  • How do u get the retin a is it prescription only

  • @MsBowers35 Yes RetinA is prescription only ;-)

  • Thank you soooo much for this video..I just started to use RetinA a week ago..just wonder what product with Vitamin C do you use?

  • @MsMatilda4 I'm glad you found it helpful! The ONLY Vit C product I use (for the last 6 or 7 yrs) is Skinceuticals CE Ferulic....there's a video on the channel. It's called "My Miracle Product ;-)

  • Could you do a skincare routine video? I know you talk about it a lot, but I don't believe I've see a full routine. Right now I'm mainly interested in what vitamin c you use, I've been trying a couple different one, I have hyper pigmentation issues and would love to hear your articulate thoughts. Thanks!

  • @smilesunshine888 There's an entire video on hyperpigmentation on the channel ;-D

  • @smilesunshine888 You should use Skinceuticals Phloretin CF. It does the same thing as the CE Ferulic she uses, but it is more geared toward problematic skin and hyper pigmentation. Its awesome!

  • Koko, what sunscreen are you currently using? Thanks xoxo Rita

  • @sofiascloset Hey Rita! I've used Skinceuticals Ultimate Defense SPF for 5 or 6 yrs ;-D

  • @kokolaroo

    ULTIMATE UV DEFENSE SPF 30

    Is it this one

  • @NurseLovesMakeup4 That's the one.....fyi it's VERY rich and moisturizing which is why I love it but it's probably a bit much for most people, but I prefer using very heavy creams and oils ;-)

  • @kokolaroo Thank you so much. I am 26 and don't think I need RetinA just yet, but I need to start using really good sunscreen for protection. Love all your videos.

  • @NurseLovesMakeup4 Yes you can definitely hold off on using RetinA but SPF EVERY DAY rain or shine would be the best thing you can do for your skin! ;-)))

  • @kokolaroo Thank you :)))))))

  • Ciao Kokolaroo, I have made a comment here before about using the same Retin A creme as you... only my Derm Dr told me that I could add some face creme under my Retin A if I found my skin was too dry, I went to see my Dr the other day and got a new perscription for Retin A because mine ran out and she gave me a new Retin A called "Retis L-A" which contains SPF 15, she says that it is also very good, and the sunscreen is very good as well. We will see!! Hope this is helpful to some. -Shelley xXx

  • @SamsHabeby Thanks so much for all the info Shelley!! Hopefully the new RetinA works for you although I don't know why it would contain SPF as RetinA should only be used at night....but of course I'm no derm so I would definitely take her advice over mine....lol! ;-D

  • koko, do you know the difference between CE Ferulic serum and PHLORETIN CF serum in term of effectiveness? other than one is for dry skin and one is for combo/oily skin? When you apply your CE Ferulic serum, do you apply it with a dry face after cleansing? or do you use toner first? after you apply it, how long do you have to wait before you apply other serums?

  • @tooswt4love It took Skinceuticals 5 yrs to come up with Phloretin...I believe it's their latest super antioxidant discovery. Of course you can check out their website as it would have a lot more info than I could give ;-) If you use toner then you can use it after but if not then before moistuizer. I don't apply other serums but most things go on before your moisturizer ;-)

  • @kokolaroo do you use the argan oil at the same time as your Skinceuticals?

  • @tooswt4love Yes.....think of Argan as a moisturizer ;-)

  • i have used retin all through my 20s for acne, and now into my 30s for antiaging was a natural transition. It also took about 6 months for my skin to get used to it. This and sunscreen have given me great skin and it is all I use.

  • @annabanana171 Thanks so much for sharing! ;-D

  • I will be moving from retinol to retin a in about a week and was wondering how best to acclimate my skin. This video was just what I needed to hear/see. I think I will try using it as a treatment, 15 min. on then wash off, to begin. My skin is not overly sensitive but I do approach any new product with caution. Retinol worked very well for me through my 30's but I have noticed my skin becoming a bit lax since entering my 40's. Thank you for your story.

  • @DelovelyDelightful I'm so glad the video was helpful in some way! Good luck with the switch ;-))

  • what cleanser did you use on your face while your on retin-a? can you recommend any great cleansers, department store and drugstores? :) great review btw, very informative.

