Davy Crockett's knife still exists, it is basically a butcher knife , with grips that have angled and crossed lines cut into the handle. It is a big knife and not like a Bowie.

If you follow that Jim Bowie's knif made out of a file would look like a Searles bowie, not like the generally accepted shape.
