This view shows why it is exceedingly STOOPID to cross the bow of a large vessel.If you cannot see the wheelhouse windows,they cannot see YOU.Even if you can see the windows,sometimes you are too small to be seen from them. Let's be careful out there.
At 1,013 feet, 6 inches long, the Paul R. Tregurtha is the largest boat on the Great Lakes. She comes to Duluth about once a week and almost always loads coal, usually for Detroit Edison power plants. She was built as the William J. Delancey in 1981 in Lorain, Ohio. She received her new name in the spring of 1990. Paul Tregurtha was born in 1935 and is an officer of the Interlake Steamship Company, the owner of the ship
@flargmuffin92 I asked a ship's captain about the thrusters and he told me they are only used at very low speeds for docking or for navigating very tight canals and rivers. They would not be used in the open water such as at Port Huron.
@chibichan1701 You mean the one RMS Titanic sucked under and spit out of her wheelwash when getting underay the first time with passngers aboard?Not an auspicious way to start to do that with paying customers watching.
@chibichan1701, it doesn't look like they're using thrusters. The ship is moving too fast, there's no wash on the port side of the bow and the way the ship is turning suggests that it's using rudder only.
You're right! This massive beauty has 1.0013 feet long, if I'm not mistaken! Try to upload a longer video with a salute from the ship in cause, it worths it to see and listen!

That thing is suprisingly maneuverable especially because it looks only slightly more hydrodinamic than brick.

@SkyyCaptainn, true. Can you have simpler hull lines than that?

For a ship roughly 200 feet longer than the Titanic..I'm amazed at how well it handles that turn!

If the Titanic has been fitted with side firing thrusters like this one undoubtedly is, things would have gone quite differently.

@chibichan1701 bow thrusters, good point

@chibichan1701 In the real world,bow thrusters weren't even a concept in 1912.

@doughesson Sure they were, just back then it was: "where's that bloody tugboat?!"

That is a superlarge bathtube without any designs at all and ugly.....

@onwheels62 Agreed. The "aesthetics" of the footers are, well, sadly lacking.
