Unfathomable that such a beautiful treasure in uncountable ways could think she was not! May we reach others to keep them from her tragic, grievous, untimely end; we'll never be able to imagine what incalculable treasures we lost from her priceless soul.
There was and isn't now, any female singer quite as emotionally stirring as Karen Carpenter; though back at the time, I felt like their music in general was overly pop'ish... Now, looking back and having seen the endless list of pop chart junk since then, I realize just how talented and magical they really were... RIP Karen, and thanks for the beautiful mem's...
Karen's songs truly inspired so many people. Then and now. Even Nicholas Cage played her songs in his movie "Ghost Rider". If her voice and singing ability can touch a man's heart then, that's truly a gifted person. If Karen only knew the legacy she's left. The Carpenters music will live on for many years to come.
@Coahoma sorry dude, but there's NO COMPARISON here. If you think LG has talent you are welcome to your opinion but all I see and hear with her is a slut that tries to push the envelope with her provocative attire, and she doesn't know how to keep her mouth shut about political or social issues. Her political and social views are not what others, and I presume you, are interested in hearing from her. I myself appreciate entertainers who ONLY ENTERTAIN and check their opinions at the door.
@jamesrobbison you shouldnt diss true talent like lady gaga to make a point...she's a little eccentric sure, but she does have talent...open your mind and listen to her for her voice and not what she does or dresses like~
~As yng.-bachelor in HollywoodHills circa late-60's, late to an appointment, I spotted 'girl of my dreams' in front of a VenturaBlvd. Audio-shoppe. Double-parking my Corvette, i strolled over for closer impression! She was testing a Mic.; -i became enthralled by her voice & loveliness, and told her so; -she smiled graciously thanking me, then proceeded with the Mic. -Was later told by shop-owner- "Robair you should have stayed, ms.Carpenter hoped to become acquainted"; --i'm still heartbroken..!
She was beautiful, and would have been even if she was heavier. Im a recovering anorexic this is the truth, im a male 6 ft2 large framed ,and was down to 120 lbs in the hospital near death. Im doing better now 20 years of anorexia and it almost took my life many times. Its so sad for me to see this woman who had died from it. What a beautiful voice, and heart. : (
I grew up on this beautiful womens music. How can I say this?Way before her time and also lets just keep worring about our wieght and not worry about the person we are? There are alto singers in heaven.................Kitty
@lcr1955 Karen was pure, looking back now I don't think Karen ever even thought of the word sexy. She took time to dress well, groom well, & always smell great- she tried to be a perfectionist in everything she did, but she was so damm critical about herself, which gave her low self esteem. She was the most Beautiful & Angelic person I've seen.
It's so ironic how the other great rendition of this song was by Donny Hathaway. They both had so much emotion in their voices. Two young stars of the 70s,personal problems, unhappiness,so much talent, damn they just died too soon.
How can the video, the Voice, and the lyrics not make tears well up in your eyes? Karen's voice is so resonant and sweet...I fall into vivid daydreams when she sings...I feel she was the most beautiful female voice in the last 100 years...just the PRESENCE of that magical voice and delivering those achingly beautiful lyrics in this way...tears!
@fairfielder Pick up a copy of the 2 album set I believed simply called "The Carpenters". I think there are about 40 songs on there and it was mixed at A&M Music so the audio is so fine. Plug a quality headset into your stereo, close your eyes and you'll swear Karen is in the room with you. I promise the money is nothing compared to the shear ectasy of hearing her voice so vividly clear.
So many songs can bring tears to my eyes but this one plus the video tops the lot for me. If there's anything to be learned from this at all, I'd have to say it's to never to let anyone crush our sense of self with silly comments about our appearance, especially.
Karen Carpenter had one of the most gifted voices in recorded history. I was never a fan of The Carpenters, due to their selection in music. Sometimes, when I listen to Diana Krall, I think Karen Carpenter would have served such a genre exceedingly well. Karen is a lot like Cass Elliott, a crystal voice simply vanished, having been worthy of so much more than either ever seemed to fully realize.
@nahnni That's a really perceptive comment, especially about Karen so easily fitting into the Krall genre. I never thought of that (not into her music) but you are exactly right....that would have been a tremendous melding of musical sounds....its uncanny to even imagine it. Wow. I am blown away by the thought. So much 60's and 70's talent just slipped into the ether, leaving us wondering why we weren't more appreciative, more attentive, more aware of how great the times we were a part of.
@photograph49 i dont think she really realized this...people who are special sometimes dont realize it...such a shame...she died when i was a child but i remember my mom playing her songs...i remember the albums...........
I love Karen Carpenter, if I could emulate this woman, I would. Beautiful love, 1970 Anaheim Convention Center. Smooth, gorgeous singer who's life was over just way to soon. Enjoy her vocals and Richard's accompaniment.
Will always remember you KC THANK YOU XXXXXXXXXX