  • @theBDMentertainment I use the same cleansers that I've used for over 20 yrs. Shiseido's foaming cleansers ;-)

  • Thank you so much for sharing your experience with Retin-A with us. It was really helpful and informative!

  • @00daisukidesu00 Thanks so much for watching this ridiculously long video...lol ;-))

  • Oh wow, that's amazing.I guess I was misinformed...I thought that using retin a will make my skin more thin and perhaps saggy because I believed that it would "over-exfoliate" it (and therefore make it more thin, less elastic, and just older)...So glad I watched this video:) The skin pinch is amazing :) Thanks

  • @JuicyJuice1313 I'm so glad the video helped! ;-)))

  • I highly recommend 'dermtv' here on youtube. It's a channel created by a dermatologist and he explains very much in detail about retinol and retinA in a few of his videos. He also provides lots of other beneficial information regading skincare etc through his other videos.

  • @tribelle I unsubscribed to him ages ago but I'm if he works for you...great! ;-)

  • I'm wondering if its worth using retinol because my skin gets congested very badly in the past few years - my long work hours contributes to it but I read that its suppose to help the skin turnover faster hence pushing out all the deadskin which leads to clogged pores (black heads)

  • @jeanchristie I don't know what works for your skin but it would perhaps help to exfoliate on a daily basis (something gentle of course) to help with your clogged pores ;-)

  • @kokolaroo oh, I already do but it still gets clogged very easily so was wondering if this would work thats all heh, thanks koko ;)

  • *favores* :-))

    TY!

  • @mqs7524 ;-D

  • Thanks Koko, good overview, I use the .0050% every 3 days & Burt's Bees repair serum twice weekly and my SkinC on the off days , I'm 62 people think I'm 42, so it works!

    Genetics helps as well!

Skin care is worth the commitment ! There is a reward, healthy soft elastic skin!

  • @Beecozz7 Yes genetics is a HUGE part of it but good skin care, especially SPF is a must! ;-D

  • @oldschoolunrated Yes RetinA has always been the go to for chronic acne...I'm so glad it really worked for you!! ;-D

  • You are so right Koko! I don't have wrinkles yet and my mom is 50 now and has zero deep wrinkles and only a couple faint ones. However, she has always told me "we don't wrinkle, nothing happens till we're 40, and then our face falls". Wahhh! I see that in her and I know that will be what happens to me too...overnight like you say. <3

  • @blushingpixie Oh gurl you are too funny! Yes we definitely have different issues being asian but the "overnight" thing is more like in your 60's maybe even 70's if you use RetinA. I'm gonna PM you a hilarious link! Believe me you are still going to be GORGEOUS in your 40's and 50's. Muwah! xoxo

  • Very important to mention is that you shouldn't use retin-A during pregnancy, or if you are trying to get pregnant. Retin-A is a known teratogen that can disturb the development of an embryo or fetus. Even if you only use it topically, still low amounts of tretinoin pass through the skin into the mother’s bloodstream.

  • @ayax5356 Thank-you so much for posting!! ;-)))

  • why don't you use Retin-A Micro? It's much better for sensitive skin types because it's tretinoin in slow release form. I'm in Canada too and I use that. It's $20 for 20g tube. I also think you're applying too much retin-a. I use half of what you use.

  • @IlIlIIIlIllIl My skin has acclimated to it now so there's no need to switch ;-))

  • I'm 19 and I've been using retinol since last summer for acne. I didn't have much trouble getting used to it, but I've noticed that with the season change (summer-->winter) my skin has gone from being super oily to super dry. I've never had dry skin before so I didn't know what was causing it. You're video was super helpful and now I'm going to go rewatch your argon oil video and probably go place an order for one. =)

  • @msong92 The retinol is probably what's making it so dry. Argan was a real life saver for me ;-))

  • You know a Youtuber is good when you "like" their video before it even starts :)

  • @Sharon27ify aww you're very sweet! Thank-you ;-))

  • I like your eye makeup in this video. May I ask what eyeliner you used? Enjoyed the video - I think I'll give my retinol another go when winter passes, though. I can't stand all this flakiness. I miss being able to wear makeup!

