This is a back projection of a face. I guess the system is using the video samples and building the expressions and moviments in realtime using the video samples. This is a VERY good solution for Robot Faces. Cause its look much more real, without the complexity of engines, motors, gears, plastic skin and all the tech to build a robot's face... The face and body are unequal in quality of resolution and why shoot it in black and white?

I suspect the colour matching was off so B&W blended the images better .. a few zoom in and out

movements have been added after the videos where merged to trick the eye into believing the images are 1.

This clever compilataion was likely produced by a video editing software with the aid of

chroma key fx tools. Having said that, very nice.

If you read the second comment by Germanpanzer it pretty much describes how the thing (NOT A ROBOT BY THE WAY) works. It's only a doll with a hollow head a projector inside and a semi-translucent face plate. Sorry, no tricks, you couldn't be more wrong about the resolution and the only programs used were probably for animation of the face image being projected on the face plate.

Nevermind, apparently the face of the robot is a semi-transparent shell and the animated "face" itself is a video recording that is projected onto this semi-transparent shell from a projector located within the head. This explains the realistic apperance of the facial expression... that's because it's a projected video recording of a real womans' face. Interesting concept but at the same time... kindda lame now that you know how it works.

I don't know if this one was an actual 'light projection' hologram, or a clever touch-up with a photoshop program, but it is pretty impressive.

Probably the reason why it kept saying 'humpty-dumpty' is because it is a simple voice program recognized all over the world, and easily transcribed into a chip. The text would have to be short and repeating, so as not to make the rest more difficult to program.

The old trick of projection. Anyone could do this. There is a projector at the base that sends an image up to a mirror in the head and it is projected onto the inside of the mask. It's a type of material that allows for the image to show through. Seen it at a Kings Dominion 25 years ago. :)
