  • You watching on Go? How awesome has it been to watch it again?

  • Watching the movie on TV right now! The music brings back some memories.

  • Great Movie and great Soundtrack

  • Yes, Hollywood would mess up a remake or sequel, but if an independent film maker with passion got the rights to it, then it would have the possibility of something special. Hollywood would only care about the money. That's why today's movies mostly suck.

  • "Welcome to Starfighter Command...join the other recruits." I can die a happy man if anybody says that to me for real! ;-)

  • @Credithelper75 And you would with that attitude. Remember, it's only the fact that Alex grogan wimped out at first that stopped him being in the hangar when Zur attacked.

  • @stainlesssteelfox1 actually it happened that way because thats how the script was written.

  • @KEYSERSOZE1965 My goodness, you're right! And it would have made a very short and uninteresting story if he'd instead fully accepted the chance to be a Star Fighter when he first got there, as he would have died. Which is what our friend wanted to do. Actually, it makes the moral a bit of a broken aesop. The basic idea is, 'When you get a chance to do something amazing, grab it with both hands and hold on tight'. But if he'd done that right away, he'd have been killed.

  • @stainlesssteelfox1 lol couldn't have said better myself.

  • Remember watching this back in the 80's. I so wanted to play that arcade machine :(

  • Most underrated sci fi theme. Still moves me.

  • i would love to see a hollywood remake of this movie...but the original will always be a fuckin classic. "Ive seen em come and ive seen em go but your the best my boy, light years ahead of the competition"....Robert Preston was great.

  • The frontier has been breached !

  • I say do a sequel....but get Alex Rogan's younger brother to become a Starfighter...he'd be an adult now.

  • "....And did Galoka think the Yulus were to ugly to save??"....."??Who's Galoka??"

  • awesome movie. one of the best scifi movies of all time.

  • This is the movie that told little boys, "GREETINGS STARFIGHTER. You have been selected by the Star League to defend the Galaxy against Xur and the Ko-dan armada." to which we universally responded, HELL YES!

  • John Williams eats Safans shit and is no douchebag to anyone. The ending credits to The Last Starfighter holds its ground. Excellent , Dir. Safan.

  • The 80s fucking ruled! Everything sucks now.

  • TRUE DAT!!! I'M A 80'S MAN MYSELF!! ARGUABLY THE MOST ORIGINAL DECADE OF ALL TIME IN MOVIES, FASHION, STREET LINGO, ETC!! THE 80'S WERE TIGHT!!

  • @poeticjigga I like the 80's too, because they were when the present really started to crystalize, but you gotta admit, they were also kinda silly!

  • This movie deserves a remake.

  • @Samjapa NO! Hollywood will fag it up.

  • they play this at disney california adventure near soaring over california ride. I heard and was like " OMG its the last star fighter theme!!" my gf looked at me like I'm crazy lol

  • Xur disliked this.... XD

  • well this IS one of the first movies ever o use CGI so ya..(well thats at least what my dad told me)

  • AND THE MEMORIES KICK IN

  • This was an amazing film! The music had a feeling of fun along with everything else. I liked it. Safan did a great job, tring to compose the music for a film that was mostly unfinished.

By today's standards the CGI is Playstation quality... but at the time, they had to use VAX SUPERCOMPUTERS to do even that quality... it took days to render a few minutes of footage, and the software to do it had to be written FROM SCRATCH! It was a HUGE deal to do CGI in the '80s!

  • this may have been the main theme but 'into the starscape' which i believe was played in the ending credits is alot better, its heavily based on the main theme but its abit longer, i highly suggest it.

  • Remake: Bad thing (as Hollywood does remakes)

Revamp: maybe a good thing. Imagine a cleaned up image and sound with better CGI.

The same could be done with other movies (Schwarzenegger's "Conan the barbarian" and "Poltergeist" come to my mind).

  • I just remembered Willow as a "candidate" :) (Those 80s FX could be much much better with today tools).

  • @bufalo1973 No way! Poltergeist is absolutely perfect just the way it is and should be left alone.

  • @bufalo1973 A remake would be better at least then there's no confusion; you know exactly which version to avoid. Whereas tampering with movies and changing the effects? That just makes me want to kill things. Stuff your "better cgi" right up where the sun don't shine.

  • @Paul07791, first: there's no need to say the last sentence. I was just expresing an idea.

Second: I didn't mean "remake the movie". I meant "remake the (shity) 80s CGI". Imagine the Conan scene when they are fighting to save Conan from the ghosts done with todays technology but not changing the "real" footage, only the CGI part. And the same could be said about not so old movies, like Starship Troopers (some CGIs can be "upgraded"). I'm not saying "take Forbiden Planet and change everything".

  • @bufalo1973 I like the shitty 80's CGI, (well, it's not CGI is it, as it was all done by hand.) I'm against all changes. And I appologise for what I said.

