Peter Joseph courageously embodies the humanistic / scientific enlightenment of the 21 st century. He has grasped the very inner structrual contradictions of the CAPITALIST/MONETARY system and his revolutionary call for a WORLD OF COOPERATION FOR OUR COMMON NEEDS AND WELL BEING should be the CONSTITUTION OF NEW HUMANI CIVIILISATION. My deepest respect to my brother P.Joseph. in Zetgeist for Venus Project, Time to make history democratically, consciously and globally
CIA put Saddam Insane into power, exactly to overthrow a self-government of/by/for the Iraqi people. Why would anyone expect anything different, just because an invasion & occupation threw out the old dictator?
She's right on the facts but has a socialist interpretation. Iraqis did not want privatization of oil fields because they did not want multinational corporations to control their oil and having a US government protected monopoly. Nationalism is better than that for the reason that domestic tyranny is better than foreign tyranny. There was definitely nothing free market about it.
@snolge Vacuous? Oh really? What about the solution of government? Hey, let's just create a new government bureaucracy on top of the EPA and the MMS to hyperregulate the oil drillers! Now that's a vacuous solution!
@truevoice08 Hey i'm as anti-government as they come. They support those kinds of policies. Just because they've been backed into a corner by public opinion does'nt change the fact that they've destroyed the working class in your country(i'm assuming your American,i'm irish) by completely deregulating the corporations and letting them do what they like.
@snolge I believe in regulation, I just don't think an agency like the state should do it. Especially a state as centralized as that of the United States. And of course, the best regulation is to privatize parts of the sea. I don't know if you understand what I'm talking about but it's not as nuts as you might think.
The world needs more Naomi Klein's, Christine Amanpour's, Rachel Maddow's, Zainab Salbi's and others from Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India.
Congratulations for Naomi Klein for their eloquent voice. She is a sharp sociocritic and her analysis should make their way into the table of most world statesmen and stateswomen.
David Icke exposes the secret society / family agenda that will explain how and why things are the way they are. Watch his lecture here called ruled by the gods to start with (search for it) and many others but that one is a great start. Until you understand this then even if we find our best and brightest like Ron Paul, Naomi Klein, KENNEDY... they will remove and kill whoever we honestly elect or create distractions. One must understand the WHOLE picture first.
ron paul david ick alex jones all are shills to make us look like crazy people the reptiles and all this shit be carefull who you get your information from all the names listed above never mention the head of the priyamid the catholics and yes i know some words are misspelled but you will get over it
The stupid half of America swallows what it is sold as being legitimate. Unfortunately that means life through the lens of Faux snooz and CONN. They are also lazy, and prone to follow repetative patterns - repeating well worn paths, always following the same carrot even when it has become rotten and stinking. What they need to do is start to think for themselves not easy when you are poisoned with fluoride in the water, aspartame in everything and electromagnetic and mind pollution to start with
Very informative, cogent, succinct. I have been watching her videos on Iraq for some time, and visiting her website. Time to read The Shock Doctrine. Democracy Now is a great website. I like Commondreams, Znet, and Noam Chomsky Info too. All great stuff.
This is because Iraqis are a stupid people. They care about the religious part of the elections and that's it. When there is an official that has beliefs that they don't like, they kill the official. This is fact. I've seen this. The beliefs that I'm talking about are simple ones, such as, "He prays three times a week instead five time." This is how simple minded those people are.
If it would be possible for people to resolve the enculturated generational hatres, that seek to paint people that offer information and perspectives of truth, with smearing and defamation, then we could clean up all debate about serious issues.
Exactly what prejudice do you mean? If you read the books of investigative journalists they must list their sources (in order that they be credible)... Fox news (or, the great Infotainment center) does nothing of the sort. The neocon people invented the idea of "unnamed sources"... for the convenience of spewing untruths and trying to sound believable. Not that you are any stripe of these politics, but it is worth realism and honest consideration to actually study a person that you despise.
The Original Conservation Pledge of the United States of American written in 1946. A pledge that the President of the US used to have to take before the nation upon becoming leader.
"I give my pledge as an American to save and faithfully to defend from waste the natural resources of my country - its soil and minerals, its forest, waters and wildlife."
The RightWing agenda is a study in BigMoney and the Blood it takes to keep it going. It is what the Military Industrial Complex lives off of. Ex. The Iraqi War Whore and their wonderful veterans. The graphic sense one gets is that this is the combat frontispiece of decades of dumbed down mutants. The "wonderful soldiers", aka the same mentality of the 3rd Reich's "I was only following orders" mentality. Which of course is all part of the corporatocracy consciounsness. A cockroach mentality.
The funny things about NeoCons is this? They are perverts! Among them are preachers getting off on real honest homosexuals. Fucking defenseless children. A number of Groves where hookers and kids disappear at. The amazing thing is that they always have some masochist wife that they appear with when they're caught! Have you noticed that? Some dedicated terrorized woman of sorts that stands there starry eyed and ogling as the scum of the right talks about his "sin". After he's caught.
Me too, except that Paul Jay hasn't made good on his boasting that he would have a news channel on TV by 2007 (it's now the middle of 2008 and the RNN's still on the Internet only!)
ttterrrabbb, it does not matter how intelligent or cogent the arguments. Remember RPs comment as to why he voted against the Patriot Act? "I read it." Resoned, logical, *smart*. Yet, the PA is now law. Until you can wean the sheeple off the dole (what else is it when poloticians promise big things to their constituents to buy votes?), you aren't going to change votes, minds or hearts. Americans will vote their *rational* conciences when it *hurts* bad enough in the wallet. Think 1776.
