I'm too lazy to read all the comments and I'm sure others have made it but just in case: with a life vest/floatation device, bulldogs can paddle and some learn to enjoy it. Otherwise, bulldog bones are too dense and they can't paddle fast enough to keep themselves afloat (even healthy weight ones). I think most bullies don't like water because instinct tells them it's dangerous.

I was just filling in my health and safety form and saw this. They are fanatical about water and they often drown the flat face type and the long legged type they swim out as far as they can go and they always drown. Flat faced also often get addicted to exhaust car fumes and die young.
@jlc767 mine did the same, I dove in with winter clothes on and got him out... then the little bastard dove back in and I had to go after him again. Greatest dog I've ever had though...
yea they don't swim well because its hard for them to breathe so some can't swim and some can't have collars on their neck like my english bull its so funny because when i first put a collar on her when i didin't know they can't have one she just sat on the same spot the whole time then when i yanked the collar a little she got crazy and attacked the collar its so funny.

haha i learned they couldnt swim the hard way. we were at the lake and he was sitting on the dock, long story short i kind of nudged em in with my foot...and well...he came up once, then sank like a brick...had to go in to get em! lol ever since then he would always wade into the water on his own and try to drink it all up, so that he could go deeper haha

@bplank Nice dog you got there. I've never owned an English bulldog before but they look like really funny dogs. I've heard they are the friendliest dog breed around XD. I have 2 staffys and they are kind of similar to EB's in some ways. They are stubby, they snort, and they are dumb lol. Anyway nice dog. Just make sure he doens't slip in the pool without a life jacket or he'll drown.

he wouldnt be able to do that for very long! they have such bad breathing through their nose that a minimal amount of excersise forces them to breathe out their mouth. but when swimming, they will inhale water. but he seems pretty determined! though i think mine would drown i doubt theyde even try to swim. hehe

You can get lifejacket's that have a bubble on the bottom to keep your dogs mouth above the water so they can breathe easy while they swim.
We've got one because we found out our English Bulldog likes the cool water in the hot Summer.

Many bulldog owners that have pools have had to do the jump in and rescue. It is odd
and scary because they just sink like a weight, no bouyancy at all. I never saw this
life vest your bully has on. One of my bullies loves the water but I have to watch her
like a hawk because she wants to get in with me, One of those vest would be awesome

Yes, they do require a lot of work from a healthcare standpoint. I would encourage you to read about the breed online.

@bplank Nice dog you got there. I've never owned an English bulldog before but they look like really funny dogs. I've heard they are the friendliest dog breed around XD. I have 2 staffys and they are kind of similar to EB's in some ways. They are stubby, they snort, and they are dumb lol. Anyway nice dog. Just make sure he doens't slip in the pool without a life jacket or he'll drown.

@bplank Im about to buy a puppy in october. and i read about all their health issues and other problems. but they are so adorable and funny. would say, bulldogs are dogs witch somebody could buy as his first dog?

i wouldnt put a bulldog in the water, they have the worse respatory problems in the canine kingdom

excellent comment! Bulldogs are not supposed to be near pools. They drown immediately because of their big heads and their nostrils can't handle the intake of water.

That is the cutest thing ever!! I have a Boston Terrier and he does not like to swim. Would love to see him do this. Thanks for sharing!

That is way cool. I miss my bullie...He didn't go near the water. I love the snorting while he is swimming back with the stick. He is a cutie..Bulldogs Rule !!

dont try to let yours swim unlessyou have a harness jacket like so, they will sink / or drown , they were deff notmeant for the wata

he wouldnt be able to do that for very long! they have such bad breathing through their nose that a minimal amount of excersise forces them to breathe out their mouth. but when swimming, they will inhale water. but he seems pretty determined! though i think mine would drown i doubt theyde even try to swim. hehe

he's a freak of a bulldog...he'll do a half dozen laps no problem, but our other bullie won't go near the pool
