    witness statement

    criminal justice act 1967

    magistrates court act 1980

    magistrates courts rules 1981

    statement of ian cameron

    editor newsgathering

  • this statement

is true to the best of my knowledge and belief and I make it knowing that, if it is tendered in evidence

I shall be liable to prosecution if I have wilfully stated anything which I know to be false

or do not believe to be true

  • I am the above named person and live at the address overleaf.

I am employed by the british broadcasting corporation as

    editor, newsgathering.

just over 12 months ago following telephone conversations with the defendant, I arranged a meeting with myself and the defendant .

the meeting was held at the bbc offices whiteladies road bristol.

  • during this meeting the defendant expressed his concern over a video from a cctv camera in weston super mare.

the video tape showed an incident involving the defendant and a security guard from a tescos store. the cctv the defendant showed me was a third or fourth generation copy from the original. '...picardjunior...' was convinced that the cctv tape had tampered with by police officers

    from weston super mare.

  • during this meeting I explained to the defendant that I would require to view the first generation tape as the fourth was of poor quality.

also that the first generation tape would need to be analysed by an expert to check the tapes integrity.

the defendant did not really accept this advice.

on the 1st of february 1999 following a number of conversations I decided to send to the defendant a letter outlining our position.

a copy of this letter is produced in evidence as 2194 ic 2

  • on monday the 29th november I became aware that two separate telephone calls, intercepted by the telephonist in which a threat was made to break my legs with a baseball bat and that the defendant had threatened to attend the bbc building a whiteladies road in ten minutes time to kill me.

  • In the light of recent events and the fact that these phone calls are continuing from the defendant is concerning myself and my stall about their personal safety .

on monday 28th february 2000, I received a letter dated

thursday 24th february 2000 from the defendant this is now produced as item 2194/ic/2
