  • 3:18 I love that riff so much. Why did he never write a song for it? :(

  • looks like Sammy hitted the dislike-button 24 times

  • You got to love this song, one of the bands best. Rock on Van Halen

  • van halen pra sempre !!!!

  • the four stooges

  • In every way, they were the perfect rock n roll band.

  • David Lee Roth & Eddie Van Halen ----> two greatest rock gods to own a stage

  • van halen at this point - to quote donald "duck" dunn from 'the blues brothers' movie, was "powerful enough to turn goat piss into gasoline."

  • Roth is breathtaking!!!!! possibly the best front man of all time.......shame on me "The best front man of all time!" dave is the man

  • Mike bass was very loud! lol ! Good old days of VH.

  • And by that I also meant 70's

  • :( down face for the crap we have to listen to now. 80'S MUSIC FOREVER!!!!

  • I am soooo......sorry, but to me at least back in the day they can say they where the hottest thing going. All that talent just...................gone - why? Feel free. I can take a punch. And IF IT WHERE back in the day or......they had never broken up I would still be there today - tonight whatever - standing in front of the stage going with the flow.

  • @spacewalker1551 my understanding is: it was booze. I heard that in several interviews with people who ought-a know. I believe EVH had the bigger problem. Like it was interfering with his life. And Edward plain looks like he's been dragged thru a knothole; way-old before his time now. And Roth had some trouble with it too. Such a waste- It's like with Hendrix. People keep saying 'what would he have been doing now had he lived?' You could ask the same about VH.

  • It's complete bullshit that warner bros and or VH has not released a DVD of this kind of stuff. Open the GD vaults already...

  • @Scripp Lol! Love that movie!!

  • it just don't get no fuckin better

  • I saw them on this '79 tour also. It was a different era for sure.

  • @soyounoat Was this when they warmed up for Black Sabbath? I would've loved to have seen that. I saw them the next year in '80 on the"Women & Children First" Tour @ The Chicago Amphitheatre. Amazing!

  • brilhant backinvocals

    love this guys

  • go see acdc, u get an adrealine rush from being in the same building as those guys

  • Great song by a great band!

  • loved the michael anthoney's bass was ripping like it should

  • No kidding. I love the raw, un-produced sound of older live concerts.

  • Saw them at the Caps center (now gone) outside Washington DC in 1979. Flat out THE BEST concert I have ever seen.

  • 3 Kegs of beer at my house, Everyone here in youtube is Invited!

P.S. I hired Vanhalen to play here.

  • I thought you drank alone

  • ROTH IS GOD!!!

  • dang can't get enough of this band!!!

Roth was the ultimate rock front man, Eddie the most prolific guitarist, Michael Anthony, and Alex Van Halen rounding out the perfect rock storm !

  • thats funny...i just saw vh1's top ten greatest hard rock songs countdown. van halen was in there, back in black #2, welcome to the jungle #1

  • ya know who I think was the real wild man..... Alex.

  • i hate how everyone forgets about Alex.

  • i know! When it comes to populatrity, Poor Al gets the short end of the stick :(

ALEX VAN HALEN IS AN EXTREMLY TALENTED MAN DAMN IT!!!!!!!!!!

  • @fraroc Totally agree. Most unrated drummer. I was in awe when I ran into him a few times at my daughter's school. He has a son that he picked up from time to time. We also had a end of the year picnic/get together and he was there hanging with us.

  • @fraroc

remember also alex and eddie traded . eddie played drums and alex guitar .

  • Alex was quite the hell-raiser back in the day.........him and Dave were quite combustible together and they would trash hotel rooms with reckless abandon.........they were also the ones banging the chicks after the show since Eddie & Mike were married.

  • like that well happen

  • Thats when david lee roth was THE SHIT

  • now hes just shit ha

  • lol thats KINDA what i meant. but now hes singing for charities so thats not bad

  • van halen coming back together would be like chris burton coming back from the dead

  • thay have already come back together

  • Nah Dawg, their 4th album "Fair Warning"

    is their best!

  • Mike Anthony always kinda looked like he could be a Janitor.... just putin that out there. great bassist tho.

  • roth will always b better than hagar WHEN IT COMES 2 VH

  • Im with you buddy, and I cant believe that anyone would take sammy over Diamond Dave, come on, I've loved VH since they first came out, and Im not talking worldwide, Im from Pasadena, where they used to play in the BEGINNING!!!

