Over the Edge is one of my favorite episodes ever. Partly because I rediscovered it after VAGUELY, VAGUELY remembering the sequence where Barbara is knocked off the building and smashes into the police cruiser, almost like it was something out of a dream of mine.
So to actually see it play out in an episode and remember it as it goes along was incredible for me. An overwhelming amount of nostalgic value.
@Goraid In the episode "Joker's Wild", his file didn't have the title "Joker", it was "Jack Napier". In one of the Scarecrow-episodes the doctors mention by name Two-Face/Harvey Dent, Poison Ivy/Pamela Lilian Isley and Joker/Jack Napier. See, they went with the origin of Tim Burton on this one. I guess they tried to write themselves away from that in the New Batman Adventures, but NC SHOULD have mentioned it. Besides, I personally don't count TNBA as a BTAS-season.
@sonofdark18 Precisely. Besides, I think the tone in the series even apart from the visuals is vastly different. Batman, for instance, is a lot more reminiscent to the Frank Miller kind of Batman than earlier.
@whotookCheesusChrist they wanted to give tnba a more serious and dark tone (for instance the episodes "The demon within" "never fear" "over the edge" "old wounds" "mad love" exc
I really like Batman the Animated series, but there were some times when it got so surrealistically goofy that it just took me out of the show completely.
Although she was a villain, Harley was kinda hot and in Mad Love, you realized what she had to deal with and felt sorry for her, and after watching that, I REALLY HATE THE JOKER
(cont) Moreover, I recall when I was younger that they advertised that Two Face episode so much for the show. You would just see snippets of it all the time as advertisement. Really good times.
I bought the series on DVD and iTunes. I am impressed with how adult oriented it is. You cannot appreciate it as much as a little kid. You have to be older to really enjoy it. It's so dark though, like literally. Sometimes I wonder how they used black paper to draw when nearly half the objects are skewed in darkness sometimes. More importantly though, such awesome plots. I rarely hated an episode. Every character and plot is delivered so well, & who can forget the beginning of Mr.Freeze we know!
@LordManda2 well that makes it a tiny bit better lol by chance u now where i would b able 2 watch free online episodes of this cause I'm a total nerd inside and out lol
@SoraandRoxaslover01 Watching free online episodes of a cartoon is wrong, animators and voice actors need that income to survive :( buy the dvds instead...
@LordManda2 y yes i might b made but u don't have my parents who don't understand the diff between a graphic t and a little kid shirt so if i even tried 2 bring one in2 the house they would sell it
The whole funeral/ eulogy scene in 'The Man Who Killed Batman' is proof of why, with all due respect to the late Heath Ledger, Mark Hamill will always be my favorite Joker actor. He's able to go from hilarious to terrifying and back again in a matter of seconds.
@NepperCat I remember not liking 'I've Got Batman in my Basement' very much, which is kind of strange since the Penguin was one of my favorite villains on the show. 'The Demon's Quest' was awesome, I'm surprised the Critic didn't include it in this list.
It just kind of hit me that Batman is like James Bond in a sense. Multiple actors have portrayed him, everybody has their favorite, and there is one we can all agree just plain sucks. For Bond, it was George Lazenbi (or Roger Moore), fot Batman, the uncontested worst Batman was George Clooney.
as a kid I thought BTAS was sooo boring because it wasnt as funny as Spongebob but now that I'm older I regret not watching it more; its kooky, dark, and complex which everything I love without out a doubt this is the best kids cartoon ever made if only they could be like this today
You know what I would like to see Nostalgia Critic do? A Old vs. New between Mask of the Phantasm and Under the Red Hood. Both are extremely serious and delve into Batman's need to make tough decisions. I hate to be That Guy, but please thumb up if you agree.
@MrSourceMan But they're not really the same. Old vs new is what it is. OLD vs NEW. Like the old 'The Haunting" vs the 90's one with Catherine Zeta Jones, stuff like that.
@MrSourceMan I totally agree!!! Yes they are different but Nostalgia Critic would totally get into that. and he defiantly wouldn't review them if they were totally the same :) smart thinking :)
When he was explaining "Over the Edge" I was wondering what the ending was and how anything that insane could have a less than awesome ending, but then he called it a great "what if" story. At that moment I realized that it had to be a dream. Thanks for the slight hint of a spoiler!!! And I was just about to watch that episode!
@mikenike123454 actually i thought tat they were actually fighting scarecrow but the part when Batgirl was killed was just an illusion created by scarecrow
Y'know, I wish there were more episodes with the style that season 3 had. It had this slightly more dark and angular look to it. It felt as if the characters that Batman fought were more demented in their look. It really cements my love for this series.
The only thing I never really got about Harley is that if she was a psychologist at Arkham, why is she such a dumb ass in everything? Isn't one of the things you need to be a psychologist intelligence?
@JKreviews Simple. There's NO WAY the Critic could do the 'West impression' any justice, and besides, fans of West might've gotton pissed off if he did it bad (I'm just guessing, but considering how pissed people got about Mako in his TMNT review, it wouldn't have surprised me).
@BatManFan55 Not to be a douche, but Arkham City is not part of the DCAU canon, while Batman: TAS is. This means that anything that happened in Arkham City doesn't count as far as the show is concerned, and visa versa. It was cool that they had some of the same voice actors, though.
Harley and Ivy was a good episode, Nothing to Fear, The Strange Secret of Bruce Wayne, tons of episode the Critic didn't name off. He should do another one.
I think that some of these characters were designed after the Tim Burton movies. Or were they basing this show off the Tim Burton Movies? Well that would make sense, since the show is called "BATMAN-The Animated Series"
Loved the Two-Face episodes - I think it's up there with what they did with the character in The Dark Knight, and his villain theme is the BEST out of the bunch!
Regarding Harley's kazoo playing, this is what was stated: In an interview, Dini stated that it was fortunate that Sorkin was able to complete the song in one take, as immediately after that, she and the remainder of the voice cast also broke into uncontrollable laughter, and "we'd have never gotten a second take of it."