The Media Blackout on Dennis Kucinich reading articles of impeachment this week continues. The media blackout on sen. Karen Johnson calling for a new 911 investigation this week as well.
That's collusion to suppress information by the 4th branch. If people didn't "get it" before surely that is a clear sign.
Noam Chomsky has been making these same points for decades , because it's been going on for decades.. Two ingenious minds , who are trying to raise awareness in this country , in order to give some power back to the people. Only time will tell if that's still possible. but they show their courage by even attempting it.. Great post!
lol everything naomi klein says is bullshit. And if you believe it you're a moron. plain and simple. trying to fallaciously equate people who see through her BS to fox news is not even an agrument. I've been in disaster relief on the federal side for years, have a degree in natural resource management and I promise you she's full of shit. And so are you.
very solid argument cruzander - how about giving us some examples rather than just calling people names? When name calling becomes the argument it is proof to me who is full of shit.
I called her a name? nope. Congratulations on the straw man, thought you'd catch it after trying to call me out on another logical fallacy. The Iraqi elections are different from american elections. people in Iraq are far more likely to vote upon sectarian lines. Elections matter. No matter what naomi klein says. There is a timetable on the table now. now that the nation has stablilized somewhat, we can only imagine the amount of violence that would have ensued if naomi klein had her way.
Well I would question then, what is our reason for going there the first place? Originally it was because of the spectre of fraudulant weapons. Then it was to bring democracy to the Iraqi people and fight terror (which came to Iraq because of our presence). Over 600 billion. If we had that money at our disposal why would we choose to give it to the people of Iraq rather than the people of America? It is that we care more for Iraqis? Or new capitalist markets in the Middle East? Which is it?
And, thinking of Iraq as a beacon of democracy in the hornet's nest of the Mid-East, wouldn't it be logical to think that they will be inevitably destroyed because of their proximity to terrorist groups who hate the foreign policies, past and present, of the Western world? They have been killing each other for millenia because of the various orthodoxies and peversions of their respective religions. The terrorists hatred for the West is so deep-rooted that they will destroy capitalist democracy.
well that's your prejudice, I have lived in Iraq and they're not as hostile toward democracy as you seem to think. They were however saddled with a corrupt, gangster-government who committed enough atrocity to keep them at each other's throats for awhile. Iraqis can come together and have in the past, if only to fight off Iran. I know many Iraqis and some of them make me more optomistic than the usual nihlistic armchair hypothesizer.
Nihilistic. No, man. I believe in mankind, though he will screw himself again and again. Yes, you did meet Iraqis, and I bet that you have a much bigger bank account for it (I have that option too but I don't want to participate in the free-for-all of exorbitant (because of danger!) US contracts over there (and speaking of that- do you see the naked ugliness of what is happening in Iraq? How many government contracts are there now? Is capitalism our greatest export, really?) Iran = diplomacy.
Again, who gives a shit about Iraq? Are your parents Iraqi? Are you? What about goddamn Africa? Darfur? Does our future as a country rely on the safety of Iraq? I'm pretty sure that our only interest is the oil in that region... had we put 600 billion into alternate fuel research the West would forget meddling in the M.E. If we had no financial interest in that region WE wouldn't be there. Nature of the market... So, we're the good guys. We get to have all of the weapons. Is that what you mean?
If your response is, "Well, we bring Democracy and peace to the world", maybe you Should read Naomi Klein's book "Shock Doctrine". Don't get me wrong, I'm not against America, it represents the best that good men have been able to achieve, I'm against the men and policies that are desecrating the purity of America. But also, inhumane policies too. It's all about developing new markets. Capitalism. Like Communism, it requires a purity of man. But this will never come to be.
So, following that, any argument you make about being in dangerous regions like that will be foolish to me... we are there to create a new capitalist democracy (that we'll be able to warp and later abuse). Since you were in Iraq, what were you doing there? Putting your safety on the line to further the cause of a democratic Iraq. Spreading peace and love? Or was it something more selfish. Were you in the Peace Corp when you went there? Did you get (well) paid? Don't fool yourself.

Iraq has never really come together on their own. Death was there for the ones that didn't get along.
Iraqis are stupid and need to be told what to do. They also need to be punished like children if they don't do what they are supposed to do.
We need to get rid of every one of them that's over the age of 10, and raise the children to be smart and civilized. That's the only way the middle east will be like us.
I love American Satire. How about writing a book? "American Peace - How to make the whole world become like the USA". Just the details, 5 times a day. Maybe you want to add drawings of the Concentration Camps for those over 10 Years? Can't wait.
Just a few reasons Iraq has "never come together on their own": support for the brutal tyrant Saddam Hussein when it suited the West; a brutal air war in 1991 that destroyed much of its civilian infrastructure; subsequent sanctions imposed by the United States through the UN that resulted in hundreds of thousands of deaths. Shall I go on?
It was more a rhetorical question, because of course you know perfectly well what the United States has done to Iraq. Not that you have any problem at all with any of it, given that you think that Iraqis deserve to be massacred. You're just another cowardly, morally barren chicken hawk with a predilection for necrophilia. If anything, it's people like you who should be gotten rid of.
Yeah, I'm not the one who thinks that all Iraqis over 10 should be murdered, you sick fuck. Maybe it's worse that you were over there (in which case the real tragedy is that you survived. I'd much sooner shake the hand of the insurgent who might have ended your worthless existence than to shake the hand of someone who proudly invades other people's countries); sociopaths like you shouldn't be in charge of anything more powerful than a lawnmower.
