Don't they have joint enterprise rules in the US? I'd assumed they did because their common law can be traced back to our (English) common law. Basically in the UK if there was 20 people beating someone up and that person died there would be no need to prove which one struck the fatal blow they could all be charged with murder and receive life sentences so long as the jury believed they all intended to kill or seriously injure the victim.