  • @VivaLaPoetess hmm this video was shot a month ago but I pretty much use the GArmani liners everyday ;-))

  • Hey Guys, I've never used Retin A before. Everyone is raving about it, why is it only available through prescription?

  • @angelstern It will literally eat your skin off, so that is most likely why it is available by prescription, being that its not really considered a cosmetic item due to its intensity. In Canada many of the strong skin treatments are only available by prescription, some exclusively through a dermatologist, so that your reaction to such products may be closely monitored.

  • @Wittyusernamegirl Thanks so much for replying ;-))

  • Your skin is also so amazing compared to mine even though I am probably less than half your age! The results of daily skin routines and your researching! As much as I do like my skin, I think prevention is key but obviously nothing complicated, probably something simple is good. I really like your idea of the minimalist approach to skincare.

  • @raininghard Yes prevention is definitely a good thing but you also have to remember that genetics plays a HUGE part of it. No amount of "products" or procedures works as well as nature ;-))

  • Whao! I am 25 and I already have hyperpigmentation all on my cheeks and nose area due to never applying sunscreen all my life. Now I am looking into investing into wearing sunscreen daily to try and prevent more. I regret it so much... I rarely went into the sun but being Asian in Canada, with the harsh winters and really light skin, the sun really damaged it. This video was extremely informative and I've always wondered what it is. Thank you!!

  • @raininghard Gurl I hear ya! I SOooo regret baking in the sun without properly applying and reapplying sunscreen and don't even get me started on the 5 yrs of tanning booths! But at least you can start making better choices now ;-))

  • Thank you so much for making this video. I had so many questions about what Retin-A would do to my skin. I have seen a dermatologist, but it helps so much to hear from others who have used it and ways to keep up with it. It also helps to get a more realistic idea of what it will do. Living in So. California we get so much hype from all the celebrity doctors and reality show stars! I prefer to listen to real people who actually have used it and experienced the side effects.

  • @Nancylovesbeauty Yes I always find it helps to hear other people's experience but I always think you should start out talking to a professional first and then get feedback from others ;-)))

  • Hi Koko!

    That was verry helpful!

I am at the moment on a hudge Skinceutical kick. After I bought some stuff and getting a lot of samples I saw a bit of an diffrence in my skin. This week I get my first skinceuticals facial.

    I would expect basic findings...

  • @susu191068 I don't know if you've tried it or not yet but the CE Ferulic is my holy of HG!! Hope you have a fantastic facial!! ;-D

  • Lmbo!!!! I lost it when you snapped your fingers and said "We Asians our skin turns to hell overnight " Lol. Very informative video!

  • @xMissBorIx It's so true though.....sigh......lol ;-)

  • Thank you so much for this analysis. So helpful and I just have to get back on the bandwagon and try it again. Winter and flakiness is the last thing .... Totally loving Pukka's organic Nourishing Face Oil (Evening Primrose Seed Oil, Hemp Oil, Almond Oil, Jojoba Oil, Avocado Oil, Wheatgerm Oil, Pomegranate Oil, Sea Buckthorn Oil, Rose Otto Flower Oil and a lot more). Such a winter rescue.

  • @ddrrssdd Thanks so much for sharing!! ;-D

  • I'm so glad you posted this video. I bought some Retinol products, a three step process..the cream to take makeup off, the serum, & night cream. I was hesitant to use it because, I had tried Retinol years ago and my skin freaked out. I read that Retinol was the only thing that can stimulate new cell growth, so I thought I would give it another try. I used it for a few days...no changes, then one morning this week I had a flakey patch on my eyelid. I stopped using it...now, I know to give i

  • @BeautyforEveryday Yes unfortunately there is a process to go through before you start to see result....but it IS worth it ;-))

  • i use retin a for my acne and i love it my skin could handle it so within 5 months i saw a huge difference. I still had flaking redness and my face looked gross two weeks in. My derm told me to help with that get whole milk put it in a bowl dip a towel in it and place it on your face from 15 min to 30 whatever you want. It brought my skin back to normal definately recommend. It sounds gross i know but man it made a difference!!