Iraqis are our brothers. One day history will show how much the media has lied to you absolutely. And you will be ashamed and deeply sad and bury yourself in tears over what was done to brothers and sisters who are the same as you and I, but for now, you continue to believe a holographic illusion and are not in touch with reality whatsoever. The truth is, our brothers and sisters are being murdered by mad sadistic psychopathic tyrants that make Saddam Hussein look like a pussy cat.
I know Iraqis are our brothers, which is why I've condemned the war in no uncertain terms.
"And you will be ashamed and deeply sad and bury yourself in tears over what was done to brothers and sisters who are the same as you and I"
Actually, it's already caused me a lot of heartache and anxiety. I'm currently reading "War without end". Don't think you've got the moral high ground just because you believe that the most pressing issue facing the world is getting flouride out of the water system.
"The truth is, our brothers and sisters are being murdered by mad sadistic psychopathic tyrants that make Saddam Hussein look like a pussy cat."
Actually, they're neither sadistic nor psychopathic. By focusing on personality, you're sidestepping the real issues at a very fundamental level. The truth is actually much worse than a few psychopaths running the show. I actually wish that the problem was so trivial, but it isn't.
way before 1978 Çadame espoused -Nasserite- secular PanArabism...the fight for democracy dates back to, say...the Nixon era. DoD's intra/interforce configuration towards an election-sensitive decommissioning is a magnificently ambitious but, rather misleading, inference.
I'm gonna take a quick stab at this folks. This AriesLudzik dude, who says it's about time you Muslim animals are slaughtered, who says that thankfully print is dying, who calls people twats, cunts, cretins and liars is one twisted angry loser with a chip on his shoulder the size of a car. You always get such venomous and hateful anti-left wing/socialist crap from the dubiously angry and bitter. I would guess that this guy has genuine social problems too.
Glad you like liars. She is a con woman and snake-oil salesman of the highest order and your uncritical little mind goes along with her propaganda. Klein not only fed you a plate full of shit but also has you asking for seconds.
Liars? No one lies like "Israel" and her bought and sold Nazis with a hexagram star, triple A rated for any dipshit who'd sell his soul for the defense of. All to get some old bucks from syndicates of blood money. Go bulldoze people's houses for strip malls and cheap industrial parks of prefab souls and low quality living standards. The stuff of the NeoCon "right". Israel and her big suckoff toy, the U.S. both sit like two old fatbitches on a fleabitten couch. Yet,Little Israel has the dildo on
Listen Osama, you are a dirty, hateful little Muslim. You're just like your homo lord Mohammed, eh. You savage Muslims are gonna pay for all your terrorism around the world. There is a Muslim holocaust going on right now and I couldn't be happier ! Congress is already talking about attacking Mecca - it's only a matter of time, you filthy animal. You're gonna die a painful death.
Dude/Dudette, keep your fascist bullshit to yourself; you're only making yourself look more like a neocon Brownshirt/Blackshirt with every succeeding word out of your mouth. Better yet, stop watching Faux News: it's making you bend your head between your to drink your own urine.
How fitting that your name happens to be Neville, you fucking yellowbelly coward. All you're good for is slithering on your belly to Saddam and sucking his dick, you left-wing Olberdufus. Go die, you scum-sucking leftist shit and keep sucking up to dictators.
Oh my, I made a positive comment about Ms. Klein, and this Faux News propaganda victim is cyberly attacking me! Oh well, jerkoff is what jerkoff does. Go back to sleep and keep your mind closed.
The amazing fact that Bushwanger and the gangbangers solidified is a Constitution that makes Shari'a the overriding factor to any clause or directive that contradicts it. We have an extension of Shi'a and a nation that resembles Saudi Arabia moreso, albeit in a covert manner. The irony is is that you had more freedom and secularism in many ways under Saddaam Hussein than this hidden compromise. The whole "war" is a ruse and a creation of another Oil Republic.
"Muslim Animals"??? The irony behind a statement like that is that a warped Zionazi, which by the way, is a chief subhumanoid state only mindworm could convince a person to surrender to, is the Nazi of today. IRONY. The oil is being taken and sold. That is why Halliburton, a genius servant to BigOil as transporter is there with all of her phoneyass private security ops. "When will the US take the oil?" Her Brits are there BP and so is just about everyone else, dumbass. Man are you a dumbass.

what a dumb little twat ! She has been exposed as an heiress who has never worked a day in her life - has had everything handed to her on a silver platter.
a dumb little twat? lying cunt? Naomi klein is one of the most intelligent, well-informed and articulate left-field commentators in the world. I guess from your use of the words "twat" and "cunt" that you are deeply sexist, and on top of that a fucking redneck moron who is incapable of questioning the world around him.(Oh, and I'm pretty sure you didn't understand most of what she was saying anyway)
It's funny how you didn't object to the part about her being an heiress(just like Bush) and privileged. Hmm.
Anyway, I thought I'd take this time to point out that Klein had her book 'No Logo' published by a multinational corporation. So I guess I left out calling her a huge hypocrite.
Oh man. you sound like some cynical grumpy teenager. it's almost impossible to not have some connection to a multi national these days(especially if you're in print) my main objection was your use of two of the most offensive words in the english language, just because she's a woman and not from a working class background? have you even read No logo?
