If you fancy trying soprano tuning you can get strings from Aquila that let you tune Baritone to GCEA. Or just put a capo on 5th fret of your baritone, if you fancy learning more uke chords.
I have also Lanikai baritone (among a lot of other ukes) and it´s very good uke (and surprisingly cheap for this quality). I like it better with re-entrant tuning. (the D sting is tuned octave higher. Just change it to nylon D string. This way it sound more like classic ukulele and much better.
I was thinking about getting a baritone ukulele and I was just wondering why we couldn't just tune it to the standard GCEA, since I've just learned to play a concert size I was figuring the transition might be simpler that way. What would you advise?
Thanks for this man.. I get that people thinking it's a toy.. I guess I'm a 33 year old man that likes to play with toys lol.. I went from guitar to tenor, thinking might get a baritone, especially coming from guitar. So sweet sounding..
i tune mine DGCF. all forths like the bottom 4 strings of a guitar to make the chords more similar rather than learning them all over again. just a few slight modifications for fingering but otherwise good. i like to be myself. i am a beautiful snowflake.
I've been looking to buy a baritone ukelele and came across good reviews for the 'Lanikai LU-21B'. The model you demo sounds really good and looks to be pretty well the same model. Would you recommend it for playability and sound?
hey buddy, you don't need to be a jerk. I made this video on a whim and am happy it is being seen so many. I love playing all kinds of ukes and it is silly to say that any kind of instrument could be unimportant.
You obviously haven't seen or heard the Ukelele Orchestra of Great Britain! For anyone who agrees with gotrice415510, look on Youtube for 'Ukulele Orchestra - Smells Like Teen Spirit'. Over half a million views and over 4 star rating! As Steven points out, the baritone ukelele is a perfect bridge for guitarists because of the DGBE tuning. And any guitarist who capo's beyond the 7th fret will be sounding like a uke anyway.
I just picked up a baritone Lanikai LU-21BE (acoustic/electric) for about 175$ today at my local music store. It's A LOT better than my old 60$ Hilo baritone I got 5 months ago.
Thank you. I've been trying to figure out for the longest time what type of Ukulele I have, and this video helped me figure that out. Baritone Ukes = the best.
Just bought a Baritone Uke myself as someone else mentioned it's new and needing consistent tuning..bought it as I can use it as a travel alternative to the Banjo which I chicago tuned
Hi dude, just bought a Baritone Uke today, can't play a note on it yet, but I'm absolutley loving it! - hopefully soon I'll be able to it a little :o)
are the tuners really loose? that might be the problem other than usually new instruments tend to detune easily, give it a few days and it should be fine.
Actually, I think there were a few problems. First, the tuners weren't loose but I tightened them a little to err on the safe side. Second, I replaced the factory strings (which were supposed to be better.) And finally, I filed very subtle grooves into the bridge to keep the strings from sliding up and down.
i watched this in hopes of finding out how a baritone uke sounds in action but i watched the whole way through anyway. really super informative. keep it up
Yo man this is awesome! def. put more of these out! Also i wanted to ask so the tuning for Baritone is DGBD right? cuz i bought a baritone in mistake of a saprano lol so when i went to tune it i broke a string so im just making sure of the ACTUAL tuning
Cool video, but I have a definite issue with the comment about "toy" ukuleles. Nearly all top ukulele manufacturers use friction peg tuners, which are not like the sealed guitar tuners that came on your Lanikai. The most obvious that comes to mind is Martin. They sell models for well over $1000 that use friction pegs. Not a toy in the least. Sure there is a drop off in tuning stability but there's a definite vintage vibe with them and arguably a better sound due to less dampening of sound.
dude... thanks i kinda jumped into the baritone as a first instrument. my little girl got a saprano for her Bday. it came with a DVD but that only eexplains her uke, not mine. I was wondering what to tune it to. your vid helped me tons. thanks again and please keep it up.
hey! i have the same ukulele as you, and it's my first instrument ever. did you change the strings when you first got it? i'm pretty sure mine is properly tuned, but it doesn't sound nearly as nice as yours, so i'm thinking it might be the strings. any suggestions?
martin nylons is what i use. from what i'm told the strings stretch alot at first so you have to keep tuning it alot in the beginning. once they stop stretching is when you get a true tune. The quality of the uke is the same as a guitar. the better the quality the better the sound.
its actually the bottom for strings

P.S. Standard guitar tuning is EADG... Can you tune the barritone the same? Or is it better in an open tuning?
