  • its actually the bottom for strings

  • what do you think about tennessee baritone uke model kilauea?

  • Learn to pronounce "ukulele" correctly!

  • If you fancy trying soprano tuning you can get strings from Aquila that let you tune Baritone to GCEA. Or just put a capo on 5th fret of your baritone, if you fancy learning more uke chords.

  • ssshit why don't I give it a sssshot. lol cute

  • I'm getting my Baritone uke tomorrow for my birthday and i'm SO SIKED! :D

  • I have an Ohana baritone ukulele, and I'm quite happy with it.......

  • I have also Lanikai baritone (among a lot of other ukes) and it´s very good uke (and surprisingly cheap for this quality). I like it better with re-entrant tuning. (the D sting is tuned octave higher. Just change it to nylon D string. This way it sound more like classic ukulele and much better.

  • Thanks! I just got my baritone today, and you've taught me how to tune it!

  • Got fed up with your babbling chatter, really wanted to know more but got fed up listening to you talking :(

  • Thanks! You helped me make up my mind!

  • My ukulele is small one but it sound's like a batione when i tune it online.

  • Can you tell me why the G and D strings are wrapped?

  • ToysRgood. Nice living space, your home. I'm in, bro. Go Ya

  • you talk too much man, your ruining my high

  • Thanks bro. Really helped alot

  • ah luv mah new toy...

  • great info steven!!

I was thinking about getting a baritone ukulele and I was just wondering why we couldn't just tune it to the standard GCEA, since I've just learned to play a concert size I was figuring the transition might be simpler that way. What would you advise?

  • To much bla bla bla bla

  • I tune mine to DADG for metal!!

  • It's nice to see some love for the barritone uke. It's the black sheep of the uke family.

  • P.S. Standard guitar tuning is EADG... Can you tune the barritone the same? Or is it better in an open tuning?

  • Thanks for this man.. I get that people thinking it's a toy.. I guess I'm a 33 year old man that likes to play with toys lol.. I went from guitar to tenor, thinking might get a baritone, especially coming from guitar. So sweet sounding..

  • it is a beautiful instrument i have played for 3 years now and love it getting ether a electric one or a baritone

  • i just got one today. i didn't know it was Baritone Ukulele at the time, I only new i wanted it. by the way, nice intro.

  • i tune mine DGCF. all forths like the bottom 4 strings of a guitar to make the chords more similar rather than learning them all over again. just a few slight modifications for fingering but otherwise good. i like to be myself. i am a beautiful snowflake.

  • it's a great way to learn your jazz chords as well! 8)

  • i guess i'm getting one today ;)

    great video

  • can you still tune it to GCEA?

  • no,you will rip the face/bridge off...BUT, you can buy tenor strings and restring it to make it GCEA

  • Where can I learn baritone ukulele?

  • from ukeuncle

  • nice i was just given a CF martin 1960 baritone ukulele in mint condition

  • I recorded a few albums with it while I was in NZ!

  • I've been looking to buy a baritone ukelele and came across good reviews for the 'Lanikai LU-21B'. The model you demo sounds really good and looks to be pretty well the same model. Would you recommend it for playability and sound?

  • I traveled all over NZ with it (as featured here). It's so easy to pick up and play even easier than a soprano uke in my opinion.

  • @stevenmorrisEP Yeah, it's pretty awesome.

  • Sorry for the douche comment.... I don't remember why I said that

  • Comment removed

  • Hey, maybe you addressed it and I missed st, but why is the lowest string guage thinner than the second lowest string?

  • because it's an ukulele!

  • I don't remember, but it was a good deal. About a hundred?

  • Comment removed

  • hey buddy, you don't need to be a jerk. I made this video on a whim and am happy it is being seen so many. I love playing all kinds of ukes and it is silly to say that any kind of instrument could be unimportant.

  • You obviously haven't seen or heard the Ukelele Orchestra of Great Britain! For anyone who agrees with gotrice415510, look on Youtube for 'Ukulele Orchestra - Smells Like Teen Spirit'. Over half a million views and over 4 star rating! As Steven points out, the baritone ukelele is a perfect bridge for guitarists because of the DGBE tuning. And any guitarist who capo's beyond the 7th fret will be sounding like a uke anyway.

  • you look like emile hirsch with a beard

  • also thank you for selling me on this instrument. think i'll go buy one.

and thanks for turning me on to jacob borshard. great stuff.

  • your very welcome. =)

I myself haven't played it much since I've returned to the states, but that was because I was neglecting my soprano!

  • haha oh thanks for the compliment. While studying abroad I decided not to shave and am happy that experiment is long over and done with.

