I really wish people would stop comparing Mariah's version with this one. Mimi's not Whitney and Whitney isn't Mimi. They're both completely different artists and their versions of this song both have their own merits and drawbacks. Their voices aren't even all that similar! Whitney Houston incorporates most of the original lyrics which suggest that she truly values the gift of the savior. On the other hand, Mariah Carey has an endless loop of the first stanza which suggests that she wants to glorify her singing ability. Comparing the two songs is like comparing apples and oranges. Whitney's is more religious, while Mariah's is more secular.
