This happened around my house. But something weird happened, like all the clouds starting getting sucked into one area of the sky. I watched it. I was like ok...
@peterkuhf Colorado Springs is to broke to afford Sirens. And besides people around here are to stupid and believe the Mountains are gonna save our asses in the event of a Tornado passing through. It's gonna take a Greensberg event before that happens.
I'm a storm chaser, there is no rotation, and that "rotation" that you saw would have to be counter clockwise, not clockwise, what you saw as probly skud, its okay, it looks like a tornado, is low like a tornado, but isn't even a funnel.
I did say there was no funnels... if anything was muttered similar to that in the video lol, it is because I tend to freak out in wild weather situations. Let's just say I respond badly to the adrenaline rush! :D
@armycookwife i understand, now that i look closely, there is very very light rotation, probably not enough for radar to pickup, cause radar only has about a 1.5 minute gab in between each scan, so that is most likely why no rotation was picked up, but absolutely beautiful structure! that storm is very photogenic. i would love to have a storm like that in my state, all we get here ever is storms booking at 60mph that are high precipitation storms, those are not fun at all to chase.
@omnidroid200 dude, not all chasers are the "storm chasers" I'm volunteer chaser that has CERT, Community Emergency Response Team training, which is a more than basic medical training, but no where near EMT training and more of a photographer for the team, and an extra set of eyes, and now that i payed more attention to the video, there are no funnels, but weak rotation. still would have been scary to be under. I am glade that the EMS did issue a tornado warning for this storm
i wonder what it is like having a tornado warning? i dont want to know but i live in maine and we barely ever get them but im not saying we couldent!!
If there is a rotation directly above you, why would you go out into the middle of the street? EVEN if it hasn't created a funnel, doesn't mean the winds aren't there. LOTS AND LOTS of storm chasers have said that. So next time you film this, plz be safe =(
Out side during tornado warning tornado can be above you e\without warning your up in the air ooh and it looks like your in the middle of the street Get inside!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ha... you live in my home area code XD but alas... this is in Colorado and our weather behaves slightly different than they do in the home state... the weather is closer to us and the air is thinner... it has a strange effect on things. You tell the soldiers who saw the funnel from this cloud touch down that it wasn't a tornado... I'm sure they'd disagree.
Ya know whats funny.. why do they have lightning storm sirens that you can hear ten miles away but they cant even buy a tornado siren to hear a mile away?
I love this video... they may have the warning for severe weather or maybe there is a funnel just not near you yet. I know how you feel Christen i live in Ohio and they have the warnings every time there's bad weather.. uh
Ya know what? I don't think we even HAVE Tornado Sirens. There was recently a funnel cloud on the other side of town that never touched down, but I did NOT here a siren. It is RARE for Tornadoes to touch down this close to the Rockies, so perhaps the local government is saving money? I sure as hell can here the sirens on base every time we get a lightening storm though o.o
Actually saw a very pronounced funnel cloud over Union and Platte that afternoon. I experienced a nice downdraft in downtown as this came down off the mountains.
Wow... this is from fountain-mesa (near Ft Carson G20) looking towards I-25. I had heard about the Platte funnel, as neat as it may have been, I'm glad I missed it lol
As weird as it sounds, about 3 minutes after the warning was issued, i placed a speaker in my window (i lived on the 3rd floor of an apartment) and there were kids playing outside. I played a siren recording at full volume and I never seen so many people scatter!
Colorado is on the western edge of Tornado Alley. We get tornadoes, and there have been a few devastating ones, including an F3 (I believe) in Holly, CO and an F5 that leveled the town of Limon. Most front range cities don't get horrible tornadoes.
There's been several to the east, south, and north of here, but none have touched down in the Springs (which yes would be front range) for YEARS... besides the one in Monument this day
Haha. Yeah..... which is why this is so weird... Colorado never gets tornadoes. Oh, and for the record, I lived in IL for the first 21 years of my life, so I know exactly what ur talking about, although I remember it being more like a Tornado Warning once a week, especially in the Summer. Would you believe most people in the Springs don't even HAVE a basement??
Ya, that was kinda scarry when it happened. I take it you live in the Northeast? Although storms never did touch down in El Paso, we got a close call a couple of times. When 2 tornados came down, everyone freaked out. El Paso has never gotten this kind of weather before, especially the 3 month rain.
Yup it was El Paso county, but the southern part, right over my house in Fountain. I thought there was at least one touchdown up in Woodland Park/Monument??
uhm... this is El Paso County Colorado, more directly, in and around Colorado Springs... I think you got confused. Tornadoes DID touch down this day in Colorado, and we never get weather like this so close to the mountains.
Ohhh, well im in El Paso, Texas XD. Tornadoes touched down over here 2, and we never got anything like it in the history. lol we have a lot in common when it comes 2 weather XD
WHAT YOU TALKEN ABOUT??? That is the first stage, the VERY first stage of a tornado formation. I know what im looking for though...

you might be looking at a mini spin up or a slight rotation in the clouds but often with those they wont issue a warning for your area

They usually call warnings for signs of activity in the cloud bases, which is probably what you're in right now! Nice video by the way! :)
P.S. The reason why it's cold might be because of the cold front following that cloud base!
