if he had dropped into the butterfly, he would have had nearly no side to side mobility, 99% of the time, that shots a fake, and they deak to one side or the other, if he dropped into the butterfly there, would have been the same as letting in a goal anyway, odds are it would have gone in.
its not the goalie that stops the goal in shootouts, or penalty shots, its if the player can score. al the power is in a lpayers hand.... altough goalies need to learn to poke more if u ask me.
The pokecheck can hardly be used in clutch situations these days, players are too good. When you do a pokecheck anything longer than maybe 2 feet in front of you, you open up your body, and take yourself out of postion.
In today's game, you can't afford to take yourself out from infront of the puck, thats why you don't see them from but goalies like turko.

@MurphGiovanni It's a lot more difficult to roof the puck when you're in tight. The objective on a penalty shot or shootout is to score; it doesn't matter how it's done. Huet didn't play his angle right or he wouldn't have had to move.

I think it's insulting to your team to not even attempt a save, Huet had no excuse to just watch it. It was proven that Olaf kolzig, past his prime might I add, literally has cat like reflexes. When goalies are as fast as a saying meant to exagerrate there's no excuse to sit and watch the shot.

I agree he can do what he want, even taking a slapshot. But if i was the goaltender, i would jump the player just like you see in baseball. I do agree that Huet should have attempt to stop it anyway. But i would have still run Vanek.

you do realize how fast the puck was shot right? it probably took what, a quarter of a second for it to make it from his stick to the back of the net? thats not a hole lot of time to react.
if he had dropped into the butterfly, he would have had nearly no side to side mobility, 99% of the time, that shots a fake, and they deak to one side or the other, if he dropped into the butterfly there, would have been the same as letting in a goal anyway, odds are it would have gone in.

The pokecheck can hardly be used in clutch situations these days, players are too good. When you do a pokecheck anything longer than maybe 2 feet in front of you, you open up your body, and take yourself out of postion.
In today's game, you can't afford to take yourself out from infront of the puck, thats why you don't see them from but goalies like turko.
