@WulfBand Gyrocopters often have a small belt going to the main rotor just to get it started spinning.... after it starts spinning though it's allowed to freewheel on it's own. Giving the main rotor a pre-spin just helps it get going faster so you can take-off in a shorter distance.

This is an outstanding achievement! Autogyros are not new, but this one is adapted to operate like a familiar land vehicle and that is what helps make it safer.

MainAir Sports produced a prototype flying motorcycle for the military 30 years ago. It featured an ordinary dirt bike that could be driven into a simple trike frame and attached with pip pins. It could be airbourne safely within seconds. The purpose was for covert operations where the machine might be flown undetected into a zone, then the bike used for ground mobility. Very spectacular.

actually the ate autogyro was a lot different although there are similarites between the two craft there are major differences as well. anyway although not practical for the open road it does look like fun all the same and its price tag is still much cheaper than that of a used cessna. ^^
it's not so useful because you need a runway to take off, if you could take off from the highway and fly over a traffic jam and then land back on the highway and continue your driving that would be really useful:)
You're absolutely right, I'm a Commercial Pilot and Instructor and you will have to get a Private for Gyrocopter...or will they have a category for Gyrocopter Sport pilot? Either way...I dont see why you couldnt do that with a gyro,ultralight or powered parachute and do that NOW! NO INVENTION HERE!
Autogyros have been around since the 1930s. Ken Wallis is the great ace of them, and flew Little Nellie in james Bond film. Most Wallis autogyros have lower center of gravity and are smaller, therefore more sensible on roads

This is an outstanding achievement! Autogyros are not new, but this one is adapted to operate like a familiar land vehicle and that is what helps make it safer.

thats not a flying "motorcycle" how bout make something that fly's like a prop plane or jet but with a motorbike seating position? then you can call it a flying motorcycle thank you!!!!
PS: i wish aviation was like back in those old documentaries: being able to fly, and have fun experimenting with concepts and inventions.... and not necessarily making a profit out of it.

MainAir Sports produced a prototype flying motorcycle for the military 30 years ago. It featured an ordinary dirt bike that could be driven into a simple trike frame and attached with pip pins. It could be airbourne safely within seconds. The purpose was for covert operations where the machine might be flown undetected into a zone, then the bike used for ground mobility. Very spectacular.

actually the ate autogyro was a lot different although there are similarites between the two craft there are major differences as well. anyway although not practical for the open road it does look like fun all the same and its price tag is still much cheaper than that of a used cessna. ^^

it's not so useful because you need a runway to take off, if you could take off from the highway and fly over a traffic jam and then land back on the highway and continue your driving that would be really useful:)

2) it's a GYROCOPTER, old news
3) taking off from the road will NEVER be a possibility
and lastly, people can hardly drive as it is, what makes any think they can fly?
In addition, everybody wanting one needs to have a PPL, of which not just everbody can get.
Idea looks good on paper, but in reality it's a pipedream

You're absolutely right, I'm a Commercial Pilot and Instructor and you will have to get a Private for Gyrocopter...or will they have a category for Gyrocopter Sport pilot? Either way...I dont see why you couldnt do that with a gyro,ultralight or powered parachute and do that NOW! NO INVENTION HERE!

Autogyros have been around since the 1930s. Ken Wallis is the great ace of them, and flew Little Nellie in james Bond film. Most Wallis autogyros have lower center of gravity and are smaller, therefore more sensible on roads