  • my kamaka soprano has friction tuners r you calling that a cheap fake?

  • I just picked up a baritone Lanikai LU-21BE (acoustic/electric) for about 175$ today at my local music store. It's A LOT better than my old 60$ Hilo baritone I got 5 months ago.

  • i have a hilo baritone. picked it up at a yard sale for 5 bucks. good for a beginner?

  • Uke Hunt... Lmao...

  • Thank you. I've been trying to figure out for the longest time what type of Ukulele I have, and this video helped me figure that out. Baritone Ukes = the best.

  • i hate the baritone one. cause its like really low noise.i prefear the tenor one cause it has a more happy sound.

  • Just bought a Baritone Uke myself as someone else mentioned it's new and needing consistent tuning..bought it as I can use it as a travel alternative to the Banjo which I chicago tuned

  • I found this video searching for baritone ukuleles, and it turns out you have releases on cllct! me too! I'm hoping to get me one of those beauts.

  • nice introduction...

    now play the darn tune.

  • I loved my old lanikai. Now i have a Martin :3

  • you look like paul mcCartney

  • Hi dude, just bought a Baritone Uke today, can't play a note on it yet, but I'm absolutley loving it! - hopefully soon I'll be able to it a little :o)

  • my video response might not have existed if it weren't for your video lolol

  • I just bought a Lanikai baritone uke and it hardly stays in tune for a minute or so! And ideas?

  • are the tuners really loose? that might be the problem other than usually new instruments tend to detune easily, give it a few days and it should be fine.

  • Actually, I think there were a few problems. First, the tuners weren't loose but I tightened them a little to err on the safe side. Second, I replaced the factory strings (which were supposed to be better.) And finally, I filed very subtle grooves into the bridge to keep the strings from sliding up and down.

  • i just got mine!!!! its so weird singing with it though, haha :D

  • I want a bari so badly. Soooooo badly. Where did you get yours?

  • a nice little music shop in santa barbara. You can order them off of musician's friend too.

  • Try Banjo ukulele.

  • Thanks for the Baritone Break-down! It sold me on the Uke! I responded with my Hip-Hop Human-Beatbox Original song! Thank you the info!

  • Just bought one. I put mandola strings on it, to try.Good fun.

  • i watched this in hopes of finding out how a baritone uke sounds in action but i watched the whole way through anyway. really super informative. keep it up

  • Yo man this is awesome! def. put more of these out! Also i wanted to ask so the tuning for Baritone is DGBD right? cuz i bought a baritone in mistake of a saprano lol so when i went to tune it i broke a string so im just making sure of the ACTUAL tuning

  • No, it's D, G, B, E...same as top 4 strings on a guitar!

  • Cool video, but I have a definite issue with the comment about "toy" ukuleles. Nearly all top ukulele manufacturers use friction peg tuners, which are not like the sealed guitar tuners that came on your Lanikai. The most obvious that comes to mind is Martin. They sell models for well over $1000 that use friction pegs. Not a toy in the least. Sure there is a drop off in tuning stability but there's a definite vintage vibe with them and arguably a better sound due to less dampening of sound.

  • Well said! I had the same problem with the comment... My '64 Martin baritone has friction tuners.

  • Thanks for the info. You've inspired me to trade in my Martin Backpacker for a Kana Baritone. Ships today... I HOPE.

  • isn't the most common tuning open g... DGBD?

  • yeah! isn't that what I said?

  • dude... thanks i kinda jumped into the baritone as a first instrument. my little girl got a saprano for her Bday. it came with a DVD but that only eexplains her uke, not mine. I was wondering what to tune it to. your vid helped me tons. thanks again and please keep it up.

  • EADG is the tuning

  • its actuall DGBE, but yeah..

  • ohh man! i was thinking about my bass. Blah! my bad

  • Hey, who cares. I tune mine like a bass guitar (EADG) and plenty of people use conventional uke tuning (GCEA) too. Hooray for freedom.

  • Thanks man,I really needed the advice.I'm in search of the perfect traveling and busking instrument and the uke might just be it.

  • hey! i have the same ukulele as you, and it's my first instrument ever. did you change the strings when you first got it? i'm pretty sure mine is properly tuned, but it doesn't sound nearly as nice as yours, so i'm thinking it might be the strings. any suggestions?

  • Hey, actually the g string broke! so I got em replaced with martin strings I believe.

  • martin nylons is what i use. from what i'm told the strings stretch alot at first so you have to keep tuning it alot in the beginning. once they stop stretching is when you get a true tune. The quality of the uke is the same as a guitar. the better the quality the better the sound.