  • @makupluve Thanks so much for sharing!! I'm sure it will help a lot of people who are going through what you went through ;-)))

  • Great video! I didn't realize that there was a difference between retina and retinol! Thanks for saying that I needn't start using these products now in my 20's. While I do take better care of my skin than the average 23 y/o, I have yet to really begin anti-aging regimens. I will definitely be passing this video onto my mom though! She's approaching 60 and is getting self-conscious of her aging, but doesn't know where to begin! Thanks again for being a great YT presence :)

  • @minidelinquent Omgosh I'm so glad that you're not playing around with anti-aging products at 23 ;-)) But sunscreen is definitely a must! Thanks so much for taking the time to watch!! ;-D

  • You are so good to reply. Thanks :)

  • @Angelmagik2 It sometimes takes me a few days, but you happened to get me when I was catching up on replies ;-))

  • Hi! Another great video. I'm Korean and will turn 41 this week. People say I look many years younger. I think it has a lot to do with good genes, daily SPF, and r/a. You and I could be skin twins. I also have very dry skin which is highly reactive, and ultra-sensitive. There have been endless products I have tried throughout the years which caused bad reactions. I've finally found a good basic regimen which I no longer deviate from. Your advice has been very helpful. Thank you!

  • @samjaely Yes I definitely think genetics plays a huge part....so I can't take any credit there. I will take responsibility for all the damage I've put my skin through though ;-((....I sometimes wonder what my skin would be like if I hadn't smoked for 22 yrs! Luckily I've been cigarette free for over 6...whoohoo!

  • @kokolaroo Good for you for kicking the habit!!! You're skin would probably look a lot like mine because I never smoked and I stayed out of the sun. Sorry, I hope that doesn't sound rude in any way. I'm not trying to be. Just that we are similar age, same ethnicity, and similar skin type. So I would think we would age similarly. :-)

  • @samjaely No, I don't take it as rude ;-))...we've "talked" for long enough that I get what you mean. Unfortunately you don't do videos so I don't know what your skin looks like...which may be a good thing...lol! I always try to tell people that lighting makes all the difference in the world and it's not a true representation of my skin. My 2 or 3 earlier vids are shot in natural light so that's closer to the "truth". ;-))

  • @kokolaroo LOL! I should send you a picture. If I only knew how. I'm terrible with computers, that includes sending photos. The running joke with my friends and family is that once a photo gets taken by Sam, don't expect her to be able to share it with you, b/c she still doesn't know how to do it. Jeez. I don't think it's fair of me to know what you look like but you have no idea what I look like. Maybe one of my sisters can help me send you a photo. If you like... :-))

  • @samjaely OMgosh you should totally send me a picture! Although I'll probably cry when I see it and think "what could have been"...lol....honestly when your sister helps you out you won't believe how easy it is!! Well in Mac world it is...I've never used PC before but I'm sure it can't be too difficult ;-P

  • @kokolaroo Yes, lighting can make you or break you. As all the classic actresses knew. They loved the 'light'. I'm totally camera shy so I probably would never make a video. But I'm glad you're not. I LOVE to watch your videos and hear what you have to say. You're so intelligent and articulate! And funny. Hahaha!

  • @samjaely aww thank-you! ;-D

  • @kokolaroo I totally agree with the lighting thing...sometimes my skin is immaculate and looks blah in a video and other times my skin looks horrible and looks fine in video. I've seen you in real life and you are STUNNING! I honestly can't believe you smoked I would never have known!

  • @blushingpixie aww gurl you are too sweet!! Yes "the light" is a girl's best friend!! Mama I smoked since I was 14 to 35! Such a filthy disgusting habit but boy I sure enjoyed it at the time. Thank gawd it's a thing of the past.....I don't even want to think about what my skin would look like if I was still puffing away...."shudder"......xx

  • Can you recommend a good sunscreen that is not shiny please?

  • One thing I have started doing only this week is treating the skin behind my ears and neck. You may already do this but I started as it was pointed out that by stimulating collagen production and cell turnover in these areas it will help support the skin on the face. Would love to hear a feedback video of any useful tips you get. And why do some people feel they just want to get into an argument. Firstly they don't even listen properly, second they make stupid comments as a result and third thi

  • @Angelmagik2 I do drag whatever is left on my fingers down my neck but I never though about the ears....thanks for the tip!! Well some people are just argumentative and it's easy to try and stir things up anonymously behind a screen. It must be hard to live life like that so I try to have compassion...but some days it works my last nerve...Lol! Unfortunately I LOVE shiny sunscreens and can't really use anything matte on my face, but if I hear of one I'll let you know ;-))

  • Love your video. I am into my 11th week using retin a and my skin is still flaking which I hate but it is not sore. I use vit C serum to moisturise and could not manage without it.

