This may be blasphemy..... but i think Mary Travis sang every bit as well as Karen Carpenter (even if she didn't play the drums as well, lol!!). What a great pity that they never got together to make a duet album - imaging how immensely, insanely awesom THAT would have been!!!!!
Mary, You sang this at our wedding via a spectacular sound system. After the vows, people asked, "Who sang that song? I want to meet her." That's how this song was heard. What a presence! And at a truly remarkable day. You were the icing on the cake.
I'm a 43 year old man and I can't stop shedding tears every time I hear Mary sing!!! Whether alone or with Peter, Paul and Mary.. In today's music market comprised of attention seeking freaks, (Lady GaGa). Talent like this is rare, or simply overlooked. Thank God for the records Mary, they are your true legacy.....
she had a beutifull voice..all her music she ever recorded was beutifull and so nice..now in days music like hers is not nowhere 2 be heard and found at
C'est beau... je regrette que les jeunes d'aujourd'hui ne s'intéressent pas plus à ce genre de musique(je dis ça parce que je suis jeune), celle qui donne l'étrange impression de la connaître par coeur sans l'avoir jamais entendue...
This song brings back memories of being young and innocent. I remember singing it while still in high school. That was a long time and many memories ago. RIP Mary - you brought a smile to this 50 something women.
Amen! I am a 36 year old Boxer from Detroit and I am crying my eyes out like a little girl! She shouldn't have sufferd a day as much beauty she put into the world!
We cry together, my friend. They gave me hope and the will to go on when nothing waz right in my life...if that beauty could be created, then I knew it would be ok. I love them with all my heart, and I hug you, my friend...
On a Christmas special many years ago Mary said 'Blowing in the wind' was a song for all seasons. Her music is for all the ages.R.I.P. Mary Travers Thanks for the memories
Just lovely.Yes this music is not played on the radio much anymore. But I'm sure it gets played in peoples homes around the world.I for sure listen to it.
I just wanna cry but i'll hold my tears back.. :) Thanks Mary for Touching my life your an isperation you'll sadly be missed but Please say Hi to Puff the Magic Dragon for all of us...
I love that album too. I WISH I KNEW HOW It WOULD FEEL TO BE FREE. We played this at our wedding. Wow! People thought she was in the house; the sound system was that good. I went through a period of depression in the early 80's and believe I am alive because of this lady's voice, her choice of song, and the optimism I clung to in the darkness of my soul.
I too played the first post PPM "album", simply entitled "MARY" and OMG, I loose it especially with this song and her version of John Denver's Rhymes and Reasons" which she does better than him. Of course, she also sings his "Follow Me" more to even though I adored his music mastery as well. I cannot imagine this world sans her spirit of love, hope and passion. There will never be another Mary but her voice and unique melodies will be will be with us always! RIP my fav Greenwich sister!
well--I thought I was under control until I heard this and the tears are slow to stop flowing...Mary--you touched hundreds of lives and hearts....G-d Bless...thankyou.
So beautiful. Thank you for posting this great old song. We'll miss you, Mary! Right now, I'm pretty sure Puff is hiding in his cave and crying his heart out right now...and he's not alone.
Gosh this song makes me cry I miss Mary so much this song puts tears to my eyes because she sang it so beauiful Mary You will be sorly missed god bless you and thank you for singing this wonderful song god bless u..
Everyone around the world now the lyrics to all your songs. How many can say they have a music legacy still lasting after almost 50 years? May you never be forgotten!
I will follow you and John Denver and others to that place where peace and love abound and all our dreams are fulfilled!! Thank you for the music but also for your great spirit!!
Mary Travers brought us joy. A folk legend like John Denver and George Harrison and The Mamas and Papas. She used her music to deliver a message--never violence. We'll carry her memory.