Print is thankfully dying a quick death. The #1 vehicle of left-wing propaganda is on going the way of the dinosaur, so it will be harder for you to brainwash people with your filth and unending pack of lies. The New York Times is sinking like a rock(share price, market capital, circulation are all dramatically down) and along with it, your socialist message is dying.
So is the United States. "The U.S. is blessed because she supports G-d's nation, Israel." Thunders the fundamentalist patriot pulpiteer. While our credit happy buy now, shred later, figures on a screen world of bullshit blows up in our face, courtesy of the same kind of kinky politics that tells us "we've never had it so good." The socialist did die. The NeoCon message has now taken us to financial disaster. We are off the hook. You are hanging on one. Reaganomics, credit lies, etc.=war/failure.
What financial disaster, dufus ? The U.S. is the richest country in the world and you're just jealous because your Islamic camel jockey brethren are living in a desert shithole where 99.9% of people are embarrassingly dirt poor except for a handful of sultans. Americans are laughing while most of the rest of the world is busy sharing a waterhole with a wildebeest. You should thank conservatives for paying the taxes that support you, you piece of shit.
It figures that you wouldn't have been informed of the recession that we are currently in because of the decline of print media, a condition that you greatly applaud. Instead you watch Fox News which tells you that everything is great and that the whole country is "united in joy." You should keep your delusions to yourself.
Hmm, who have YOU been listening to, you menopausal shrew ? MSNBC ? GDP is soaring, the DOW is over 12,000, unemployment is down and is the lowest in the western industrialized world(France, eat your heart out).
Go bury your head in the sand while listening to some inspirational sermons from Jeremiah Wright.
Yes, bomb sales (payed by US taxpayers) are soaring, the mercenary business is energized, the prostetics industry is booming, the prison industry is expanding, Big Oil is squeezing record profits from consumers, yeha
"unemployment is down"
Yes, all the people working at McDonalds and WalMart are employed! (so are malasian sweat shop slave labor), start a forced labor program in FEMA detention camps and there'll be 0% unemployment!
Menopausal shrew? That's the best insult that you can come up with, you neo-con chickenhawk warmongering sheep? It seems that all you know how to do is bend your head between your legs and drink your own urine-because that's what watching Faux News has caused you to do.
You are as dumb as Michael Moore is fat, you no-good, filthy left wing dirtbag. I hope a giant truck crushes you, you puny, spineless, liberal maggot. You have no brain matter in your cowardly soul, you left-wing gargoyle. Do the world a favour and hang yourself like your pal Saddam, you piece of shit !
A more useless piece of mindless shit just spoke her name is AriesLugfuck. A rightwing dipshit of the typical neosmegma brainlessness with a Bohemian Grove strapon up their ass is AriesLugnut. How's that? Just a dose of your own type of idiocy. Except mine is more truthful.
Pretty sad whenever a 56-year old exhibits the IQ of an artichoke. No wonder you need the government in your life to prop you up - you could never make it in this world on your own. Go croak you pathetic failure !
Do you think before you write? I suggest you go get a passport & visit some countries like Switzerland, Norway, Sweden etc before you write a lot of misleading nonsense about richest countries. There happens to be rather a lot of USA citizens to share your enormous wealth with & most of it is not being shared but going to Bush's family & friends. That's why you have so much poverty.
It's important to mention that she talks about her own hypocrisy in "No Logo", how Random House is owned by one of the companies she spends some time attacking, Bertelsmann. She then takes that opportunity to point out that not all is lost and that "there is clearly still room for corpoate critiques within the media giants". This small hypocrisy of hers is of course debatable, but at least she is willing to mention it rather than sweep it under the rug. She ain't perfect, but she ain't a liar.
Yepper. That's the reason why he's pissed. He likes the kind of woman that has a yellow magnet on her car and a brain that is about as equal in depth and range of perception.
It takes work to do what she does, and it is good work, whether she is an heiress or not. What do you do? Micro-manage in some backbiting up the dork korporate shithole?

Why we keep listening to the author of No Logo to learn about why Iraqis vote the way they do is beyond me. Can't we get some actual experts to interview?
jupiterjjrm, attacking Gore on the premise that he's picked one battle out of many that need to be fought, is like saying some politician isn't really fighting crime because he's not constantly talking about EVERY TYPE of crime.
Gore has credibility on GW, and he's applying his energy to that issue. What's wrong with that? Are you not a patriotic American, if you are not in Iraq fighting???
IF the globe is warming, humans will not stop it - in fact, according to a computer simulation using past human interventions, they will make it worse.
No, we cannot stop Global Warming. All we can do is prepare for it. The idea is to preserve life on this Earth as long as we can, by doing as little as possible of the things that might speed up the destruction of the life support system....good air, fresh water, good soil (and seeds)for food production.
Very interesting comment. If you had asked me if I believed THE science, I would have said no, for it is full of errors and bias. But you asked me if I believe in science. Is that a new religion? Am I a heretic for saying no?
Don't play me for an idiot. Science is a PROCESS, a process that settles on the best interpretation of tested facts. The facts now tell us that global warming is real, is largely caused by us, and is due to become much worse if we don't change our wasteful energy habits post haste.
If you don't believe "THE science," you are deluded, plain and simple. Best get on some wack-wing board and complain about the fake moon landings, too.
No, modern science has an entirely new dimension - to be crude but concise, it whores itself to whoever is paying. What answers do you want, and what are you paying? Critics are treated like heretics and branded 'deniers' or the like. Delude yourself if you want to, but spare me the crap about 'process'
Ah, the gloves come off...That's the dynamic that leads you to doubt the science, but it really only appears in context of energy companies paying for a wave of climate change denial.
