  • Glad you're not hurt, but may I suggest dumping the weights if you find yourself in this situation again: tilt the bar to one side so the weights fall off, repeat on the other side. Works like a charm. And hilarious monologue at the beginning, thanks!

  • What are you talking about? do you know anything about weightlifting or powerlifting? Holding your breath increases intrabdominal pressure and allows you to generate more force! it is called the "valsalva maneuver". Look it up.

  • I am no master of power lifting. But I do know a fair amount about weight lifting.

    When you "valsalva," you are decreasing blood return to the right side of the heart thereby creating a condition of hypotension. This would be bad for any beginner... which the above video clearly represents. It is also bad for someone with a heart condition.

    You are right in saying this move helps align your spine & can allow you to lift more. But the guy in this video is not low rep power lifting. Understand?

  • The valsalva maneuver does not decrease blood pressure, it increases it. The Aorta is the largest artery in the body and runs from the heart to the abdomen till it splits into the major illiac arteries. Increasing abdominal pressure in no way can decrease blood pressure, only increase venous return to the heart. It is slightly dangerous for those with heart conditions because it can sky rocket blood pressure.

  • This move does not put the spine into alignment, alignment reffers to a lign, it puts it into an arch, which is a shape capable of supporting massive weight, which is why you see bridges are supported by arches.

    You are right, he is not performing low rep which is what arching your back is most useful for, but arching your back is good even with high repitition because it allows you to practice the technique required to lift massive weight, and can allow you to get more reps for more gains

    Your hands are also in a crazy position. In line with your shoulders. Don't bounce it off your chest either, that's what pussies do. Lift slow and easy, steady and regular. Go for reps of 8 10 or 12, too much is not so good, unless doing a burn.

    Suicide is great if you want to drop the weight across your chest. Otherwise, you might want to put your thumbs around the bar.

    Then there's the problem with your back.

    Stop. If you want to do decline, get a decline bench. If you want to work the middle part of your chest, then keep it flat.
