Nostalgia Critic - Top 11 Batman The Animated Series Episodes 1/2

Over the Edge is one of my favorite episodes ever. Partly because I rediscovered it after VAGUELY, VAGUELY remembering the sequence where Barbara is knocked off the building and smashes into the police cruiser, almost like it was something out of a dream of mine.

So to actually see it play out in an episode and remember it as it goes along was incredible for me. An overwhelming amount of nostalgic value.

@Goraid In the episode "Joker's Wild", his file didn't have the title "Joker", it was "Jack Napier". In one of the Scarecrow-episodes the doctors mention by name Two-Face/Harvey Dent, Poison Ivy/Pamela Lilian Isley and Joker/Jack Napier. See, they went with the origin of Tim Burton on this one. I guess they tried to write themselves away from that in the New Batman Adventures, but NC SHOULD have mentioned it. Besides, I personally don't count TNBA as a BTAS-season.

plus it takes place 2 years after btas, so think of it as a sequel series. although a short sequel series

@sonofdark18 Precisely. Besides, I think the tone in the series even apart from the visuals is vastly different. Batman, for instance, is a lot more reminiscent to the Frank Miller kind of Batman than earlier.

I really like Batman the Animated series, but there were some times when it got so surrealistically goofy that it just took me out of the show completely.

Although she was a villain, Harley was kinda hot and in Mad Love, you realized what she had to deal with and felt sorry for her, and after watching that, I REALLY HATE THE JOKER

I bought the series on DVD and iTunes. I am impressed with how adult oriented it is. You cannot appreciate it as much as a little kid. You have to be older to really enjoy it. It's so dark though, like literally. Sometimes I wonder how they used black paper to draw when nearly half the objects are skewed in darkness sometimes. More importantly though, such awesome plots. I rarely hated an episode. Every character and plot is delivered so well, & who can forget the beginning of Mr.Freeze we know!

The whole funeral/ eulogy scene in 'The Man Who Killed Batman' is proof of why, with all due respect to the late Heath Ledger, Mark Hamill will always be my favorite Joker actor. He's able to go from hilarious to terrifying and back again in a matter of seconds.

The one episode I havent seen in years is "I've Got Batman in My Basement". My favorite was "The Demon's Quest" they should've made that one a movie.

@NepperCat I remember not liking 'I've Got Batman in my Basement' very much, which is kind of strange since the Penguin was one of my favorite villains on the show. 'The Demon's Quest' was awesome, I'm surprised the Critic didn't include it in this list.

It just kind of hit me that Batman is like James Bond in a sense. Multiple actors have portrayed him, everybody has their favorite, and there is one we can all agree just plain sucks. For Bond, it was George Lazenbi (or Roger Moore), fot Batman, the uncontested worst Batman was George Clooney.

as a kid I thought BTAS was sooo boring because it wasnt as funny as Spongebob but now that I'm older I regret not watching it more; its kooky, dark, and complex which everything I love without out a doubt this is the best kids cartoon ever made if only they could be like this today

When he was explaining "Over the Edge" I was wondering what the ending was and how anything that insane could have a less than awesome ending, but then he called it a great "what if" story. At that moment I realized that it had to be a dream. Thanks for the slight hint of a spoiler!!! And I was just about to watch that episode!

Y'know, I wish there were more episodes with the style that season 3 had. It had this slightly more dark and angular look to it. It felt as if the characters that Batman fought were more demented in their look. It really cements my love for this series.

@BatManFan55 Not to be a douche, but Arkham City is not part of the DCAU canon, while Batman: TAS is. This means that anything that happened in Arkham City doesn't count as far as the show is concerned, and visa versa. It was cool that they had some of the same voice actors, though.
