Excellent technique, but the trombones and euphoniums could have had a MUCH bigger role, particularly in Shenandoah. all comes down to directors preference, though
im in the varsity band at my high school and we just played this for contest ive gotta say we sounded better than this lol not that this is bad im just sayin trumpets beast
Haha, Well I am a percusionist at Ransom Middle School and I play bass on this song. It's not as easy as it looks! The trumpet soloist on this song has the part perfectly but gets nervous. Wish us luck for the District Mpa's
@LordSariel42 i played the euphonium part of this song when i was in middle school. it took me like a month to get used to the song, especially that high F in the solo.
hey!! i have to play this for UYL too!!! im a seventh grader at clint small middle school. we have ur UYL tomorrow it sucks:P haha ya we play this song and the footlifter, and butterfly's ball a love my band!!!
Our middle school plays this song! I am in 7th grade and i play the oboe. I don't have the solo because there is this like oboe prodigy in my grade and so he is always gets first chair. but i am 2nd chair pretty much 100% of the time so i am good with it.
i play trumpet and we r playin this now for festival i play for RMS i played for LMS........but im gettin better :) its beautiful i love russian christmas.....lol
is it just me or is the tempo faster than the original by quite a bit?if conducted to original tempo the song should last something closer to 7 minutes.
Just got done playing this at district OMEA conference. Got straight 1's on stage, and a 2 in sight reading for some minor things. We're going to state though :]
I play trumpet in concert band and we played this last year at festival (or LGPE, if you'd rather call it that). you guys sound great! kudos to the trumpet player with the Shenandoah solo!
We tried playing this song last year in symphonic band("too difficult"). We have this again this year. It is actually pretty easy. I always thought it was.
also, during the shenandoah part, id suggest not slowing down quite so much. while this is a slow and tender section, too slow makes it almost painful =) and seeing as many different things are happening all at once during many parts of this song, listening across the ensemble is critical - otherwise, timing is off and clarity becomes muddled =3
right before the transitions to the slow section - btw, nice fh note <3 - i think its measure 68, the melody is not supposed to be the trombone section. the melody is actually found in the tuba/bass line, as the part that the trombones play there was already played at 56, just a strain earlier, by the french horns. and by the woodwinds 2 or 3 strains earlier. the 'bones overpowered the tubas too much. other than that, it was awesome =)
It's measure 64 and it's Low Reeds and Tuba(Base). Don't forget that at 56 Tenor Sax has melody with French Horns. The Tenor player should have played out a little more because at 76 we have melody with French Horns(It's a tad different) and it was really hard to hear the Tenor. Although the French Horns played wonderfully. I like this piece and ya'll played it very well.
i do remember the saxes playing with us at 56, now that you said so.
however, this was completely not me - im not out of high school band yet xD our band director decided to play this for festival competition, so i looked it up to listen to it (esp on those days when it got stuck in my head after school =P). and decided to try critiquing it, just for practice, based on how my director told *us* to play it.
tenor sax is my 3rd favorite instrument, after trumpet and horn <3 im not that good tho =)
We're playing this is Band class. Nowhere near this good.