The PROCESS of science polices itself over time, and it's weeding out the junk climate science, just as it's pointing up the unreliability of studies paid for by Big Pharma. Hang out on Science Daily for a while, and you'll see both sides talking, which is the PROCESS.
I'm not agin' ya, bro, but you're falling for a tired Pol-Comm propaganda trick. The idea is to take one of your own failings (ie, spinning sci studies) and present it as your opponent's failing.
People used to our high-energy, high-waste lifestyle would rather believe it can continue, and jump on the idea that the "enemy" is slanting things, forgetting to apply the same scrutiny to the sources of the info they prefer.
I mean, by your own measure, the worst offenders would have to be those who 1) have the most to lose from real energy change, and 2) have the most money to throw at the "problem", and 3) have the least tradition of objective morality, that would tend to damp their psuedo-science meddling.
That doesn't describe the UN, the Nat Sci Counsel, or NOAH.
McCarthyism: A witch-hunt for anyone with "commie" sympathies, with the aim of cutting those diseased organs out of the body politic (and -commercial).
UNIPCC: A gathering of scientists to evaluate the science of climate change and pass on recommendations to policy makers.
McCarthyism was run by paranoids, on wild theories of omniscient commy plots.
Seems to me, the "McCarthyists" in your comparative frame would be the climate deniers, who are crying wolf about an imaginary downside to taking steps to handle the crisis.
I have to ask: why are the oil companies playing both sides of this? They run ads touting how "green" and concerned about climate change they are, and at the same time pay for the junk science that they want you to think discounts the real science of global warming.
I wouldn't deny global warming, but there are studies showing extra CO2 as a consequence of GW during the past 500 000 years. Energy saving is wise, but using that to justify increase in your utility bills is cruel towards low-income homes.
Check out clips of Al Gore demanding a CARBON TAX worldwide and an international organism to manage the revenues. Also, why no-one talks about water poisoning, pesticides, fluoridation, additives, negative effects of GMOs observed in cows ...? If no-one funds or advertises this research, it gets marginalised or abandoned. Hence the subjectivity of today's science.
What I mean is, Al Gore is a brand-new, self-styled GW apostle, but definitely not an environmentalist. If he really were, he'd be attacking Monsanto right now, alerting against fluoridation or Aspartame, or Prozac (so many rivers are crammed-full of drug metabolites).
Clinton's govt started pushing laws that screwed the environment - are Al Gore and Clinton "green converts"? The IPCC is based upon computer simulation including too few data. If only these theses are PUBLICISED (keyword), then obviously the public view gets twisted.
As a scientist I must say that, sadly, the example of the pharmaceutical industry contradicts you. If there are vested interests then research policies are not chosen according to science but to economic interests. That's why alternative medicine is being marginalised (dietary supplements): they want to hook us up to drugs, that's how they increase their profits.
That's exactly her point: that it's not new. Her point is that free market fundamentalists have singlemindedly been using that fact to further their agenda for thirty-plus years now. It's now one of their standard tricks. Look how bungled the responce to Katrina was. She's saying that it WASN'T bungled: nature just played into the market jihadist's hands! They further their agenda just by being incompetent. What could be easier?
Naomi hasn't discovered anything new - people take advantage of disasters and the tribulations of their fellow humans. Who knew? What a surprise! What Naomi then does is blame it on capitalists, a perennial favourite amongst the leftist youngsters. Might as well blame Al Gore for manufacturing a crisis from the environment for his own ends. Sayyy . . . ?!!
No, Nobel prizes went down considerably in my estimation when Yassir Arafat shared the "peace" prize in 1994. Awarding the prize to Al Gore and the IPCC is not only just as repugnant, it has nothing to do with "peace" - Nobel must be turning in his grave.
Awarding the Nobel to Gore has EVERYTHING to do with peace, but your acceptance of that depends on whether you believe in science or not.
If climates change dramatically, the first casualty will be world peace, as populations try to get away from encroaching desertification, and get access to dwindling water.
The only way to prevent that is to take FAST action on global warming.
A totalitarian global police state using blaming the fact that every planet in the solar system is warming on OUR CO2 emissions, and using that LIE to further a predatory globalist agenda WOULD LEAD to no more war. You're right. There's nothing safer than a worldwide authoritarian police state turning off ppl's RFID chips.
"Al Gore for manufacturing a crisis from the environment for his own ends. Sayyy . . . ?!!"
i would tend to agree, he's as much of an elitist as any of them. he doesn't care about the environment. who are you kidding. its another distraction. there is so much criminality in the gov. but somehow the most important thing is global warming? I don't think so.
While I think most of your post is somewhat true and at least a different view. Are you funded by corporations? The ones that benefit from war? Please, does anyone know?
I think its more than just a little bit ironic that she condemns corporations and the corporate elites but she and Democracy now are funded by the Charitable arm of large corporate interests.
She also praises the Scandinavian model but in 1992 Sweden privatized their schools through fair and democratic means. It did not lead to a fascist state like she contents
Visual is not just television or internet - those are what most of us have, and they are important, but if we could stand near the speaker we would catch more visual cues - deliberate or not - rather than less. The only challenge is to understand and use the medium, just as powerful speakers have always understood crowds, timing and rhetoric.
I think a lot of 'corporate elites' make more money when things are peaceful and quiet . . . in fact, I'd wager that, by far, the majority do. Naomi is selling books; she is good at that, I'll admit.
