I have a graphics card that uses pci-e x16 and a intel core 2 quad q6600 cpu. I currently have an asus pk5pl-vm. Can anyone recommend a better motherboard?
@thereddog223 sandy bridge is already out. now while some of the cpus do perform slightly better with the exception of the 980x like maybe 10% better, there are some disadvantages...like no full out pci-e x16 on both cards when in sli or crossfire and no tripple channel. If you're on x58 sandy bridge is kinda like a side grade than an upgrade. its defiantly not obsolete
@thereddog223 yeah but thats not out yet so technically its not obsolete..not yet anyway, if you want the ultimate setup at THIS MOMENT...x58 is what you want
This guy gets so excited about his reviews, he might just be able to sell me on an old 8086 pc if he describes the hardware as good as he does here.LMAO

is very good, but with all that capacity would have to occupy only the only people who are dedicated himself to what would be the graphic design that for a normal person would have it I do not think I could fill all its capacity and with such power with a large processor and 18 GB of RAM is a lot for an ordinary person
Albert the ide conector is pointles but flopy is not you can do a lot of programing with flopy ,like gpu bios flash or flashing your bios on the motherbord, because when you flash your bios thru the flopy it does not make any erors as the in side windows utility so keep thet in mind,Thenks Gigabyte for including flopy conector!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It wont boot for some reason. I connected it to my old dell 8300 case and put superglue between the fan and the central intel chip. I turned the power on and all I hear is the fans spinning and a buzzing noise
Why are motherboards so small? I keep reading that some cards take up multiple slots (because they cover an adjacent slot) and look how close the RAM slots are, which will make RAM get hot when all slots are filled.
Why not make the boards two inches larger all around, so everything (expansion cards, RAM) fit without crowding each other and also allow better air flow?
cuz the average person gets a large case like an antec 900 and this case fits these boards well, but if you want a bigger board then youll need an XL case , aka antec 1200, but thats a huge case!
i have the antec 1200 and i like the fact that every thing can fit but if i had two of them i actually could make a table out of em. lol

for an extra 45 euros in the ud7, your getting much more future compatability in USB 3.0 and SATA 3.0 plus if your oveclocking, the UD7 has 24 phase power which gives greater stability. I have the UD7 and it is an amazing board.
@Thet3 A velicoraptor drive is exactly the same as any other drive other than the fact that it runs at 10,000 rpm (revolutions per minute) meaning that it has lower seek times and faster data transference. They also have much better MTBF (mean time between failures)
However this comes at a cost, the capacity of the drives is lower, they cost more and generate more heat.
Most people, like me, have a couple of raptors for their OS and a few programs, and then larger, slower drives for storage
hey guys where can i buy one of theese???? but the cheaper of the cheaper i want a new board not a used! so please! im living on belleville new jersey!
@waackomann good salesmen can sell you a peice of poop and make you happy with your purchase. Until you figure out it does nothing... cause it's just a piece of poop.
will a X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Champion Series card fit into this the capasitors are close to the mini pci- e slots and the sound card has bits that stick out .
lol, IDE connector...why's that bad? I'm still using a IDE HD, it would be nice to have a motherboard that supports it anyways, incase you ever needed to transfer over some data to the newer HD from an IDE HD.
People ARE still using IDE Hard Drives, their not THAT old, lol
Gigabyte GA-EX58-EXTREME2 will be launched soon... NEW FEATURES * 4 x SATA 6 Gb/s ports (controlled by 2 x Marvell 88SE9123 controller) * 4 x USB 3.0 ports (controlled by 2 x USB 3.0 controller) * 4 x PCI-Express 2.0 X16 slots * CPU is powered by 24-phase circuit * CHIPSET and VRM supports water-cooling OLD FEATURES * 6 x DDR3 DIMM Slots (24GB max) Triple Channel * 6 x SATA 3 Gb/s ports * Dual Gigabit Ethernet * 8-Channel audio * Supports both NVIDIA SLI and ATI Crossfire
usually does that cause ur RAM is not set at specs....so after bumping fsb choose the ram multipler that will bring your ram speed close to its specs...also set the right voltage for ur ram. also keep ram performance to "normal" or "standard". set pci value to 100. disable usb storage function. set manually all timings for your ram instead of auto. that should get you easy to 3.4 or so without any vcore increase
Lets say I put in a 4870x2 on the first PCI Express 2.0 slot (the blue one all the way to the top). Then, I put in another 4870x2 on the last PCI Express 2.0. ( the orange one all the way to the bottome). Will they both run at x16? Cos the 4870x2 is quite big and if I put them right next to each other, the first 4870x2 wont get enough cooling so yah.
Will they still run at x16 speed if I put one at the first blue pci express slot and another at the last orange pci express slot? Thanks.
I think im slowly getting convinced into getting the gigagbyte ex58 extreme. Anyone think or know if the asus rampage 2 extreme is better. Hmmm! please share :)
Yes. I have already decided. Another thing why I chose GIGABYTE becaus the EXTREME is in their Ultra Durable 3 Series and that includes 2 oz of copper. That gives you better stability in overclocking as well as lower temps. I easily got my Q9400 from 2.66 to 3.20 GHz without too much heat increase
Awesome! lol let me know which one you decide to get. Whats your pc build spec?
I've been reading some reviews about both motherboards but still cant choose which one to get. Im going to build an air cooled pc, So apart from the price, what is better in features, cooling, performance, reliability, overclocking, ease of use? any other points please add.
Im buying this tomorrow with corsair dominator gt and i7 920 watercooled. Everybody agree that it will work or is there any problems with these components?
Go with GIGABYTE. The ASUS Rampage II Extreme is also a good board but in the long run, I would rather go with the GIGABYTE. In my place, the GIGABYTE is cheaper and it also includes the water cooling thing. However the ASUS is more expensive.
Weird thing is that I am also looking at the same boards as you lol
Well for me it is little bit cheaper and I can order it from same place that I order my other stuff. I was the easiest way and I think Gigabyte has some really good stuff. Asus is good too but Gigabyte fits me better.
I think this board it worse in terms of PCI slot placements. If you wanna SLI that means you'll be using both the BLUE pci slots for the graphic cards. From the pics here I think BOTH the white normal PCI slots will be BLOCKED. And the shorter BLack PCI at the top looks like it has very litte length to place a full card in. That heat sink is really in the way....
At least on the Rampage 2 you could BEND and snap off some of the heatsink pins to make space for your Fatality Audio cards.
am thinking of getting this, or i might consider buying this motherboard instead. Gigabyte EX58 Extreme. let me know what you think people. message me! :)
Hey mate, great reviews that you do. I'm just wondering, does the software that comes with these boards have support for Windows 7 64 bit? As my Current P6t SE software doesnt seem to want to work. Also, with the large heat sinks, I'm concerened my Noctua cpu cooler wont fit/sit on there without clashing with it...has anyone tried this? Would love some feedback as I want to buy this board! Thanks guys

