If you use the stars in the background as reference, you will notice Mars going standard motion (right to left), then slowing down then starting to go backwards (left to right).
@thora1birch hi names jamal um i hope you dont offend me but anyway im muslim and muslims on earth must believe that THE EARTH WILL RISE FROM THE OPPOSITE SIDE for one day and that day is a MAJOR SIGN OF JUDGEMENT DAY TO COME. if you type judgement day islam or major signs islam google you will find that PROPHET MUHAMMAD SAID THE SUN ILL RISE FROM THE WEST TO THE EAST one time an that day GOD WILL SHUT THE DOOR OF MERCY NO MORE ACCEPTANCES TO ISLAM WILL BE TAKEN PERIOD
I'll bite. Take a bike, flip it upside down, and spin one of the wheels as fast as you can. Now, apply your palm to the wheel, hard, to slow it to a halt. Does it burn? Did you lose some skin? That's momentum being changed into thermal energy via friction. And that's just a bicycle wheel.
The Earth weighs 5.9736 × 10^24 kg and is 12,756.2 km wide at the equator, which is spinning at a rate of 1,674.4 km/h. For the Earth's rotation to halt, reverse, halt again, and continue, it would take an unbelievable amount of energy. Maybe a god could do it, if it wanted to on a whim, but it would kill everything. The crust would buckle and volcanism would flare as the core kept spinning, generating turbulence in the mantle.
This would be more than a divine sign, it would be the end.
So it's basically an illusion, when earth passes mars and mars is till going the same speed, mars looks like it goes right for a bit, then continues going left.
Like 9amtoxic mentioned, from the perspective of ancient Earth astronomers, their observations didn't make sense until they accepted a model that had the Earth orbiting the Sun like all the other planets.
thats is an amzing illusion. god is the best for making an illusion. :D thanks for posting it.

@goodeldash telling to use the stars in the background helped to visualize it much better. Thank you!

Is it when Earth passes Mars, so Mars appears as though it's going backwards?

ugh! I still don't get it.

So, I guess now you don't get to say there's a lot of science in the Quran.

@gbCerberus37 yes Aka Heliocentric Model which was concluded by Galileo

All the planets exhibit retrograde motion at one time or another.
Ancient
astronomers were unable to come up with a satisfactory explanation for
it.
