO FOR IT! Cuz one thing we know is that we can't count on cold blooded and money obsessed buffoons like you with peoples' lives.

  • Very good job. Rational and well spoken.

  • That was beautiful Cenk. Keep on fighting the good fight. I'm with ya buddy.

  • gotta love quality customer service of fortune 500 and 1000 companies

  • I'm just saying these are not good examples. I'm all for universal health care but these are not good for either side of the argument. Talk about public schooling, it wasn't always available. Same with firemen it wasn't always a universal service, aren't we happy they are now?

  • good story Cenk

TYT knows how to ethically mix entertainment value with substance

  • Private is efficient. For them. To make money. Obvious logic is obvious.

  • Fuck Time Warner Cable!!!

  • if you don't like your current cable provider, find a different one. whichever company is most effeciant will get the most customers. that is, of course, assuming that you don't have a legitimized monopoly forcing everyone, including those who don't use it's services, to fund it.

  • Excellent point.

  • The problem then becomes that the 'effeciant'' cable provider is only accesible to the extremely rich because it is so expensive, so now everyone else either has to deal with their current cable provider where nothing gets done...or in most cases they don't even have a television to watch in the first place.

  • Har har har i made a spelling error. efficient effective effeciant whatever don't care. if we didn't have a coercive monopoly creating barriers to entry, there would be several competing service providers.

  • But there are several service providers now aren't there? Who has the 'coercive monopoly'? Wouldn't a cheap public option allow for more companies to compete as prices come down. Those who can afford expensive private health insurance get to keep it, the middle class can pay less and the poorest at least have some kind of insurance to cover themselves. Generally government run services have EVERYONE pay to support them e.g police, fire services, public schools, the military

  • Why even have cable? Find a really good internet provider, connect your computer to your tv screen, and there you go. A few of my relatives do that and it saves them a ton.

  • talking to the cable company is actually a good example

i once stayed on hold for well over an hour waiting for someone to pickup at my cell service

  • interesting development.

i wonder if HTWW is going to abuse this one to make his "point".

till this day i still wonder why he feels threatened by TYT.

  • The Public Option is a good thing! I have a fantasy. This will never happen, but here goes:

If I had my way, I'd take every inbred, non-thinking empty-headed redneck jerk-off, every non-thinking negro, and every other dumbass, give them their own state.

Give them enough provisions and all the weapons they need, build a wall and separate them from us, and then let them kill each other!!

  • I think they call that state Texas

  • Hahaha....You're absolutely right Voice: Texas!! Lol Lol.

  • wow... I hate this crap. I would switch right away Comcast 5/5

  • there should be government option for direct tv - it hardly costs them anything to beam the signal, so if the government owned it we could all get it for the same cost to the provider. Only problem is if it were government owned the republicans would keep anything good from being shown on it.

  • Cenk should have rang that lady back and just talked in his Indian accent, so she wouldnt know it was the same guy who just cursed at her

  • I think a stamp is now 44 cents, not 43. Minor point.

  • I don't understand what you mean by front and back of the building either. The guy cut it... and then he hung it from the opposite side of the building?

  • shouldn't matter, a consumer shouldn't have too know how cable works, besides i can work out in a second that he need more length and may need to go though the walls and ceiling.

the serviceman should have just turned up with his tool van and checked it out, and got it done, that's what he's paid for dammit!

  • If 85% of the public -really- likes private insurance and only sick, poor, and unemployed people will be on the public option, why are conservatives saying that will kill private insurance? If their claims are factual, offloading such groups to public insurance will make private insurance cheaper by removing high risk groups.

The original claim was that most people will like public insurance more and private insurance will disappear. That doesn't fit with the 85% satisfied claim at all.

  • youtube is now manipulating the turks channel views so that they wont get too many honors

  • The claim forms that private industry use? Medicare forms. MEDICARE FORMS. Whether you are on Medicare or not, when your provider submits your claim, it is on a Medicare form. Because standardization lead to efficiency. WHAT? OH SNAP.