  • @bufalo1973 I would pay to see a remastered re-release of this movie.

Hell, I like this movie more than I ever liked Star Wars. Yes, the original one.

  • I wouldn't want to see a remake, however, a sequel would be great! Of course, Lance Guest is old, overweight and balding now. (didja see him on Jericho??) Of course, it could take place a couple of generations later. We could have Gunstar Mk4's by now.

  • For all those who want a remake of this... I say thee nay! Why subject this movie to the pure SUCK that is today's Hollywood? Let it stand the way it is, and be remembered properly with fondness.

I wouldn't be adverse to a sequel, though.

  • @phantombelcher Indeed. Just because you can doesn't mean you should. Leave it be. Make a sequel if anything must be done, like they did with Tron.

  • @phantombelcher AMEN! Hollywood fucks everything up soooo much now. I have no desire to go to the theater anymore. I watch mostly 80s and early 90s movies, I think that is the last batch that were good before the shit storm.

  • @phantombelcher I agree with you and say nay!! This movie was an still is a source of inspiration to me. Leave it alone!!!

  • @phantombelcher I'd have no problems with a remake, so long as it has a good traditional orchestral soundtrack like this one.

  • If they can remake Tron which was computer intensive as it was back in the '80s, then they can damn well remake the Last Starfighter. I mean, it might have taken the most powerful computer of the '80s (a freaking Cray II no less) to do some of the scenes, but there's LAPTOPS out there now with more computing power. Imagine, just imagine, what a Gunstar would look like nowadays. It almost makes one drool at the thought.....

  • Meanwhile, in the 80's...

  • I almost wish they would remake this movie. With some of the video games today, you could almost believe they are intended to be training tools of some kind. I would nominate Hugo Weaving to be Zoor.

  • freaking love this movie when I was a kid. I just got the 25th anniversary BluRay for my son, and he fell in love with this movie too. :)

  • Lafoleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • I am the last Starfighter!

  • @WhereDidItAllGo7 I am the Last Dragon!

  • one of my fav theme tunes!! makes me wanna be a starfighter!!

  • Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary Entry #721882

Star League: A refuge for weak worlds not willing to be our equals.

  • I wish there really was a game they show in this movie... ... and then after I'd set a high score into that game I'd be enlisted to join Starfighters... *sighs* a man can dream... VICTORY OR DEATH!!!

One of my favorite movies of all time.

  • @TimoWikstrom Go to site RogueSynapse. They have developed playable versions of video games featured in movies that you can download and play. Starfighter and Space Paranoids from the original screening of Tron are included. Pretty cool. Who didnt want a shot at the Starfighter arcade game after seeing Alex break the record. Check it out.

  • @turloghtheblack

    Wow! Thanks for telling me.

  • Forgot to commend the state of the art CG graphics showcased in this movie. For the time they were awesome and well balanced with the rest of the production. Needed to point that out after I realized I slammed CG in modern movies.

  • A classic soundtrack for a movie that represents the standard for most of the 80'scinema. Fun. Ordinary mixed suddenly with the fantastic. Sad to see movie making like this be replaced by predictable plot garbage with computer generated special effects.

  • What do we do!?! WE DIE!!

  • Zur made a youtube account just to dislike this ;)

  • What a perfect space adventure theme

  • Grig: I'll have it all figured out by the time we reach the Frontier.

    *alarm goes off

    Alex Rogan: What's that?

    Grig: The Frontier.

  • An EPIC.....CLASSIC!!!!!!!!!!!!.........

  • Ultimate sci-fi and fantasy soundtrack now available on iTunes. Search Sci-Fi Fantasy soundtrack

  • @flamingmarsupial This was made with computers!!!!! They used a Cray XMP...... it was one of the first movies to employ the use of a computer effects to such an extent!

  • This was the first ever film my dad bought on VHS....back in the day....awesome!!!

  • I still have the storybook for this movie! Lol.

  • VICTORY OR DEATH!!!

    VICTORY OR DEATH!!!

    VICTORY OR DEATH!!!

  • Wow I love this movie!! Not sure how many are out there but I'm one that saw this movie at the theatre when it first came out. Many of us actually cheered at the end of it!!.. hehe.

think I might be a fan of it? My e-mail address starts out as "alex_rogan..."... lol ;)

  • wow i was born in 89 and i remember this movie. Mom taped it on VHS (remember those?) and i got to see this movie.

  • fuck yeah now i have jack burton "kurt russell" tattoo and the last star fighter logo as well....next I'm thinking the soul Glo bottle from coming to america.

  • fuck yeah now i have jack burton "kurt russell" and the last star fighter logo as well....next I'm thinking the soul Glo bottle from coming to america.

  • Who's the Kodan who disliked?

  • @lestef23 it was one of those damn Zan-Do-Zans!

  • @thisisrumorcontrol LOL! Yeah! Damm those! :P

  • It's strange how often Hollywood has recently come to rely on films of the '80's for their "new" movies. Could it be that films were more entertaining then?