  • @Angelmagik2 ah yes the flaking....grrr.....but I hope you stick with it! It does get

    better ;-)))

  • Beginning with any of the retinoids it is smart to start slowly, every third or fourth night. I wash my face and wait twenty minutes for the pH level to return to normal and then apply my Renova and also a serum right around the eyes. Renova should not be placed in the creases of our noses or right up to our bottom lash lines. I pat it up to the bottom of the junction of my cheek and orbital ridge.

  • @AbbieJolie Thanks so much for sharing!! ;-D

  • Gorgeous video! I was so exited to see it in my sub.box. ;)

I'm in my 20ies & ha've been using 0,1% retinoid via Differin for a few months against acne -it really helps with it, plus makes my skin so smooth & radiant, love it!

Every night I use either Differin or Avène Triacneal (6% glycolic acid +0,1 retinaldehyde), and aside from occasional flakiness I'm lucky to actually experience zero irritation!

My mum's trying it out too, with medium interest, we'll see if she keeps up with it.

  • @flexiplnt Yes I did know that retinA was used to treat acne but unfortunately I'm not sure if I mentioned it in the video.....in some ways I'm glad I didn't or the video would have been over 30 mins! Thank-you for your post!!.....I'm sure it will help anyone who's dealing with acne issues ;-)))

  • This video could not have come at a better time. I have my first derm appt this coming Tues and in what research I've done I'm hoping to get Renova unless the derm recommends something different.

  • @ChristasWorld I think Renova is one of the most popular in the US....a wonderful subscriber also mentioned Atralin....I believe she said it contains hyaluronic acid so it really helps moisturize. That's what I initially asked my derm for but of course it's only available in the states. Good luck! ;-D

  • Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experiences w/ us.

@arewrites: I don't think she's so much "teaching" but sharing what she has been through and what information she gives. She clearly states this and as a loyal subscriber, I DO appreciate this. =)

  • @berrybellajoy Thank-you for your comment but I don't think it will make any difference to her/him....and that's okay too ;-))

  • There is a lot of misinformation here. If, as you state inthebeginning, you don't really know this stuff, why do you try to teach it? That is a diservice to your viewers.

  • @arewrites Why would you choose to watch it....no one is forcing you. There's a difference between sharing and teaching. Anyone who goes to YT to be "taught" is already setting themselves up for disappointment. Please read the disclaimer in the below bar.

  • @kokolaroo - didn't "choose" to watch it, once I realized you weren't providing real information; at that point, I switched off. But while in an ideal world, people wouldn't expect to learn things on YouTube, they do go to YouTube to learn. And in fact, in many, many cases (like with DermTV, for instance), they actually DO learn, too.

  • @arewrites That's the brilliant thing about life....everyone has a choice and if you feel like you learn from DermTV then good for you. But there are those of us who go to the YT beauty community to hear about other people's experience with a product. Why you think that YT should just cater to your wants and needs is beyond me. It's a buffet, take what you want and leave the rest.

  • I love you skincare philosophy and how you appreciate going to the basics and keeping it simple. I have learned so much from you about my skincare and our skins are completely different.

  • @oshinsr aww thank-you! I love hearing that the channel is helpful in some way ;-)))

  • love the honesty of ur videos koko ! im 26 and actually booked me and gaetano in for dysport , kinda like botox next month, i know its easy to not worry about ageing but i must be someone whos biggest fear is getting old lol. when u said asians suddenly age 150 years over night, what age does that start happening??? *shivers*

  • @projectCHESTER OMgosh I know you probably meant this comment to be tongue and cheek but it really makes me sad. What you fear the most is something that WILL HAPPEN. The stress alone with start to really effect what you look like. I'm not your mother obviously but I would rather see you spend your time and money into embracing things that make you feel great from the inside. Your appearance is just a shell.

