Willy Brandt got the Nobel for his diplomacy and kneeing down in Poland, rightly so, asking for forgiveness, given the imperialistic wars and genoicides of our history, he was not even involved in, being in exile.
I read the text of the Committee for the Nobel, he is quoting. Worth to read!
"Institutionalized racism and sexism are examples of this.
* Negative vs. Positive Peace - introduced the concept that peace may be more than just the absence of overt violent conflict (negative peace), and includes a range of relationships up to a state where nations (or any groupings in conflict) might have collaborative and supportive relationships (positive peace)."
Reference is made to the interview with William Engdahl, laying out the overall strategy for Afgha!
@PanzerDivisionBOM I do not support Obama as winner of peace prize. He was given the prize to encourage US to renounce war and end atrocities in Afghanistan and Iraq and to show the world that there are altnerative resolutions to conflict than war. However, in hindsight this exercise of the carrot has proven ineffective since US wars have not changed and those worthy of the peace prize were not rewarded for their tireless actions.
"[...] those worthy of the peace prize were not rewarded for their tireless actions."
Forget "tireless actions". The president has a seal of veto. Every congressional act from the last two years has been presented to him, and he could have stopped any or all of them by means of a short, written complaint. That includes every bailout bill, the Blank Act of Blank, the PATRIOT Act renewal and multiple punitive taxes, including the healthcare fiasco, just off the top of my head. -
It's conceivable that he could have forced an end to the War on Terror through use of this power alone, by suddenly and unexpectedly vetoing crucial military spending increases.
Frankly, I'm convinced that any random bum off the street has had a much more positive overall impact on the cause of world peace, by condoning and committing fewer and less egregious acts of aggression.
Hear hear, Prof Johan Galtung! I so agree. He says what I and many have said. I love the part he said Obama is to the RIGHT of Bush! That was awesome! 5*****
If we take into consideration some of the people that have won it in the past (Kissinger, M.Teresa, etc.) I'd say Obama's Nobel "peace" prize is quite fitting.
Wish I could wake up one day and win a peace prize. I think peace would be nice too. No nukes, no guns, no disease, no famine, no pain, and no suffering! I dream of a world with ALL THESE THINGS. NOT JUST NO NUKES! I should be man of the universe.
War supporters, whether public or private are not the least bit peaceful. And as such deserve no accolades for their less than peaceful actions or points of view.
Maybe they changed the definition of the word peace... but that's highly unlikely.
Even if people don't hate Obama and realize he's bought and paid for by the same elitists that owned Bush, Clinton, etc., they can't possibly think he deserves the peace prize. He's overseeing 2 wars(3 if you count Pakistan), which should exclude him(even if he didn't start the wars). Expansion of drone attacks in Pakistan should disqualify him further(if that's possible). Also, a stat I've seen several times is approximately 50 innocents die for each insurgent killed(not very peaceful).
So you think him not giving up the prize means he actually believes he deserves it? I could see that, but I could also see him using some bs excuse about being offensive if he didn't graciously accept it.
The man can talk. but well... it doesn't all hit home. The world really got rickrolled ("baracked"). This man brings change. Change from the neo-conservative agenda back to the classical conservative agenda. Thats like change from whiskey to wodka. Most people actually meant change as in from whiskey to water but... well... we all got "baracked".
Brilliant interview - thank you for posting this.

Even with a relatively prestigious award like this, you'll have the occasional off-year. It happens.
But Obama... ? He hasn't actually done anything. He's just spouted catchphrases and continued Bush's programs.
Surely, almost any other person on the planet deserves it more than him, on account of having attacked fewer people, and less viciously?

Does President Obama Deserve To Win The Nobel Prize?
Simple question deserves a simple answer: no, he doesn't.
If you ever have the mentality that war is necessary, then you should never accept any prize that involves peace.
He needs to turn that award in.

Because he has to agree to a certain degree with the left wing

If any of you have seen his speech yet, it was quite disturbing.
He basically said "War is Peace".
I also found his quip on "civil war" rather disturbing.
