I just used the Process west sti splitter with my PW intercooler top mount.. I drove the car in the city and highway for about 80 miles got out and it was cool to the touch even without a turbo heat shield.
I think the scoop works very well without vents but this does look pretty cool. I would worry about possible lift and structural loss of the hood scoop
"defeating the purpose of the hood scoop"? Maybe, but it's designed to cool the intercooler...which is in the front now. This retains the awesome look of the Subarus with scoops yet functions as an extractor hood scoop but looks way better than an aftermarket extractor
im def not a hater i love subarus but they could be just blowing around from the air flow out side the scoop or some of the air could byepass the cooler all together and u would get as much going into it. but it looks sick and if u think it works then more power to ya. nice job
I would worry about pulling air off the intercooler and turbo. Yes, you are pulling hot air away from the motor, but your pulling that hot air across the intercooler.
Not a hater just pointing out a couple of things...the air that is exhausted from the engine compartment MAY have fumes from a leak or blowby or a bad egr valve etc and having it come out where it is it would go into the fresh air inlet for the HVAC system under the windsheild. Not good for passengers.
Normally the air going through the rad flows around the engine and down the firewall, which adds some air flow to cool the engine comp. a bit...your scoop vent exits too soon to add much cooling.
? iv seen it all ? the string would have moved without the vents just so you know, and last time i checked the scoop is designed to do just what you thought you were converting it to do, cool the TMIC and cool the engine bay i know you have a FMIC but you just made a mess of the scoop, thats all you did. looks good but you defeated the scoops purpose. why would you worry about engine bay heat your car obviously isnt modified enough to worry about it at this time. just confused that's all.
@Bubbly05subie You're wrong. :) The car ran 10.8 @ 128 within two weeks of this video. I'd say that's PLENTY of power.
Secondly, the scoop was NEVER designed to 'cool the engine'. It's designed to cool the TMIC, which is now gone. There a number of professional Rallye race car teams who also have done a reverse hood scoop to accomplish the same venting.
Well just for the record one your a idiot.... an two no i doubt there is a professional rally team that did this they have the money and resources to just buy the real deal.... and three 10.8 in 1/4 mile good for you now whats your auto cross time???? fuck drag racing, i can go straight fast YAAAAAAAAAA
You always squeezed the esoteric end of tech..but , I dont thing that cooling an engine is something that should evade smart performance enthusiasts. ..maybe one of he top concerns. buit then, not many are as smart as you.
does that really help?