  • Hi kokolaroo, I have just started stieva-a for a few mths as the doctor prescribe it to me for acne treatment however she did not ask me to avoid other types of cream.can I ask if I could still use neutrogena healthy skin anti blemish and anti wrinkle cream for e morning?although from e precautions they did inform us not to combine salicylic acid but I am not sure if it would harm me as up till now I still use the neutrogena to prevent any major breakouts for me.

  • @spongybob06 Honestly that is a question for your derm. I am not qualified to diagnose other people's skin care regimen. Please read the disclaimer in the below bar ;-))

  • Oh thanks for the tip! I was thinking about trying MAC prep+prime spf50. Just curious if I apply a high spf sunscreen in the morning under makeup will it be protecting me all day? Or should I keep a powdered sunscreen around (the one you mentioned before is wonderful) and use it on my face when im directly in sunlight? Little confused about that. TY!

  • @bebepinkdoll You must reapply sunscreen every 2-4 hrs depending on the strength, if you don't it's basically like you don't have it on....;-)

  • I loved your advice to the 20somethings!! lol to be able to go back in time and really appreciate the perfectly smooth skin of my youth :P

  • @LydiaSfacefun ah yes....hindsight ;-)))

  • i use a product called firma face-by serious skin care- after you use it for 30 days you feel your skin firmer and plumper- it has nano retinol in it goes deeper into your skin - i notice a HUGE difference- your to young to see the wacko shadows older skin can get from loosing firmness. i have pretty much lost a lot of my wacko shadows many bad reviews on it but i have 5 back ups LOL- along with peptide serums- i tried (gommage) and WOW! LOOK it up -- love how you look now right! love shelly

  • @magicadespell56 Thanks for sharing Shelley! ;-))

  • Omg...I'm totally one of those girls you have mentioned...I think it's maybe due to the Asian culture. My mom told me to use an eye cream when I turned 20 haha. I've used argan oil for a few weeks now and it really is a life saver for the cold and dry Canadian winter.

  • @uknowiloveso Yes Argan is fantastic!! ;-D

  • Ciao Kokolaroo, Loved your video, great job!!! I use exactally the same product, "Stieva-A 0.025% and have been for a while now, but my Derm Dr also told me that I could use some moisturizer under the cream if it was becoming a problem for me. I was told to use Cetaphil or Nutraderm and let it set for about 20 min first then apply the Stieva-A. Worked great for me and had no dryness or peeling after that tip from the Dr. I love the product and using it and my skin looks great now. -Shelley xXx

  • @SamsHabeby Thanks so much for sharing your experience!! I'm sure it will help anyone who's having a rough go! ;-)))

  • Thanks for the fast reply on my previous question! I have 2 more :P

    1) If you stop using Retin-A for ..say 2 months, and you start again, would you go through the side effects again?

    2) I was told you have to use a very mild moistiruzer after Retin-A application, but I also heard that you can use whatever cosmetics/moisturizers as long as Retin-A is fully absorbed into the skin, do you know anything about this?

    Thanks in advance!

  • @em303033 I've never stopped it for 2 months so I don't know the answer and I haven't heard anything about specific moisturizers. Those questions should be directed to your derm ;-)))

  • Great video!!!! Very helpful. Would like to see your skin routine video.

  • @anastasiavn There's a day/night skin care vid on the channel ;-)

  • Very cool. Many thanks!

  • @lizzieintx Thanks for taking the time to watch ;-))

  • THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for all this great info. I was so glad to see tho video pop up because just a week ago I was prescribed a Retin A cream. I use it at night but I'm noticing when I put my spy on in the morning it stings my face a little. When I use a cream with no spf it doesn't sting. My face has ALWAYS been sensitive to spy though. Any suggestions? I really like what you said about using hybrids. What spf do you use?

  • @mmg378 No unfortunately I don't have that issue.....like with most things it's trial and error. I use Skinceuticals Ultimate defense SPF 30 ;-)

  • As an licensed Esthetician, I tell people especially the younger ladies "You can't fix what's not broken!!" I agree with you that worrying about aging will make you age faster. Sunscreen in your teens and twenties is your best defense. I am starting to play with tretinoin now that I am 35 and it's super hard on my skin, which like you is uber sensitive! I am gonna stick with it though because I know the results are worth it :) Thanks for another great video!

