Why didn't you ever say my name? I watched you for years - why didn't you ever say my name? Huh? HUH? MY NAME'S DEVIN! SAY IT, BITCH!! DEVIN!! (*sob*)
HOW THAT MIRROR GOT IN PLACE. BACK IN 57 I RESCUED SOME GIRLS FROM MAIM-HAMS THEY WERE WOUNDED WE ALL WENT ON THE SHOW. THEN THE NEXT GROUP OF WOUNDED WENT ON. THE SLOBS WERE HAPPY ABOUT THEM BEING BEATEN ON. I CALLED UP THE SHOW TO HAVE THEM EXPOSED I SAID I NEED THE NAMES OF THE MAIMHAM SLOBS EXPOSED TO INTROVERT THEM I GAVE THE NAMES SHE CAME UP WITH THE MAGIC MIRROR. FOR WEEKS I CALLED IN THE NAMES OF MAIMHAMS IN THE AREA. FOOLED THEM SHE COULD SEE RIGHT THROUGH THE TV IT SHATTERED THEM.
As a kid did not want a Teacher to see me a home! I use to think she must be some kind of witch if she could see me! I was always happy when I didn't hear my name! I did hear my name once and I was freaked out! Holy crap, she can see me!
I am TOO sick of you people who cut the jokes about Do-Bee's name. EVERYone knows the ACTUAL real meaning of Do-Bee. I hate that foolishnesss, and you people need to cut it out.
I used to freak out when she mentioned my name when I was a kidI I though, HOW COULD SHE SEE ME? Now I know, it was all part of a government plot. She is in league with the President's council on physical fitness. The feds! Well, Back to putting that tinfoil hat together.
You didn't see me!!!! You lie!!! Like you always do!!!!!!! You NEVER see me in that stupid "magic" mirror!!!!!!!! You NEVER said my name!!!!!! AHHHHHHHHAARARRGGG!!!!!!!!!!
The mirror was a fucking crock of shit. My name is Michael and thats the most common name there is, and I watched for 3 years and the douche never ONCE said my name. Fuck her
@mets, ROFLMFAO. Also might I point out Romper Room was racially biased for its time. I'd never heard Juan, Aurelia, Gustavo, Habib ever being mentioned from that magic mirror schtick. You are absolutely correct in your mirror interpretations.
There was one black girl on one of the episodes, but she was jumping all over the place and didnt follow directions
(crack baby maybe?) and she mysteriously "disappeared" after a commercial. I asked my mom what happened, and she said. "Maybe she went to the bathroom.." So innocent was I. I am convinced the names were the ones of the white consultants and producers. They never once said Michael. I can't believe I watched that ghetto show with those horrible pictures and visuals
@mets, that was a very good catch and doesn't sound surprising. Haven't really seen much in the way of diversity when looking up old Romper Room Teachers. Since we were all subjected to this programming I almost have to say that We "The Friends at Home" are truly pissed :) PBS offered better programming as well as the major networks when it came to quality programming for that timeframe: Electric Company, old school Sesame Street etc. etc.
@mets, I may be walking a fine line too about not enough diversity etc. etc. in Romper Room. Just depends on what part of the U.S. you grew up in. Oh well it is old news but fun to tear Romper Room apart and follow the Family Guy method in tearing the seventies and eighties apart :)
...Did She Say Schmoo?,.Really,.!,.Ughh!,She Didnt once say my name, but she has the odasity to mention...I dont even think thats a Real name Schmoo!!!
My aunt was one of the Canadian hosts of this show, I was on it twice. Being there for the mirror part was even creepier but that damn Doo Bee scared the crap out of kids! Every show there was a kid or 2 backstage crying and scarred to death! Theres probably 100's of kids that made it to the set but never got on TV because the bee scarred them.
@reneepow, remember the seventies were all drug induced which let to some very unique TV programming. It's okay now, we have therapeutic reality tv shows to watch :)
Did anyone else ever find the mirror bit creepy. She never said my name but I'd be scared because she could see me..... It took me years to get over that. I'm scared again....
So every city had it's own version of Romper Room, with a different host? Man. That's nuts.
My local CBS station in Albany, NY used to play old Romper Room reruns on Saturday mornings at about 6:30, before the cartoons started. This was in 1992 and '93. I remember looking at the copyrights and noticing they were almost always from 1975 or 1980. They weren't this version of the show---the host was different and the graphics and colors were MUCH less "70s-looking" than the ones here.
Ah yes.....Channel 9's version was what Long Island was lucky to get, and when I saw those two guys at the end during the credit sequence, I had one of the biggest flashbacks of my life. I always wondered who the hell those two guys were!
Tapes of the local Romper Room productions are rare, so this and your other clips are great! Thanks for posting!
That is a terrible psychological outcome you experienced from this show. I always believed this show affected people in negative ways such as this. Thank you for verifying this for me.
Hey! Romper Room should come back on tv. If she can see all those people, and concentrate on seeing those kids. Why not us grown ups. I am sure osama bin laden she can see. Is she to afraid what people really thing of her. HEY! Darn Too tin. There are many false prophets out there. Osama bin laden is one of them. Ok lets find him using romper room magic. It will be, The war of false prophets game. And cave men. Not the Gaico cave men. But the cave men before Geico. Native cavemens.
We used to watch as children, and I waited and waited for her to SEE me! She saw Rick, and Jane and Beth, whom were my siblings, but not me! My mother finally called up the show and told them about me, and lo and behold one day she "saw" ME! LOUELLA! in her magic mirror! Imagine how happy that made the little girl whom was me!!!!!!!!!
I remember it very well. I used to get annoyed that I never heard her say my name. I used to sit there and wait for her to say it, and she never did. I remember it being on WWOR 9, while the CTW programs (Sesame Street, The Electric Company) were on WPBS 13. Great memories, thanks.
This must have been a regional thing, in Minnesota Twin Cities, probably around 1957 i won a couple pairs of shoes from a local shoe store in Anoka Mn. and My dog chewed up both of them, great memories!