  • you can really hear the bass, the guitar needs to be louder

  • The Beatles weren't influence through how they played their instruments many people can play better than them that's obvious. The Beatles influences were from the way they recorded their music. Nobody had as good sound quality and recording skill as The Beatles did. That's why they say Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band is the best record ever because it was a pioneer in recording.

  • Brilliant stuff!!

  • wow dave's voice is suprisingly consistent live.

  • i love this song, long live van halen, daaaaance the night away!!!

  • I agree with Trooperx0. Dave is the only singer that belongs in the band! You never saw anyone like him before VH and you will never again! Anywhere! That man sure could work a stage and from what I hear from people lucky enough to see the reunion tour, he still does pretty good. Better than people half his age! The groups now all stand there like they have something stuck up their asses!

  • wow 1930 years ago. i meen it was 79 right?

  • Hey all you van halen fans out their. Hey those beatle fans arrogantly think that the beatles are waay more talented than van halen. They think harrison can oit play eddie, ringo is better then the alex and oh yeh paul, john is better than roth lol lol thats what they think. They have very little respect for hard rock and metal bands and dont think they are that talented. Dont believe me just ask them.

  • dude. The beatles totally reinvented music. Not through mastery of their instruments, but through innovation and creativity in songwriting. Without them, hard rock and metal would've never materialized.

The Beatles can't outplay Van Halen, but they can write better songs than Van Halen can.

  • Since when are the beatles hard rock or heavy metal. If anyone should credit for that is led zeppelin and black sabbath. How can the beatles write better songs when you shitty songs like yellow submarine,I am the walrus and many others. Also the beatles have good ones to.

  • You fool. Read an autobiography on Led Zeppelin (the Peter Grant one is good) or any comments from Ozzy when Sabbath was starting. Guess who the main influence for BOTH bands is.

The Beatles. Zep and Sabbath THEMSELVES credit The Beatles for their music.

    535, you're an ignorant fool.

  • Ok you are right so that means the bands before the beatles who influenced them are better than the beatles, dumbass lol. You idiot the beatles are not hevay metal at all. I dont give a shot if the beatles influences led zep or sabbath. Someone has to start the fire and luckliy it was the jonas brothers I mean the beatles lol.

  • No, you're right. The Beatles are not heavy metal, and I never claimed that. Neither did I claim that the Beatles are better than Zep, Sabbath or VH. In fact, I'll listen to Zep, Sabbath or VH over the Beatles anytime, but I don't deny the Beatles any credit like you are doing. The Beatles are credited with being both Sabbath's and Zeppelin's main influence by the members of the bands themselves. Get a clue and stop assuming things... bakajin

  • You idiot I dot this to piss people off so you have been goofed lol lol.

  • and I don't? You're a goof.

  • Its too bad Eddie Van Halen and David Lee Roth were ego manics which why van halen broke up

  • Eddies like the best, most soulful, and must known legendary guitarist thats still living i would have a huge Ego too but they do need Dave back cause i don't like Sam

    DAVE FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Big love for Eddie but I can think of a few more soulful and flat out better guitarists. Don't get me wrong I've always been a huge fan but he's no Page or Clapton.

  • Yeaah when you listen to Eddy, you're probably gonna expect some over the top soloing and crazy tapping, basically stuff that's really technical. I'm usually blown away by the sheer skill rather than the soulfulness

  • Still definately gotta love this song and the performance is totally rockin.

  • 30 years...

  • oh man ..is was that long ago!

  • such a good song. one of those ones that bring back memories big time :D

  • this during the height of disco! it's easy to forget how creative and original they really are

  • That harmonic tapping bit is so cool.

  • i totally love it!! ..)

  • CLASSIC man!! CLASSIC wicked!!

  • i think eddie is the best guitarist period

  • Hey, kids !!

Wanna see a fat tequila salesman who pretends to be a musician in his spare time? Check him out on Ewe-Tube..........his name is Sammy Hagar and he's disgusting.

If you wanna see a real rock star with talent and charisma who can match the fiery intensity of Eddie Van Halen...........well then just watch this video..........his name is David Lee Roth.............aka "Sir Diamond Lee" if you got any class.

  • I'm so tired of all Roth vs. Sammy comments! Get into your heads that people like different music! Sammy brought a different style of music to the band, I like the sammy-era more, but I still love the roth-era!

If you don't like Sammy, Go find him and beat him (well, Alex and Eddie will be there to protect him) instead of making our lives miserable with your stupid comments!

*Get the 80's back! I've never got a chance to see it!*

  • would like to see you guys jam agian origina comon money and egos anint evething wasnt for us us guys wouldnt be wipping your butt with 100 dollar bills

  • This song is my favorate song of Van Halen

  • I think Dave's former hair looked best in this video, lol. It practically looks like a lion's mane at 2:57!