cos motherboards come in standard sizes. standard ATX is generally ok for everything but you also have mini and bigger versions.

Hi, Im thinking of buying this also, but there are soo many motherboards that I had finally narrowed it down to these two:
ASUS Rampage 2 Extreme
Gigabyte EX58 Extreme
Am still not sure which one to buy, how did you decide to buy this instead of any other extreme motherboard?
Thanks :)
x007agent 2 years ago
Go with GIGABYTE. The ASUS Rampage II Extreme is also a good board but in the long run, I would rather go with the GIGABYTE. In my place, the GIGABYTE is cheaper and it also includes the water cooling thing. However the ASUS is more expensive.
Weird thing is that I am also looking at the same boards as you lol
xXxmidgexXx 2 years ago
Well for me it is little bit cheaper and I can order it from same place that I order my other stuff. I was the easiest way and I think Gigabyte has some really good stuff. Asus is good too but Gigabyte fits me better.

Or I might go with Rampage because it is only 17€ more expensive. Not sure yet.

Thanks for the info hawklanzs :)
im thinking of using 2 gtx 280s and using onboard sound. But i read if you use that extra cooling for the northbridge, the air flow isnt any better.
Am not sure now, which one to get. Something powerful, overclocks, with very good cooling.
What spec is your build hawklanzs?
x007agent 2 years ago
Unless you can use the ORANGE pci slot for a 3rd party sound card. then this board is better than the Rampage 2
hawklanzs 2 years ago
Sorry for this board the Pci-e is WHITE (the one at the TOP) I said Black earlier, my bad.
hawklanzs 2 years ago
So this is better than the ASUS Rampage 2 Extreme motherboard? in how many ways..
Does anyone own this motherboard and have you had any issues or found any faults with it?
Thanks :D

can i fit an SLI setup and use the CREATIVE FATALITY X-Fi Soundcard? I don't see enough space for it from this video.
that means How can i fit
2 GTX280
and at the same time a Creative Fatality Professional X-Fi Pci-e card
hawklanzs 2 years ago
Are you considering of buying this also?
Am going to wait and see what the comments say..
Let the comments begin! :D
x007agent 2 years ago
I think this board it worse in terms of PCI slot placements. If you wanna SLI that means you'll be using both the BLUE pci slots for the graphic cards. From the pics here I think BOTH the white normal PCI slots will be BLOCKED. And the shorter BLack PCI at the top looks like it has very litte length to place a full card in. That heat sink is really in the way....
At least on the Rampage 2 you could BEND and snap off some of the heatsink pins to make space for your Fatality Audio cards.

am thinking of getting this, or i might consider buying this motherboard instead. Gigabyte EX58 Extreme. let me know what you think people. message me! :)
Thanks

EX58. Much more capability. Lots of expansion and the overclocking reviews are much better!

KristianDahl007 2 years ago
Of course

but this MoBo is only for Core i7 and i9 CPU's

They really ever or never say that somthing is bad or crappy. In this review´s i dont trust them.
But one thing i like is the watercooling connections.
Haokot 2 years ago
Its true, they dont "review" anything, its product showcases.

Yo! Will an EVGA GTS 250 fit here? On the first pci-e x16 slot all the way to the top with the heatsink on? thanks

Thanks guys
jlebesis 2 years ago
it must, b/c the people who buy this WILL be using a 64-bit OS and widnwos 7 is BASICLY vista.
99.9% sure it will work

Why to such badass motherboards like this still have IDE, Floppy and PS/2?!?!!?
