  • @Ruthinisrael Most GM crops were designed to be resistant to a herbicide or to produce their own pesticides. So the huge majority of GM crops are tainted with herbicides and pesticides as well as contain antibiotic resistant marker genes and promoters which increase the chance of HGT, sheep etc. do are not GM and do not carry the risks that GM does.

  • @myndy86 Well said sir.

  • i feel better about crops with modified genes than crops tainted with pesticides. dont forget that corn and sheep and cows are all products of humanity.

  • Three minutes of google searching got me here:

"A study published in the International Journal of Biological Sciences demonstrates the toxicity of three genetically modified corn varieties from the American seed company Monsanto, the Committee for Independent Research and Information on Genetic Engineering (Criigen, based in Caen), which participated in that study, announced Friday, December 11."

  • Monsanto nearly has a monopoly in India and Argentina because of the spread of the genes from their crops into natural crops. This video is a farce. Monsanto bullies farmers into taking their seed, which has been shown to cause sterility in animals. The lab tests where doctored, and the food just isn't safe. Fun fact: Monsanto is behind Soy Joy. They own most of the soy farming in the US. round up ready soy, not safe.

  • populations have dramatically increased over the past 50yrs and i agree how wonderful technology can be. but we always think in the now and never of the consequences. the U.S. can easily feed the entire world. We are such gluttons and so wasteful, that it will never happen b/c we have a mcDonalds on every corner. we do not need GM foods. this is just about MONEY not about saving lives. we have plenty of food to go around. the isolation of thought in this country can be baffling..

  • what a crock! High quality food is not the kind you get from Mosantosized crops. The greed is overwhelmingly amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Monsanto and the FDA, you disgust me!

  • bradford...Of course it's a lie...That's what Monsanto is so good at...

The world does not need GMO to feed itself...

We need sun, water, land, good soil, wise education and family planning...GMO does nothing to improve those things...

  • Until there is a "viable" alternative, what can people do? It's not practical to grow 100% organic, it's certainly not fair to expect these people to work twice as hard just so middle class westerners will feel "safe" eating their food. It's always easy to tell other people what to do when you are not the one breaking your back...

  • of course its possible to grow 100% organic food. i do it all the time!! here is how: soil, water and seeds....non GM seeds. obviously many of you havent farmed or gardened if you think its impossible to grow organic food. humans did it for thousands of years. GM food is new. it only appeared in 1997 in the supermarkets.

  • Of course you can do it small-scale. You have a nice home to relax after a hard day's work. A lot of these people are liviing in shacks. I never said growing organic was impossible. But to expect to feed 6 billion people with dwindling resources and land is not. Life is not ideal - their situations aren't ideal. If you want to affect change, then you start growing %100 organic for 100 people. Don't lecture these people who are simply trying to survive.

  • those monsanto videos are not disgusting.they are a little soppy.but the truth is gm crops work and people get fed, and at the end of the day that counts!what is disgusting is greenpeace,s insistance that the third world starve, so they can be emotionally satisified, frankley environmentalists should keep saving whales, and stop killing people

  • this video is SICK. its a lie. pure 100% lie. not even a misrepresentation or misinterpretation. its a blatant lie.

  • i feel better about crops with modified genes than crops tainted with pesticides. dont forget that corn and sheep and cows are all products of humanity.

  • for 12k years we lived off of food from farms. it is only the past 50years have we used pesticides, insecticides, chemicals and GM foods.. so if we got by for 12k years, we dont need to use the crap from the past 50. Europe and other countries around the world want nothing to do with GM Foods. If they become flooded into the american farm system, it will be a disaster. there is no way to prove that these foods won't hurt us later in life. just look what it maybe doing to the bee populations.

  • corn as we know it *IS* genetically modified. albeit not in a lab, but through countless generations of artificial selection. the problem is, that there are many many many more mouths to feed today than have been the past 12k years. tweaking the genetic code of our crops to grow larger, healthier and more robust yields may save millions from starvation. btw... isn't it just as likely that pesticides we use could be harming bee pop's?

  • that was natural.. this is forced in a lab. that took time and developed and progressed in farm, not in a peatry dish..

  • im sorry but the population is not the same as it was 12k yrs ago...you have to start thinking practically. there is a greater demand for food now. you can't achieve this without applying biotechnology. Its better than using pesticides which is hazardous not only to us but to the environment as well. i agree with what pollifaxtoaster has mentioned below.

  • one person can grow enough food for 100 people completely organically. the problem is distribution not quantity of food grown. biotechnology is about making money. thats all.

  • You need 27 pound grain to produce one pound of chicken and more than 100 pound grain to produce one pound of beef.

  • Does that factor in egg and dairy output? Just asking, I'd really like to know.

  • yeah, and in the past 50 years life expectancy has doubled. using outdated farming techniques would be a disaster.

  • click here to see if yr stupid.

  • @PolliFaxToaster You don't need pesticides if you know about permaculture. Do your homework! GMO have caused deaths, increases in allergies to foods (broken immune systems) and bankrupted farms. It is a BUSINESS MODEL, NOT A SOLUTION TO PESTICIDES. It is unnatural and unhealthy.

  • These Monsanto videos are disgusting!!...What people don't realize, is that along with suing farmers...These corporations have pushed through state legislatures (in about 15 states) limitations now so people can't vote on the GMO issue locally. This started to happen after some local counties voted to ban GMO's...Goes to show these Corp. and Reps. could care less about people's concerns and voting rights...It's ugly stuff...

  • wickedragon...The gmo crusade by Monsanto has nothing to do with 'feeding' the worlds poor...There is already enough food for that...What often ruins it for local farmers is the subsidized stuff from U.S. or other places that puts local farmers out of business...GMO is a profit/money game...

  • I appreciate your posting these videos and that you allow diverse comments.

I believe that the jury is still out on the health safety of GMO's. In the meantime, Monsanto and the biotech industry need to be more responsive to the end consumer. Polls show that 80-90% of Americans want mandatory labeling for GMO-based food products. Yet we do not have labeling laws like they do in the EU.

Monsanto should support labeling -- it's the responsible thing to do.

  • nice to see the wonderful presentation on GM crops and application of biotechnology

    Dr. S.C. Kaushik

  • consider that the job youre doing is wrong. others like you have turned against GM. please consider that your skills could be put to a more ethically responsible use than promoting genetic modification. people are suffering because of GM food. how can you feel secure knowing that fact?

  • although I disagree with practically everything in these videos, I still appreciate you putting them on youtube.

I think though that you should make it more clear in the descriptions that these are commercials, produced by Monsanto, and not independent voices.

(I still have a video by Haliburton about how cars are helping to make the air cleaner, by the way ;))

  • I have yet to hear a viable solution to the worlds food situation that does not involve higher yields per acre through chemistry or biotechnology.

We can either cut down all the forests of the world to grow crops the old way, or we can force every single farmer in the world to produce only beans and wheat, rice and potatoes.. No more cattle, no more chickens, sheep, berries, nuts, fruits or other low-energy yield foodstuffs.

  • the food that is produced nowadays *is* enough to feed every human being on the planet.

The problem is that about half (!) the produced food is thrown away again in order to control market prices or because it doesn't look 'presentable' anymore. The industrialised countries own an enormous overproduction, produced in large parts on the fields on 3rd-world-farmers.

This irresponsible and inhumane behaviour is the reason and contains the solution to the problem of world hunger.