  • They are fucking shit up man!!!Wooo.79 What a cool year.!!!

  • David Lee Roth = rock music's charming clown prince..

    vintage stuff here..

    TonyRomeo, Washington Dc, USA

  • Saw them live in Seattle for the Fair Warning Tour....Greatest show Ive seen..

  • They lost me after the first album !

  • Fucking awesome...

    THE American Band...

I love that M A's bass is way the hell up there in the mix.... That's how it should be...

I hate when the bass get's buried.

  • °º¤ø„¸ Van Halen „ø¤º°¨copy and paste if

    ¸„ø¤º°¨ ROCKS!! ``°º¤ø„¸your a van halen fan

    ¸„ø¤º°¨¸„ø¤º°¨¨°º¤ø„¸¨°º¤ø

  • great song!

  • I have but 3 words to say... best song ever!

  • How do make icons like that?!

  • Number one with no competition ever!!!!!!!!!!!

  • rock on!

  • the definition of "rock stars" here

  • great song timeless i dont care where these guys come from the music matters man

  • no they are all right europe is a bunch of french style pussies

  • Douchebags are you talking about Van Halen?

    I know your not.

    Crazy if you are.

  • fuckin hell man, chill out a bit will you, why so hateful towards people in europe? i'm english and have followed VH since 1979 when i saw them in london- and stop going on about the fuckin war- no place for it here mate-

lets just all get on please and have a good time and enjoy the great fuckin music ,------- someone from the uk!

  • look mate , does it really matter so much? so what if they got together when they moved to america? i suppose they are 100% american but i never thought about it as much as you- i just got into the band and its music and could'ny give a fuckin toss where they were from really! the music is whats important man not the patriotism, i suspect you have some tiny thing against holland for some reason? anyway lets just get on mate and enjoy VH still, they won't be around forever

  • I wouldnt be pissed off if a couple of Dutch fags didn't come in here calling the mighty Halen a "Dutch band"....you gotta realize that's fucking annoying as Hell....not to mention 100% untrue.....I will not let a few Dutch butt-boys tarnish the thriving American spirit that lives in Eddie & Alex & Wolfie Van Halen....they only have Dutch ancestry...they are pure American in heart and soul.....CASE CLOSED....and Holland can suck my dirty dick!!!

  • Well hell, how about you stop getting pissed at a whole continent just because of a couple people on a message board? THAT is what's really annoying.

  • I wouldnt be pissed off if a couple of Dutch fags didn't come in here calling the mighty Halen a "Dutch band"....you gotta realize that's fucking annoying as Hell....not to mention 100% untrue.....I will not let a few Dutch butt-boys tarnish the thriving American spirit that lives in Eddie & Alex & Wolfie Van Halen....they only have Dutch ancestry...they are pure American in heart and soul.....CASE CLOSED....and Holland can suck my dirty dick!

Umm who the fuck cares just listen to the song..

  • Eddie and Alex were born in Holland so that makes them Dutch not American asshole!

  • like half of ac/dc's members were born in scotland or england but they're still known as an australian band

  • Nah....I have fun slammin' these Euro-cunts like the ignorant dipshits they really are....they have no culture to be proud of so they think they can hijack American icons like Van Halen as their own.....laughable....the mighty Halen is more American than a baseball player driving a Chevy truck full of apple pie.

  • Don't really care what anyone thinks he sings the same to this day.

  • Gettin' real sick of Euro-cunts saying Van Halen is a Dutch band....nothing could be further from the truth.....ancestry has nothing to do with how VH came to be....they grew up in America, played American clubs, and made it big in America.....what about that dont you Euro dipshits dont understand? BTW, Dave could break your neck like a chicken with one of his legendary reverse flying spin kicks right to your faggoty faces....think carefully about that before you question his greatness.

  • Yes! Early VH at its best. Never get tired of watching this stuff, only wish i had been around at the time to appreciate it then.

  • magical, we need more VH live stuff from this era

  • OK I know it's 1979 but damn that's a hacked edit.

  • Just a dumb question: what are you talking about? That is of course, only if you know.

  • They need to invent a different instrument to make Eddie more earthly. The guitaring is insane.

  • Van Halen is one of the few bands from the 80's that can still sucessfuly tour today.

  • *clears throat*

    *coughcough*Rush*coughcough*

  • Van Halen at their best on this tune I say.

  • van halen, the best !!!!

  • DLR with the GODLY mane of hair... Awesome!!!

