  • This is what is typical of procurement gone wrong. It had no practical application in SEA for the Marine Corps for which it was sold. It 's strengths became its weakness meaning that it could get you in serious trouble ,because it could. It was to slow for the road and it stretched the definiton of AMPIB.The only practical use was Eurasia and we would have never gone that far.The Otter met the requirements and was proven capable, sorta like the Mighty Mite being replaced by roll over capability.

  • This is painful to watch...

  • I was a mechanic in the 82d in an Air Defense unit back when they used to tow 20mm vulcans around. The Gamma Goat did have issues and were tough to work on in the field but when they were good they were very good. They could haul around a lot of weight. One thing I know is they actually drive and get better traction when they have a load.

Fording, however, was a scary joke, they would sink, and I saw one eat it on Cicily DZ, that was pretty interesting.

  • I did send an email.

  • Spent as much time filming his shoes as he did the 561

  • I think this makes the gamagoat look pretty bad, it lacks the proper anti slip differential mechanism obvious for a vehicle of this design, and there should be a sort of suspension lock like on the Hummer specifically for crossing such obstacles

  • Boy, you sure don't know much. There is no way a hummer would cross this specific gully. I even had the center axle off the ground. The goat is the same length and width as the hummer. So, to tell that the hummer would do better, sorry. The goat does have limited slip diffs on all three axles plus the center diff pivots allowing for full contact. they are clutch packs and not direct lock and that is the only drawback. Any other two axled vehicle would foul at the center of the vehicle.

  • of course a commercial hummer couldn't cross that particularly, I was just mentioning that because the aid of a suspension lock enables vehicles to cross similar obstacles diagonally. and like I said it doesn't have the PROPER limited slip mechanisms to prevent that center wheel from spinning freely

  • @m561gamagoat do they not make air lockers for it think its the same as a 17 spline isuzu trooper reer

  • @m561gamagoat

Don't under estimate what the Hummer, or any other 4x4 is capable of doing. That little gully isn't much, friend.

  • Thanks for the movie, I never saw one of those run before. Next time aim the camera right on the gamma goat please. It make for a better show.

  • Sorry to say, it was a friend of mine that had also not seen this action before. So, yes, I agree. I will do some more shooting with a lot more additions to the goat.

It was also my first time driving this crazy.

  • That would be great. I have seen these cool goats at shows and in books but this was a real treat. Did you have any water come in the cab area when it went swimming? Thanks again.

  • by god, drunken guy behind the cam, really boring movie!