  • @pdxbeautiful Thanks so much for commenting! I always had a disclaimer on the old channel page but unfortunately I'm not able to with the new YT setup. As much as I love researching skin care for myself I'm certainly not qualified to diagnose anyone else so I appreciate it when professionals like yourself take the time out to comment ;-))

  • Re 04:16 – it boils down to semantics. Vit A-derivatives (i.e. tretinoin & retinol) effectively increase cell turnover and exfoliation by stimulating cell production underneath the top layers of skin; in other words, the acceleration of cell turnover caused by the use of retinol (or tretinoin) encourages the exfoliation of dead skin cells, allowing healthier (undamaged) cells to appear on the outer surface. (And I LOVE it, haha!!!)

  • @visceralanding Yes it's definitely semantics but most people regard exfoliation in layman's terms so there's room for confusion....I'm loving it too lady..lol!! ;-D

  • @kokolaroo right – manual vs. chemical exfoliation. But, as you pointed out, most people think of manual exfoliation (i.e. surface abrasion) when they think of the term. Glad you're enjoying positive results from Retin-A. I've been using tretinoin for yrs and it's the single best investment I've ever made for my complexion. I'm on maintenance now & only have to use it 2-3x/week (can even get away w/just once) to get (well, maintain really, haha) the same amazing results. It's beyond fantastic.

  • Haha...I am wondering at what age these compounds STOP improving skin quality.....or if there is such a "deadline".

  • @lizzieintx I don't think so because it's about cellular turnover ;-)

  • I agree with you, I am in my mid 20's and I know a bunch of people who use really hard stuff on their skin (high concentration of retina/retinol, agressive peels, etc). I think you should listen to your skin, I don't have problems with my skin and all the 'this product will amke your skin look young, etc, you should use chemical peels when your 20, because then it is too late' make me feel uncomfortable sometimes. do I look old? etc. I think it is too much. healthy food can make a difference too

  • @MeClaire111 I love the way you think! I know there's a lot of pressure in today's society but I'm so glad to hear that you're listening to your gut instincts...they always serve you well ;-))

  • @kokolaroo I loved this comment too. I work for a skincare company and most girls in their 20s and a LOT in their 30s and 40s that have amazing skin and don't need anything intensive. However, I would say, there are a few women in their 20s who already have premature aging that can benefit from an antiaging routine (retinols especially) and look better for it in the long run, bc their skin is more responsive, as long as they treat it gently, moisturize properly, and are faithful to sunscreen.

  • Ok, first of all I cannot believe you are over 40 years old...WOW! I thought you were in your late 20's or early 30's! You look fabulous girl!

  • @vanessa61126 I have fabulous bathroom lighting....lol! ;-D

  • i am using tretinoin cream 0.1 and do notice a difference in the appearance of my skin, not quite a year though, but i will stick with the program. your kitty is so cute, what is he or she's name.

  • @rox0459 Yes I'm only a year into it as well....it will just get better and better...woohoo!!

    ;-D

  • I agree, I find it really disturbing when I hear about v young girls using anti-aging stuff, especially botox on people in their 20s. I remember asking you about retinol, this was so useful. I find it great for anti-aging but the peeling is harsh. I don't get it so much on my face, but my hands & lips. I had to learn when & how to use it, there should be more info on the back of products that conatin retinol..

  • @daisynation Yes it would definitely help to have more info on the products themselves, but luckily you have to see a derm to get a prescription so you can get a lot of info that way. I really feel for the youth of today....I really don't blame them, it's a natural reaction to all the imagery they are forced to deal with on a daily basis. It's really up to their parents to fight against all the horrible messages we're sending to kids!....sigh...

  • Ages ago my dermatologist prescribed Retin A for my bad teenage acne. It burned my skin and did not help my acne at all. In my early 20's I tried Clinique facial soap and Clarifying Lotion and it cured my acne. I still use just those 2 Clinique products

For anti aging I just use a Lancome 50 SPF sunscreen because basically it's the sun that ages my skin.

    Great video!