  • Even though I am in the so-called professional middle class, I feel that I am one bad accident from bankruptcy. One auto collision befalling my wife/kids, a tumor, or any freak accident...my finance will be down the toilet. We must use the same fear tactic that the GOP is using! PUBLIC OPTION or ONE ACCIDENT FROM BANKRUPTCY!!!

  • This country WILL NEVER EVER have public government run healthcare! Healthcare will always remain privatized no matter what! We need President Sarah Palin RIGHT NOW to ensure that it remains completely privatized and that there will be no reform whatsoever! If any lowly politician tries to reform it, Palin will UNLEASH the WRATH OF GOD HERSELF onto him and REVEAL his PUSSY for the WHOLE WORLD TO SEE and DESTROY his cred and career!

  • Dude, no one believes you.

  • police, schools, fire service, libraries are funded publicly. I don't understand why health care is the exception.

  • it's funny, they'll try to save your burning house for free, but you get smoke inhilation or burned and YOU GOTTA PAY.

as long as you're stuffs okay

  • because police and fire services are made to protect your property, schools are made to inform people what property is, and libraries are socialist dens of evil! 8D

  • Because its a gold mine for a few rich and influential people that don't want the gravy train to stop any time soon.

  • lol

  • Private industry = efficiency only if it saves them money

Gment run industry = efficiency dependant on staff

....i'll take my chances with gment

  • Better yet. I once needed to send a package UPS (it was too big for USPS delivery). I stood in the UPS office for > 30 minutes and NOT ONE person stopped to say 'Can I help you'. I started asking the workers how I could get this package submitted and they acted like I was panhandling on the street. Almost an hour later, some lady finally appears to process my order. Of course, I didn't have the correct form filled out so I had to start over.

  • Because this plan sucks this isn't "Healthcare" reform it's destruction of the Private Healthcare industry that 85% of us are satisfied (YES 85%) ALL too appieze the 15% that can either afford their own insurance or/qualify for medicaid but choose NOT TOO!

  • way to make up percentages.

  • The right doesn't shit on the post office because it's badly managed. It shits on it because the post office IS BROKE!!! THE POST OFFICE IS BORKE!!!

  • Their is a Public Option already it's called Medicare "clean it up from Corruption" "and take the Corporate Trial Lawyers from it" and you'll save 2 trillion a year!

Forcing those who can afford Private Insurance or those who's employers would dump them on the Public plan to save "overhead costs" ..and their is NO OFF the Publc Plan when on it in certain provisions would kill any private competition and eventually become and be run like the Veteran Administration for all citizens.

  • Funny nothing you seem to be saying is happening in any other country that has public healthcare. Canada, Australia, New Zealand, The UK and Germany. Nearly 70-80 years with a public system that ensures fairness, is cheaper and provides better outcomes. All you do is pay a little out of your taxes -COOL OR WHAT, Industry thrives, it is fiscally responsible and the system works. You conservative American you guys are so funny, always talking about saving money but rather expence over quality

  • Show me where in he bill it says it will eliminate private insurance entirely, and I will show you beachfront property on the moon. The truth is it will only force private insurance to be competitive with the public option, this seems to be working fine in MANY sectors. Like the shipping industry for instance.

You ignorant people really crack me up.

  • The first guy from the direct TV is the tech support for idiots guy who only knows how to properly set the box up and connect it to your TV, and put ur TV on TV/VIDEO.

Verizon did the same thing to me when I was trying to get DSL set up back in 2005. After a month of sending the wrong guy or not sending anyone at all, I had to threaten to sue corporate, and finally they sent the right guy.

  • Private bureaucracy sucks. Verizon, RCN, eBay, eBay, eBay, goddamfukking eBay, die, eBay, die, motherfukkers! Nuff said. Goverment sucks, too. Everything sucks.

  • every industry should be run by the government.

i have all my faith in bwarney fwank.