  • who the hell marked this as spam?

  • 16 seconds thats the most funniest sound. roth makes this really funny sound. its like a little kid or something. van halens the best

  • That's his signature vocal squeal. He did that quite a bit. He's known for it.

  • im seeing them in arco on nov 27th

  • lol the twenty seventh was my birthday.

  • What a great video. I can't wait to see them tonight in East Rutherford, NJ.

  • listen, I was born in 86 and I say I love 70's music. just that simple

  • musclecarguy, I was born in '76 and I dont think so either. Someone who said they were born in '77 and seem to think they are an expert on the 70's even though they were just a baby, said they thought that VH was trying to cash in on disco but I dont think so either.

  • mikmik, I am not referring to this record burning in chicago, I never heard of it happening and I dont know when disco died. I was born in 76' but anyways we were both just babies then. Maybe they were trying to cash in on disco, everyone tries to cash in on the lastest fads but I really dont think this song seems like disco. To me its just a very classic rock song. In fact I didnt even know the song came out in 79' I thought it was more like 83' or 84'.

  • also mikmik2953, if they wanted to cash in on the disco craze wouldn't they be making disco songs? Just because it was during a time when disco was so popular doesnt mean that they were trying to cash in on the craze. It just so happens that dancing was very popular in the 70's, with all the discos so why not make a song called, "Dance the night away"?

  • mikmik2953, I dont believe that but who cares? Its a great song

  • Disco Died July 12 1979. And most certainly wqs in it's decline when Van Halen made the faux pas of no solo on this track. Look it up and educate your self.

by the way. it's You're not "your"...ignorant huh?

And again. Someone PLEASE tell Cher, we've had enough.

    Long Live Van Halen

  • if you got your info from wikipedia its most likely wrong...

  • Yeah,

you hang on to that. it isn't just my opinion

    Disco IS dead.

    Long live Van Halen.

  • i did not say that it is still alive i just said

that did not die when you said it did

  • Fuck you, Have fun behind your computer all your life making up conspiracies that might have been semi-relevent 30 years ago but certainly not now.

  • Pay attention. There is NO GUITAR Solo in Dance the night away. just the harmonics.

Disco was dead by then kids. Someone please tell Cher that too.

  • your very ignorant. disco was in its prime in that time....where where you?

  • maybe? who knows...

who cares though cause they fuckin rock

  • VAN HALEN KICKS ASS!!!!!!

  • One of my definite favourite songs of all time. This is classic VH all the way! ROCK!

  • The Greatest American Rock Band Of All Time!!!!!

  • Roth was, and is the consumate showman. Roth-era Van Halen was always about partying and having a good time. Who's going to do all the Michael Anthony high-singing parts on the reunion tour?

  • i think EVH is perpetually smiling...kinda like the Joker

  • Hardest lick Michael ever played.

  • That was such an incredible band. (I am talking about Van Halen, not Van Hagar.) I have even more appreciation for them now than I did when I was a 12 year old fanatic. I hope history always remembers them.

  • Sammy Hagar is a musical genius. Please join reality.

  • It's not like you can talk me into thinking Van Hagar sounds good to my ears. It doesn't, and that's that.

  • Just as you can't talk a Nazi into thinking that Jews are people, or talk Rosie O'Donnell into thinking that you shouldn't be fat and stupid.

  • Yeah, that's an excellent analogy. People are just so far out of line for not liking Sammy Hagar's whiny bitch singing. Is there a 12 step program for that? Roth was so much better, you fat stupid Nazi.

  • It pains me to see the public opinion of DLR these days. This band was simply on top of the world 79-84. Jamie's Cryin made me want to buy my first album when I was 8. VH Ran things........

  • ah yeah...classic V.H(the only line-up that meant anything)in heat!!! good clip, totally enjoyed this one. jim.

  • i mean in rehab

  • amazing then eddie get better!!!!

  • I was at this concert. I was in the 3rd row. I gave Micahel Anthony the finger and told him to get a hair weave. David Lee Roth stopped the concert and refused to sing until I apoligized. The whole thing can be seen on Don Kirshner's Rock Concert. Dick Clark said it was the funniest thing he'd seen since his bloopers show. I'm stinking drunk--disregard this post.

  • stfu

  • Check out my guitar solos if you've got time....Jump, Hot for Teacher, Hear About It Later

  • holy shit, they were so good back then

  • I love the send up to the Stooges, with the Hello, hello, hello.

  • Dave is so Dave.

  • amen to that topjimmy, the M.A. part

  • Eddie wont kick his son out of the band.

  • eddies unreal
