People forget when it comes to any marital art, it is not about winning the fight but about defending yourself aganist the attacker and getting the hell away from them. It is good to know all kinds of fighting styles but just remember to defend and get away!!!! Krav Maga Kick Ass!!! I have wonderful instructors!!!

Without question, krav maga, is one of the LOWEST quality "arts" for training available comparable only to that of Tae-Kwon-Do or Aikido. This stuff is a joke and COMPLETELY sucks! Krav Maga entirely negates one of the most, (if not THE most), important areas of combat -- GROUND FIGHTING. Unless you adequately know how to fight on the ground, you're going to be hamburger against someone who does -- period. They also do not teach proper offensive weapon tactics -- HUGE MISTAKE!
This is completely false and doesn't warrant duking it out on here...I think in terms of effectiveness...the fact that the FBI, Mossad, Israeli Army, and some sections in the Canadian Military all learn krav maga techniques...i think thats enough to say....that its just as effective as any other martial art...
what a rediculous comment.i work in an armed profession and am a combat veteran. what did fighting men do for thousands of years before brazilian jujitsu became "popular"?? pull your head out of your ass rtfmplz. The "statisics" that most fights end up on the ground IS NOT TRUE. If you had more experience in real word defensive tactics and used these same tactics occupationally rather than as a sporting event, you would realize how ignorant your comment was.
KM is badass. I've taken Muay Thai, BJJ, Karate and KM. By far KM is more effective for defense, especially as a non-sport system. It's not about "art" it's about protecting yourself and stopping your attacker and that's it.
By the way, I've learned lots of ground fighting techniques in KM - the difference is that the KM focus is on NOT being on the ground...
Why?
Because how good is your BJJ when there are 3 people kicking your ass?
Would you recommend taking Muay Thai? Cuz I want to take some form of self defense but there are no Krav Maga training site around where I live so I'm trying to think of the next best thing... =/ Help?
Mui Thai is good exercize but I would never recommend any girl (unless super fit) to get into fisting and kicking fight against bigger guy then she is. There is more chance to make guy angry then to win fight. Actually, I think that better fit for girl would be take downs and grappling techs like judo and ju-jitsu. Girl is more likely to find herself in those situations and maye may have better chance of escape. My background: Judo & JJ, TaeKwonDo, Krav and many street brawls at younger age.
One last thought... they may have said that all levels of fitness can do Krav Maga... But not that all levels can master... or rather teach... Better an alive student... Then a dead master...
I think that most martial arts have gotten too big... 19 forms of chi kung built into 108 to form tai chi... then the two man sets... then sword forms... and on. Styles like wing chun, were small also... then the how many form wooden man set. I enjoy krav maga cause it remains small... A short time to learn... A life time to master... But you can still kick ass when you must.
Nothing is invulnerable. Nothing. But after 3 years studying Krav, I definitely have upped my chances of surviving an attack. I sure hope I have, because I have given up gallons of sweat and a bunch of money. One warning: The tests are insanely difficult -- level 1 is three hours and 2 and 3 are around 4 hours. It's a cardio workout, so when they say that people of all fitness levels can do it, I think that's a bit dubious.

Yeah, I'd recommend it.
Muay Thai is great for learning really important striking fundamentals and it's a really strong, solid, and effective martial art.
You can't go wrong with Muay Thai :)

Dude it works! I have a black belt in another style, and I can tell you right now, Krav Maga is one of the few styles that truly work on the street.