Seems when there's a war a lot of bullets, vest, machinery, chemicals, vents, shoes, guns, caskets, flags etc are being made. Bullets are made in China. Much of the rest is probably also made in China. While Americans dies for oil other countries benefit from the replacement of supplies.
Thanks, Amy, for pointing out that war is a big pot of money for well-connected corporate elites. Wish my taxes weren't going into their pockets ... or should I say I wish my children weren't going to pay the bill as the national debt goes through the roof?
The only thing we Americans can do is NEVER, EVER vote for another Rep or Dem. They don't give a damned what happens to your children or your family. They just want to get re-elected. Congress makes the law and Presidents carry them out. Without funding the war would ahve to end but the RIGHT people are getting rich and we are having rights taken.
Your campaign financing rules must be changed, but that is like asking the pigs at the trough to limit their diet. A third or even fourth option would be welcome.
Tomnunn07: Is right on the button - We are very visual and the use of images to create perception is a very powerful marketing tool. Oh, yes the people funding her and CCPA are selling and I'm not buying it. This former progressive democrate is voting RON PAUL - because a principled leader does not need perception tools.
I see your point but have no doubt that once the Ron Paul campaign reaches a critical mass and his candidacy becomes really achievable, the marketing gurus will take over and polish the RP image. It is an unfortunate state of affairs, but RP will have to succumb to an image machine if he stands any chance at all.
Nuday, I agree with you about Amy Goodman. She's not what I would call beautiful, but she's pleasant-looking, and more importantly, honest and intelligent.
Examples of what I mean by cold and snide would be Gloria Steinem, Laura Schlessinger, and Gloria Allred. Naomi Klein, by contrast, appears warm, friendly, and outgoing. Her aura is noticeably different from that of the others.
Nuday, what Aaryn doesn't understand is that Marshall McLuhan was right when he said "the medium is the message." What one looks like, how one "acts," little things like gestures and smiles mean a LOT on TV; it's what people experience. Look at some of the Democrats running for president. Edwards and Obama look good on the tube, like they're viable contenders, whereas Dennis Kucinich (whom I like) seems smaller and less "presidential". TV has a way of accentuating this stature gap.
It shouldn't be so and it doesn't have to be. Why let the media control your choices. Slim it down so it's basiocally all the same clones. You're aware of it even so why would you let yourself fall to it?
I never equated "what is" with "what ought to be." I was trying to explain the phenomenon of television, of all visual media for that matter. Marshall McLuhan's point is correct, I think: different media create different structures of feeling and thought. It's why America prefers a Bill Clinton to a Jerry Brown, or a smiling hypocrite like Hillary Clinton to someone more austere like Dennis Kucinich.
Very good point, Nuday. Turn on the TV and watch any news network, and you see smiling babes serving the interests of corporations. How different, indeed, to see someone like Klein pouring her talents out in a totally different direction.
FINALLY! An intelligent economist speaks! One who isn't a dumbass anti-socialist fanatic. Great job, Ms Klein!

The graphic sense one gets is that this is the combat frontispiece of decades of dumbed down mutants. The "wonderful soldiers", aka the same mentality of the 3rd Reich's "I was only following orders" mentality. Which of course is all part of the corporatocracy consciounsness. A cockroach mentality.

kappra 3 years ago
I called her a name? nope. Congratulations on the straw man, thought you'd catch it after trying to call me out on another logical fallacy. The Iraqi elections are different from american elections. people in Iraq are far more likely to vote upon sectarian lines. Elections matter. No matter what naomi klein says. There is a timetable on the table now. now that the nation has stablilized somewhat, we can only imagine the amount of violence that would have ensued if naomi klein had her way.
cruzander 3 years ago
Well I would question then, what is our reason for going there the first place? Originally it was because of the spectre of fraudulant weapons. Then it was to bring democracy to the Iraqi people and fight terror (which came to Iraq because of our presence). Over 600 billion. If we had that money at our disposal why would we choose to give it to the people of Iraq rather than the people of America? It is that we care more for Iraqis? Or new capitalist markets in the Middle East? Which is it?
gorgorybmus 3 years ago
And, thinking of Iraq as a beacon of democracy in the hornet's nest of the Mid-East, wouldn't it be logical to think that they will be inevitably destroyed because of their proximity to terrorist groups who hate the foreign policies, past and present, of the Western world? They have been killing each other for millenia because of the various orthodoxies and peversions of their respective religions. The terrorists hatred for the West is so deep-rooted that they will destroy capitalist democracy.
gorgorybmus 3 years ago
well that's your prejudice, I have lived in Iraq and they're not as hostile toward democracy as you seem to think. They were however saddled with a corrupt, gangster-government who committed enough atrocity to keep them at each other's throats for awhile. Iraqis can come together and have in the past, if only to fight off Iran. I know many Iraqis and some of them make me more optomistic than the usual nihlistic armchair hypothesizer.
cruzander 3 years ago
Nihilistic. Is capitalism our greatest export, really?) Iran = diplomacy.
gorgorybmus 3 years ago
and does Iran = diplomacy when they're warring on Iraq, Taking American diplomats hostage or building nuclear weapons?
cruzander 3 years ago
Again, who gives a shit about Iraq? Are your parents Iraqi? Are you? What about goddamn Africa? Darfur? Does our future as a country rely on the safety of Iraq? I'm pretty sure that our only interest is the oil in that region... had we put 600 billion into alternate fuel research the West would forget meddling in the M.E. If we had no financial interest in that region WE wouldn't be there. Nature of the market... So, we're the good guys. We get to have all of the weapons. Is that what you mean?
