This was a very very underrated movie. There are two scenes in particular that get me choked up. Of course, the execution of Stauffenberg is very moving and sad, but the scene where Stauffenberg kisses his wife for the last time is also very very moving.
I saw this movie because I love and respect Bryan Singer - talented director. "Valkyrie" was ok but I didn't feel the atmosphere of that period in our history. "Enemy at the Gates" (2001) and "Black Book" (2006) were much better films. I actually enjoyed Tom Cruise's performance but he did not take the lead as strongly as he should have. His non-German accent was not an issue it was the strength that he displayed in his performance that was disappointing to many. The supporting cast was superb

The question of accents is often raised in this forum, but honestly I don't see why that should be important. In Germany foreign films are very rarely synchronized with any accents.

I don't think that we need lectures from Hollywood like these. It is arrogant and self-righteous to assume that we Germans are in need of strokes and backslapping. I think this film is made better for US-Americans with their onesided and selective view of Germany, a view which is energized by clichees, prejudices and stereotypes.
This was a very powerful film. It was filled with suspense , action , and emotion but to think that hitler came that close to death was crazy! This movie was so good that I saw it twice in the theatre and I now own it on dvd. great film!!

ahhh...that reminds me of a story my grandmother told me (she was an english nurse during WW2) about this one POW who was a german soldier. On the day of his 16th birthday, he was wounded, in a hospital in a foreign country, and he was crying for his mother. I mean, I'm 15, which means he would only be a few months older than I am. Anyway, that story simply broke my heart. It really makes me hate people who think things like "its good that so many nazi soldiers were killed"

They speak English but write in German. You can also sometimes hear officers and troops speaking german on the back. It would be great if all was in German.

It is because the dierector is translating the speech for us (well that is the effect) but that doesn't change what letters look like. Also people wouldnt of payed to see a movie they had to read subtitles at. But I do agree you should be able to watch it in german because I couldn't fiund a german language option in the language slection WHY!!!?

This movie was really good :) I loved it ... A lot of people didn't like it because they had no idea what was going on ... or because they refused to believe the truth of Hitler. Well you can't just ignore it. Stauffenberg is amazing and Tom Cruise was brilliant in it!

Of course Soviet Russia suffered very heavy losses by the Nazi invaders and the war. And its astonishing how strong the Soviet army was after Stalingrad when it pushed the Germans back to the West.
Why is the Soviet Russian reputation nevertheless not so good in the West? Because of Stalin and his terror regime with also many million innocent people killed. And the oppression of Eastern Europe after the war. The year 1989 was good for Europe!

Learn the history of the war better, buddy. The Germans began to retreat from Russia after the battle of Kursk, not Stalingrad. After the Battle of Kursk, they were retreating, and only suffered defeat.

Potentially dangerous people who might develop into "political monsters" - e.g Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot - live in all countries, only they usually don't get that power.
Intimidation, group pressure, opportunism and also an idealistic nationalism often hinders resistance to such monstrous regimes - all the higher is my respect for Stauffenberg and Tresckow.
Apart from such tragic times, the Russian-German relations were mostly good - and are again - see Kohl & Jelzin, Schröder & Putin ;-)

Of course the German patriots sorry, but they agreed on a truce with the Allies and the Russian wanted unconditional capitulation of the Germans. In the end, as is well known, and the Germans surrendered to the Russians. Who knows how and when to end the war if Hitler had died in 1944 and was entered into a truce with the Allies, who in such a situation would be advised not to Russia. Perhaps the Allies began a war with Russia ... A good movie. Well done.

The last words of the Catholic Stauffenberg were: "Long live our sacred Germany!" He refers to the "Holy Empire" (where Germany was the central part ) which lasted for many centuries and sustained Catholic Christiany in Europe. He wants to say these Christian values represent the true "sacred" Germany, and not the immoral ideology of the Nazis.

it was pretty good, its kinda like a not so factual history lesson if you don't like that kinda stuff then I recommend you don't watch it. still a very well made movie though :)

You obviously don't understand history.
Russia could not have pushed Germany back without the tons of American supplies they were using. More Germans were committed to fighting in Africa and Italy, which was less for the Russians to fight.
Then there's the whole Japanese Empire. WHICH WE FOUGHT SINGLEHANDEDLY!
America defeated Germany on three fronts. Defeated the Japanese alone. The war would have gone on much longer, with much different results, had America not intervened. Smart one.

Right on all points, except one....We stopped the Japs in New Guinea. The Americans may have been able to do that on their own, but their forces could not have been in place in time to keep them out of Port Moresby, and it's very defendable airfield.
Niether Britain nor Russia could have held out against the Nazis without the US's generous and efficient Lend-lease program.(Or the bravery of the Merchant seamen who deliverred the stuff.)

Finally, a good ww2 movie that focuses on Germany itself.. Im sick and tired of movies depicting germany as the root of all evil.. movies like defiance.. Depicting the killing of german soldiers while playing jewish wedding music in the backround was in such bad taste.. anyways this movie gets my vote.. awsome movie!!!

Yep I agree, I d'like to see a movie of a young German boy who has to break up his dreams and go to war in Russia. Showing how it was difficult and harsh for him when he has no choice. There is not enough movies about the Germans in ww2

ahhh...that reminds me of a story my grandmother told me (she was an english nurse during WW2) about this one POW who was a german soldier. On the day of his 16th birthday, he was wounded, in a hospital in a foreign country, and he was crying for his mother. I mean, I'm 15, which means he would only be a few months older than I am. Anyway, that story simply broke my heart. It really makes me hate people who think things like "its good that so many nazi soldiers were killed"
