I'm not convinced this is easier to play than a piano. On a piano you have the offset black and white keys to give you a reference. This looks just like a sea of buttons, I would feel like one could easily lose their place; I know I would.
It's actually 100 times easier. Because each interval is only one shape (whole tone is always one to the right, major third is always two to the right, etc) each thing you learn you know in every key right away, including scales, chords, runs, and entire pieces. It allows faster acquisition of the same musical ideas as the piano so that you can move on actual to musical expression sooner.
so the guitar is as isometric as this piano, but you dont see very many guitarists taking advantage of the system. they still get caught at f chord haha
apparently borth aurthur rubenstien and franz liszt supported this keyboard design when it was originally conceived and both felt that it would replace the old design without a doubt. If these two legendary guys thought it was so great why the hell aren't we using it today??
Because the musical community is the hardest community there ever was to invoke a paradigm shift. Doesn't matter what the benefits are in the ergonomics of a new instrument compared to the old one, if teachers don't want to teach it then students can't learn it, and if parents want their students to be taught they make them learn the convoluted instruments with plethora of user interface load not at all associated with musical expression that people are actually teaching.
It's only the KEYS that are different. The sound is the same as on a regular keyboard. So it is ofcourse possible to play this song on a regular keyboard too.
I play classic piano very well, looking at this chromatic keyboard i believe this could be a major improvement, the scales are closer and range is obviously bigger. Now I want some new thing for christmass.. ;) Thx for sharing
@YukihiroKitazaki the basic keyboard/piano 61 keys, consist of 183 strings, which is basically what she/it is playing. The standard 88 keys piano has 264 strings...SO BLAH!!!. Give me that shiznit, I bet I make her look like a dumbass!

oh iteresting! i want to buy one! if anoyone has any clue how to get hold of one please repy to this post or message my profile! :D (i've seen their homepage but it seems to be dead)
It's a Chromatone, an electronic piano thing with a Janko chromatic keyboard. And it makes my head hurt to imagine playing one. :) I give this fellow some credit for his skill at it.
it s easer to play than a normel keyboard. if you can play a a normel board than you can play this in 5 minutes. the keys are the same. This keyboard is made so you can easily play with out need to bend your fingers out of wac. Each not has 3 keys in a line hit any one its the same note.
what exactly is the difference from a real normal keyboard??

I'd have to re-learn everything from the start and think of it as another instrument other than a piano. Hahaha Would love to try one!!! :)

you play so well! what is the song, and can it be played on a normal keyboard ;)
llieske 4 years ago
music such as this should never be attempted on a normal keyboard!
ericslane 3 years ago
even if it shouldnt, that doesn't mean it's not possible ;)
llieske 3 years ago
well something like this is possible, since there are a lot of chords in this that already are played on a regular keyboard.
barcanard 3 years ago
yes, but can you really achieve the nuance that the chromatone offers?

Why couldn't he just play that on a normal piano? Then you get all the beautiful choice of tones that modern pianos can offer?

this is a demo of the device, not just done for the song. It would be sort of pointless to play it on a piano, no? :P

There is an Italian company that makes an acoustic piano version of this keyboard for an extra 7,000 euros.

Excellent playing, but I think the makers need to work on reducing key clicking noise.