gorgorybmus 3 years ago
If your response is, "Well, we bring Democracy and peace to the world", maybe you Should read Naomi Klein's book "Shock Doctrine". Don't get me wrong, I'm not against America, it represents the best that good men have been able to achieve, I'm against the men and policies that are desecrating the purity of America. But also, inhumane policies too. It's all about developing new markets. Capitalism. Like Communism, it requires a purity of man. But this will never come to be.
gorgorybmus 3 years ago

StraightUneerie 3 years ago
Just a few reasons Iraq has "never come together on their own": support for the brutal tyrant Saddam Hussein when it suited the West; a brutal air war in 1991 that destroyed much of its civilian infrastructure; subsequent sanctions imposed by the United States through the UN that resulted in hundreds of thousands of deaths. Shall I go on?
cayetanoluis 3 years ago
Yes, go on. I would love to hear.
DrewDawg50 3 years ago
It was more a rhetorical question, because of course you know perfectly well what the United States has done to Iraq. Not that you have any problem at all with any of it, given that you think that Iraqis deserve to be massacred. You're just another cowardly, morally barren chicken hawk with a predilection for necrophilia. If anything, it's people like you who should be gotten rid of.

She ain't perfect, but she ain't a liar.

jupiterjjrm, attacking Gore on the premise that he's picked one battle out of many that need to be fought, is like saying some politician isn't really fighting crime because he's not constantly talking about EVERY TYPE of crime.
Gore has credibility on GW, and he's applying his energy to that issue. What's wrong with that? Are you not a patriotic American, if you are not in Iraq fighting???

IF the globe is warming, humans will not stop it - in fact, according to a computer simulation using past human interventions, they will make it worse.
wentwirth 4 years ago
No, we cannot stop Global Warming. All we can do is prepare for it. The idea is to preserve life on this Earth as long as we can, by doing as little as possible of the things that might speed up the destruction of the life support system....good air, fresh water, good soil (and seeds)for food production.

Very interesting comment. If you had asked me if I believed THE science, I would have said no, for it is full of errors and bias. But you asked me if I believe in science. Is that a new religion? Am I a heretic for saying no?
wentwirth 4 years ago
Don't play me for an idiot. Science is a PROCESS, a process that settles on the best interpretation of tested facts. The facts now tell us that global warming is real, is largely caused by us, and is due to become much worse if we don't change our wasteful energy habits post haste.
If you don't believe "THE science," you are deluded, plain and simple. Best get on some wack-wing board and complain about the fake moon landings, too.
bozobonobo 4 years ago
No, modern science has an entirely new dimension - to be crude but concise, it whores itself to whoever is paying. What answers do you want, and what are you paying? Critics are treated like heretics and branded 'deniers' or the like. Delude yourself if you want to, but spare me the crap about 'process'
wentwirth 4 years ago
Ah, the gloves come off...That's the dynamic that leads you to doubt the science, but it really only appears in context of energy companies paying for a wave of climate change denial.
The PROCESS of science polices itself over time, and it's weeding out the junk climate science, just as it's pointing up the unreliability of studies paid for by Big Pharma. Hang out on Science Daily for a while, and you'll see both sides talking, which is the PROCESS.
bozobonobo 4 years ago
I'm not agin' ya, bro, but you're falling for a tired Pol-Comm propaganda trick. The idea is to take one of your own failings (ie, spinning sci studies) and present it as your opponent's failing.
People used to our high-energy, high-waste lifestyle would rather believe it can continue, and jump on the idea that the "enemy" is slanting things, forgetting to apply the same scrutiny to the sources of the info they prefer.
Read the actual science, Bro!
bozobonobo 4 years ago
I mean, by your own measure, the worst offenders would have to be those who 1) have the most to lose from real energy change, and 2) have the most money to throw at the "problem", and 3) have the least tradition of objective morality, that would tend to damp their psuedo-science meddling.
That doesn't describe the UN, the Nat Sci Counsel, or NOAH.
It describes the oil companies!
bozobonobo 4 years ago
The "process" the current United Nations-driven climate science is most similar to is McCarthyism.
wentwirth 4 years ago 3
Okay, let's screen that for accuracy:
McCarthyism: A witch-hunt for anyone with "commie" sympathies, with the aim of cutting those diseased organs out of the body politic (and -commercial).
UNIPCC: A gathering of scientists to evaluate the science of climate change and pass on recommendations to policy makers.
McCarthyism was run by paranoids, on wild theories of omniscient commy plots.
bozobonobo 4 years ago
Seems to me, the "McCarthyists" in your comparative frame would be the climate deniers, who are crying wolf about an imaginary downside to taking steps to handle the crisis.
I have to ask: why are the oil companies playing both sides of this? They run ads touting how "green" and concerned about climate change they are, and at the same time pay for the junk science that they want you to think discounts the real science of global warming.
