He's playing an A major with only his first finger (index finger) after showing us an A done the usual way, with the usual 3 fingers on the D, G, B strings.

Also... why we can't barre this thing? E's 7th fret on the "A"-type barre, A is on the 5th fret using the "E" type barre, and B is on the 7th fret with the "E"-type barre, so we'd go from 7th [play E's]to 5th [play A's] back to 7th [play B's]. What I don't understand yet is the structure of a B power chord (a B5).

You got the first tone , the fifth and the octave!