  • The best thing about public healthcare is everyone is treated-No one misses out. Rich, Poor or in between saving the country massive amounts in money etc

And paying a small fee out of your taxes is heaps cool and way cheaper than a private system

Americans who don't believe in public healthcare are ( i am afraid to say it idiots)

I mean every single western democracy has it from Canada to Australia, Germany, New Zealand the UK

    because it works

  • Would be interesting to privatize the US military and charge people based on their level of risk. What could go wrong? (sarcasm)

Dick Cheney and friends would go broke. "Sorry Mr. Cheney. We're denying you coverage based on your risk. Hope you have life insurance."

Later on, the life insurance people get wind of what happened and drop him too. Then the privatized fire dept. Then the pvt police. Then pvt mail delivery. Then the pvt utilities. Etc...

"Go check his meter!" "No! You!"

  • Yeah, if neoconservative anarchism had its way, then privatized fire dept would be sending out bills to the people whose house caught on fire and they would have to get some kind of fire hazard insurance plan that would cover let's say up to 2000 gallons of water per each extinguished fire and they would have to pay the rest including $500 deductible towards firefighters wages or some non-sense like this.

  • Private Police Dept would bill you big time if they had to use their SWAT team to rescue your child from kidnappers, then again private safety insurance would take care of it if you were able to afford buy one or at least high deductible 80/20 co pay option

  • I have sent many a package via US Mail and am consistently impressed with the delivery times and handling of packages. The price difference between it and UPS & Fedex is rather large. Like $1.50 -vs- $10+ per small pkg. That adds up on multiple shipments.

How would the service be with UPS and Fedex if they cut prices by about 90% to match the prices of the US Mail? They already kick the crap out of most boxes. :^)

  • The problem with this efficiency idea is the private sector IS more efficient, but at making money. They're also very efficient at cutting costs. And guess what? Paying your insurance happens to be a major cost. A TV company doesnt give anything about helping you. They want to real you in, collect your money and keep up a costumer friendly appearance with the least possible effort. If they even try.

  • Yea the Gov is so inefficient my friend and I just send a book to Singapore from Texas UPS: 100 bucks, Fedex: 80, United State Postal Service : 40 bucks............ The military is so inefficient , national guard, The border patrol , Fema (somewhat true Lol), congress (oh wait that one is true)

  • Our government run tv service is antennas....

  • dam you cenk for not doing a show on labor day

  • the only government run operation i hate is the BMV.... god i hate those assholes.

  • what is BMV?

  • The BMV in Ohio is alrite. They have fancy video consoles to take your tests on and they let you register for appointments and such online. When I got my temps they gave me a nice envelope with all the stuff that I would need to get my license. IDK why I'm advertising for the BMV but w/e I'm tired.

  • Considering what cert has said-I come from Australia and we have public healthcare.

Now what forms do I need to fill out when I see my doctor-None

When i see the doctor does it cost me anything-No ( I already paid out of my taxes-cool or what)

Can I still get private health care if I wish-yep (like if i want to use a prvate hospital etc)

Am I forced to see a doctor I dont like-NO

Is my nations overall health cost reduced You Bet your ass it is

It is our best freedom ever

  • I never had a problem with the post office, in fact I find them far superior to UPS or Fed Ex because of the number of locations and mail boxes. They have a huge task, and they do it well. Stupid republicans that criticize the post office and praise UPS/FedEx forget the post office has the added task of delivering millions of pieces of mail to theirs and everyone elses houses 6 days a week. The post office is well worth tax money.

  • The best thing about the Postal Service is that it doesn't cost tax money.

The Postal Service must be self sufficient and cannot take public funds - exactly like the Public Health Insurance option.

  • yep and its broke :)

  • How do you know it was your neighbour? We demand to know more about this story!!!

  • Cenk. you are so totally ON, dude! Hang in!

  • Cenk. Did you cancel your DirectTV after that shitty experience? I would've dropped kicked their ass.