So: which is it?
bozobonobo 4 years ago
I wouldn't deny global warming, but there are studies showing extra CO2 as a consequence of GW during the past 500 000 years. Energy saving is wise, but using that to justify increase in your utility bills is cruel towards low-income homes.
jupiterjjrm 4 years ago
Check out clips of Al Gore demanding a CARBON TAX worldwide and an international organism to manage the revenues. Also, why no-one talks about water poisoning, pesticides, fluoridation, additives, negative effects of GMOs observed in cows ...? If no-one funds or advertises this research, it gets marginalised or abandoned. Hence the subjectivity of today's science.
jupiterjjrm 4 years ago
What I mean is, Al Gore is a brand-new, self-styled GW apostle, but definitely not an environmentalist. If he really were, he'd be attacking Monsanto right now, alerting against fluoridation or Aspartame, or Prozac (so many rivers are crammed-full of drug metabolites).
jupiterjjrm 4 years ago
Clinton's govt started pushing laws that screwed the environment - are Al Gore and Clinton "green converts"? The IPCC is based upon computer simulation including too few data. If only these theses are PUBLICISED (keyword), then obviously the public view gets twisted.
jupiterjjrm 4 years ago
As a scientist I must say that, sadly, the example of the pharmaceutical industry contradicts you. If there are vested interests then research policies are not chosen according to science but to economic interests. That's why alternative medicine is being marginalised (dietary supplements): they want to hook us up to drugs, that's how they increase their profits.
jupiterjjrm 4 years ago
That's exactly her point: that it's not new. Her point is that free market fundamentalists have singlemindedly been using that fact to further their agenda for thirty-plus years now. It's now one of their standard tricks. Look how bungled the responce to Katrina was. She's saying that it WASN'T bungled: nature just played into the market jihadist's hands! They further their agenda just by being incompetent. What could be easier?
bozobonobo 4 years ago
Naomi hasn't discovered anything new - people take advantage of disasters and the tribulations of their fellow humans. Who knew? What a surprise! What Naomi then does is blame it on capitalists, a perennial favourite amongst the leftist youngsters. Might as well blame Al Gore for manufacturing a crisis from the environment for his own ends. Sayyy . . . ?!!
wentwirth 4 years ago
Nobel prizes don't make much of an impression on you, do they? Bet you think the UN is a terrorist org, too. Nuke the Whales.
Comments typical of a TV addict; and dare I guess which faux news channel is on at your house?
Don't look now, but you're programmed, sucker.
bozobonobo 4 years ago
No, Nobel prizes went down considerably in my estimation when Yassir Arafat shared the "peace" prize in 1994. Awarding the prize to Al Gore and the IPCC is not only just as repugnant, it has nothing to do with "peace" - Nobel must be turning in his grave.
wentwirth 4 years ago
Awarding the Nobel to Gore has EVERYTHING to do with peace, but your acceptance of that depends on whether you believe in science or not.
If climates change dramatically, the first casualty will be world peace, as populations try to get away from encroaching desertification, and get access to dwindling water.
The only way to prevent that is to take FAST action on global warming.
bozobonobo 4 years ago
A totalitarian global police state using blaming the fact that every planet in the solar system is warming on OUR CO2 emissions, and using that LIE to further a predatory globalist agenda WOULD LEAD to no more war. You're right. There's nothing safer than a worldwide authoritarian police state turning off ppl's RFID chips.

umm actually the prize is totally political.

The only challenge is to understand and use the medium, just as powerful speakers have always understood crowds, timing and rhetoric.
wentwirth 4 years ago
I think a lot of 'corporate elites' make more money when things are peaceful and quiet . . . in fact, I'd wager that, by far, the majority do. Naomi is selling books; she is good at that, I'll admit.
wentwirth 4 years ago
Seems when there's a war a lot of bullets, vest, machinery, chemicals, vents, shoes, guns, caskets, flags etc are being made. Bullets are made in China. Much of the rest is probably also made in China. While Americans dies for oil other countries benefit from the replacement of supplies.
concerned00citizen 4 years ago
Thanks, Amy, for pointing out that war is a big pot of money for well-connected corporate elites. Wish my taxes weren't going into their pockets ... or should I say I wish my children weren't going to pay the bill as the national debt goes through the roof?
potterzebra 4 years ago
The only thing we Americans can do is NEVER, EVER vote for another Rep or Dem. They don't give a damned what happens to your children or your family. They just want to get re-elected. Congress makes the law and Presidents carry them out. Without funding the war would ahve to end but the RIGHT people are getting rich and we are having rights taken.
concerned00citizen 4 years ago 2
Your campaign financing rules must be changed, but that is like asking the pigs at the trough to limit their diet. A third or even fourth option would be welcome.

Tomnunn07: Is right on the button - We are very visual and the use of images to create perception is a very powerful marketing tool. Oh, yes the people funding her and CCPA are selling and I'm not buying it. This former progressive democrate is voting RON PAUL - because a principled leader does not need perception tools.
BeanGene 4 years ago

Her aura is noticeably different from that of the others.
tomnunn07 4 years ago 2
Nuday, what Aaryn doesn't understand is that Marshall McLuhan was right when he said "the medium is the message." What one looks like, how one "acts," little things like gestures and smiles mean a LOT on TV; it's what people experience. Look at some of the Democrats running for president. Edwards and Obama look good on the tube, like they're viable contenders, whereas Dennis Kucinich (whom I like) seems smaller and less "presidential". TV has a way of accentuating this stature gap.
tomnunn07 4 years ago 4
It shouldn't be so and it doesn't have to be. Why let the media control your choices. Slim it down so it's basiocally all the same clones. You're aware of it even so why would you let yourself fall to it?
weonk 4 years ago
I never equated "what is" with "what ought to be." I was trying to explain the phenomenon of television, of all visual media for that matter. Marshall McLuhan's point is correct, I think: different media create different structures of feeling and thought. It's why America prefers a Bill Clinton to a Jerry Brown, or a smiling hypocrite like Hillary Clinton to someone more austere like Dennis Kucinich.
tomnunn07 4 years ago
