  • This is one of the best Roberto Devereux final aria I have ever heard...!!!

    Brava Alexadrina...!!!

  • gott, ist die gut

  • Is it true Pendatchanska is planning to take up Salome?

  • @merefoix Salome, yes!!! May 2012 , Theater St Gallen

  • @nt7006036662 Are u going? I like nearby St Gallen, in Zurich, I guess I'll go to see her finally live.

  • @MrLupo23 I think he is her husband :D

  • @operamusicfan Oh... What a mess I am doing!! Are u also going operamusicfan? :D

  • @MrLupo23 No, I'm very far from Switzerland.

  • She is good and she can act!

  • Does somebody know where it was staged? And who was the director?

  • @FloriaTosca90 San Carlo Theatre, Naples and directed by Alberto Fassini (1998)

  • OMG! Every time I hear (and watch) this woman, I fall in love deeper and deeper with her voice. Brava Pendatchanska!!!

  • Ésta me gusta mas que su compañera Dimitra Theodossiou. Su linea de canto está más conseguida, aunque pienso que es un papel algo grande ,mas dramático para ella que es mas ligera...

  • I really rather hope she doesn't try Wagner, as some here are suggesting. Sure, Callas did, but only at the beginning of her career, after which she wisely kept away from him. Not many can do the big Wagner heroines without giving up some of their flexibility.

Watching this video, though, I find I would really like to see her tackle Bolena. That would be fabulous.

  • @90lysander Me too!! I would like to see her in Bolena and, again, in Devereux. :-))

  • Absolutely marvellous!

  • Breathtaking performance!

  • Ma che cosa há fatta con la sua voce stupenda?

Questa non é la voce della Pendachanska!

    Che delusione,...

Spero che prestissimo ritroverá di nuovo la sua bellissima voce...

    Spero.

  • To me this is one of the greatest performances EVER filmed and I do have many.

  • i like this set

  • Wow her voice is huge. She could sing Wagner if she wanted to. Anyone else agree?

  • @hibyeeee2 I think Wagner would be easy for her as he was for Callas

  • His problem is the surname. If she have a second name like Netrebko, other tale with her life.

  • Maravillosa!

  • Удивительный голос!!!!

  • HERE the WOBBLE at best. This happens to go out there to early without giving the voice to mature. Listen to Caballe and you will know what good singing is.

  • Hope La Scala will call her as soon as possible...

  • This role CAN NOT be sung better, more dramatic .... Miravigliosa !!!!!

  • Where is this recorded? I find it a little bit disturbing that there is so much echoing in the recording, shame, it is a really great voice! :D

  • 4:17 - 4:19 she smiles a bit......2 secs of unprofessionalness lol

  • L'actrice est fort belle, mais que la voix est poussée. Tous les aigus sont caricaturaux (surtout l'aigu final) tellement ils sont en surpression. Et ce vibratello sur l'ensemble de la voix, est-ce bien sain?

  • A very rare and exquisit voice! And what an acting! This is how this role is supposed to be performed. Someone has to make Gruberova watch this. Elizabeth I is not supposed to be mad, but dramatic!

  • I love this. At last some expression in the sininging. I've been missing this since Callas.

  • @dermotafan If only Callas ever recorded Quel Sangue :(

  • Really enjoyed this interpretation, she takes such risks, very exciting when a performer is willing to do this and 'burn up the stage' . We need more of this type out there we have enough of the pretty , safe voices.

  • She is quite good...what the hell is going on with all you??are you crazy??maybe you do not like her, but bad singing??where??

  • I don't understand the problem. She's very good. People are just not used to real dramatic coloraturas. Must be something wrong with their ears. I think she sounds a little like Joyce DiDonato here. Like the latter sound as Elisabetta in Maria Stuarda. :) Wonderful.

  • Exactly. There's this HERD or liric sopranos I cannot stand them anymore, they all sound the same.

Then we get a voice like that, rare...of course...dramtico coloratiras are rare...and then everybody is dissing her...probably they think NETREBKO is better! LOL

I'd love to hear her singing ARMIDA (Rossini)

  • @BetuliaLiberata You mean Pendatchanska or Netrebko sing Armida? :D

It would be totally hilarious to see Netrebko's Armida.

  • @Drelnis I mean Pendatchanska of course....but now that you mentioned...LOL

  • Um...this is really good...why all the bad comments? Her vibrato is a little fast, but I really think she sings well and it's very impressive.

  • Pendatchanska rules! Her performance is overwhelming.

  • I really don't understand all the negative comments for Pendatchanska ... coloraturas with voices of this amplitude are few and far between. Better enjoy her while she's still here!

  • Brava!

  • Amazing! Where was this performance? This is a voice to hear!

  • Stunning actress! The voice reminds me of Ghena Dimitrova. Hopefully, it's not the same case of pushing for dramatic effect that plagued her singing!

  • Ghena Dimitrova did not push. She had a naturally huge voice.

  • -middle voice well built allowing her beautiful legatti

    -interesting colorisation

    -decent acting

-what a fabulous instrument hers would have been if she didnt have this natural tremolo in the middle voice (very much like L Popp's in the high register)

    Nevertheless very decent performance

  • They did a DARN good job with makeup! She looks ancient! Lol. The voice is pushed, but what she does with it is shocking. She's awesome!

  • This is EPIC...she needs to be careful, but if she does, she could become the Diva opera has needed for so long...

  • I was pleasantly surprised, but who was the dreadful conductor?

  • her voice is pushed -yes but what a great actress!! We need more like this!!!!!!!

  • Wow, her voice has changed since the Cardiff competition...

  • I don't remember her sounding like this either.

  • Also note the Esclarmonde clip someone put up of her a while back... I remembered this being a lighter voice. Seems like a lot of "growth" for only a few years. To me, she sounds like she's pushing everything.

  • This is from 1998, the Escolarmonde is from 1992 (is it still posted on youtube?) I also have her mad scene from Hamlet posted, from 1994.

  • I think there were two clips of the Esclarmonde, but one remains. If you do a search for the opera title, you'll find it.

  • Yep. There was a clip from the final scene of Ermione too; I remember being impressed with the voice. This sounds...well...pushed beyond it's natural limits to me. I don't remember the vibrato being so intrusive either. THAT part almost reminds me of Meier (you know, kind of like there's so much tension up high that the vibrato becomes too fast...caprino is the only word I know for it, but I think that's usually applied to tenors).

  • Yes, I get your drift. Whether the term is typically applied to tenors only or not, it certainly would be applicable here.

  • like mesple?