  • @victoriaindigo Basically I couldn't tolerate the burning of Retin A on my skin so I stopped using it pretty much right away. It made my teenage acne worse lol

  • @victoriaindigo Yes I've heard a few people mention that it didn't help their acne at all.....thanks so much for posting your experience! ;-D

  • Hi, do you use RetinA in your eye area too? Thx.

  • @hunvamp There are eye products out there that contain retinol but I don't use it for my eye area......I think prescription grade is a bit too strong for me ;-)

  • Great video! I'm 41 and have been using Tretinoin for the past couple of years and I must say that it has been the only product that has made a difference in my skin. Everything you mentioned was exactly what I went through! xoxo Rita

  • @sofiascloset Thanks for sharing Rita!! ;-D

  • Hi Koko! This an A+ video ; ) I use the biggy strength retin A for acne. I LOVE it! Great tips, particularly the wash-off technique. It drives me crazy that people give up because of irritation, but I understand. I think it's irritating for all in the beginning. My fav thing to do is NOT dab it on, but pat between palms & pat & press on. Does that make sense? Anyway - love you ^^

  • @ClementineCutie Yes it totally makes sense.....it's basically the way you have to use Creme de la Mer ;-))

  • How old are you?I honestly thought you are in your 30's :)

  • Thank you so much for this video, Koko! It's very helpful! I am playing with a thought of starting with Retin A for a while and still didn't make my decision if I should do it or not. Your video made a lot of things more clear to me.... Btw I don't know how old you are, but you made me choke when you said in your 40's...What???? Don't even say your age, you will make me depressed! Lol Big hugs to you. Love, Hana xxx

  • @MissHanaG Omgosh Hana you are too kind!! You have to remember I have pretty good lighting in my spare bathroom so it's a bit of an illusion....lol....you can see the difference from my very first few vids where I'm in another room with natural sunlight. I honestly don't think anyone should be thinking of serious anti-aging products until 33, 34 and up....if I could go back in time I would have started at 35 and no earlier ;-)) xx

  • Thank you so much. This has been a huge help to me. I did not even consider the possibility of using as a face mask initially, I have very sensitive skin also. Do you use it strictly on face or do you use on neck and decollate area just like normal skincare. My dermatologist said it can be used in all those areas. Any thoughts?

  • @pavafans Yes I believe it can be used elsewhere but I only use it on the face and whatever I have left over on my hands I'll drag down my neck ;-))

  • I am soooo interested in this subject but I have to file it and watch it later because....30mins...yikes...

  • @MsTheBow Yikes is right......I posted a disclaimer a few videos back that the RetinA vid was going to be almost 30 mins long ;-((

  • @1sharmee lol....aww thanks for the love ;-)))

  • hi koko! thank you for doing this. you have no idea of how happy i was seeing your face in my subbie-box (as usal) and when i saw the topic... well.... YEY! anyways, i just wanted to share: im in my mid 20's and i used retin-a 0.05% for 3 months and i LOVE it. i also use 10% glycolic on the nights that i dont use retin-a and skinceuticals feurulic in daytime (all thanks to you that one :) my fine lines and large pores has completly gone away. maybe young folkz would try it for enlarged pores xo

  • @leathekid aww thank-you!! Yay I'm so glad the CE Ferulic is working for you!! it's great added protection which is a must if you're on RetinA ;-)))

  • I am 25 and I used .5 retinol from obagi system, and loved it! I did have the side effect, but I agree that it is so worth it. but as you said, it's too cold n dry to use it now, and also heard that we are supposed to give it a break every once in a while and start again to get the best effects, so Im on a break now for about a month. I used again after a month, and I'm going to up the dose to 1.0 this time but only once a week. totally agree with argan oil. I loved this video! thanks!!

  • @uicmarie Thanks so much for sharing your experience! ;-D

  • What a very imformative video. Thank you so much for sharing your info. You said vitamin c, vitamin e and retinol are important. How do you use the vitamin e? Just as oil? Or vitamin form? Did u mention it? i tried listening but my kids were loud in the background..lol. going to be hitting the big 35 this year and i need to get on a new skin care regime ;-)

  • @lisaeckman27 I'm not sure if I mentioned it or not...I never know exactly what I say when I ramble on and on.....lol....as for where I get my Vit E....it's in the CE Ferulic that I've gone on and on about on the channel. There's already a vid if you're interested ;-))