  • @flamingmarsupial

There was definitely something magical going on in Hollywood between 1977 and 1984. A golden era. If you look at a single five week period in 1982 you have:

Star Trek 2 - The Wrath of Khan

    Blade Runner

    ET

    The Thing

    Tron

  • @KaitainCPS Excellent point, Katain! :)

And somehow, some way, they did it without the help of computer-generated special effects! They had good writers with real imagination (Joseph Campbell and Nicholas Meyer, for example) from which to get their stories, which were filled with characters you really cared about. The theme music was moving and memorable. Going to a film was something you and your friends looked forward to all week, not a download from Netflix.

  • @flamingmarsupial This movie is actually a pioneer in digital effects. You may remember it more fondly because the effects seamlessly blended into the story and the visuals didn't take over and drag on like, say, Matrix 2 and 3. The problem isn't with the technology, it's with the execution. Just look at the Pixar films.

  • The OSTs nowadays do not have the real spirit of music...

Space Odyssey, Star Wars, Cinema Paradiso, and many etc....

    Ah... the old days...

  • Great movie, Great music-- and they play the main theme in Condor Flats at California Adventure. This theme is the main reason i like to hang around that area.

  • @LightoftheSky I like this ad the theme to THE RIGHT STUFF when a go through Condor Flats.

  • Death Blossom FTW , nice campy movie, try to suspend belief while you watch it.

  • ive just bought this film on bluray its that good it made me cry i remember this film i was only 12 when it came out on video they dont make them like they use to do in the 80s

  • This was my shit right these type of movies will never get old I intend to show all these to my son like my dad did for me.

  • Such a great movie! I really wish they would have used practical FX though (like Star Wars). It would have looked SO much better. Anyway, I hope they either remake this, or give it a sequel (ala TRON).

  • @Dreaklock In 2008, it was reported that a sequel is in the works. Tentatively titled Starfighter, the film reunites director Nick Castle with writer Jonathan Betuel and actor Lance Guest. George Paige is the film's executive producer, with co-production by Universal Pictures and Relativity Media. (exerpt from wiki article)

  • God, even as a kid I loved this music.

  • People who think Jar Jar Binks is cool gives this a dislike.

  • This movie is so underrated.

  • Childhood favourite movie =D

  • Don't forget to add &fmt=18 to the end of the link!! So much better quality.

  • Comment removed

  • The IMDb still shows the supposed sequel for this as coming out in 2010- I do not see how that is at all possible now.

  • it's a classic

  • Death blossom the one guy who disliked this.

  • My cousin got married and this was the music they walked off to after the marriage was complete. So much win.

  • i've just been took back in time and i'm full of emotions. managed to hold in the tears??? Me and my brother grew up watching this film, at least twice a week.

this and starchaser 'the legend of orin'.

  • This music is used in the Sorin' over California rides at Epcot and Disney's California Adventure

  • Seriously one of the best theme songs of all time!

  • If regular people were allowed to choose their own soundtrack that would play each time one enters a room I would choose for myself the theme from "The Last Starfighter" .

  • @jaysonness I Want this as my funeral march.

  • @thisisrumorcontrol You'd need to die a pretty awesome death to deserve it!

  • @WindupAtheist Well I don't see a Kodan armada around or any Zan-Do-Zan's to kill sooooo got any ideas?

  • fantastic score...really heroic!!!

  • Greetings, Starfighter! You have been recruited by the Star League to defend the Frontier against Xur and the Ko-dan armada.

  • Ok its been 25 years already....lets get a sequel! The Last Starfighter 2 Revenge of the Kodan!

  • I need this song anyone know where to find it?

  • Where can I get this sountrack?

  • Oh my God, this is awesome!

  • Yeah they need a ramake of this movie that would rock!!!! like Kiss detroit rock city!!!!!

  • 2010 is now almost halfway over and there still is no official news on when a sequel to the 1984 film is coming out. So either the project has been cancelled or no updated information on it has been provided. If there really is going to be a new movie- there is no way it will be able to come out this year. This probably would be better off just having a remake rather than a sequel since 26 years have passed since then. They are now resurrecting just about everything from the 1980's with remakes.

  • Aim High - Aim Star League!!! I want to be a Starfighter!!!

  • Greetings Starfighter...

    =D

  • How do you do? Put the shotgun down grandma.

  • Awesome poster. Why don't they make them like that anymore

  • I just realized looking at the poster that Back to the Future totally stole the DeLorean from this movie!

  • "Back To the Future" used the DeLorean as the car because that was one of the most popular models during the decade. They appear in a lot of films that were made from 1981 to 1985. That one in this movie is not a DeLorean at all. It just looks like it in the poster. The car in BTTF did not even fly until Part 2 which came out 5 years after this movie.

  • If it's not a DeLorean what is it, some kind of Lamborghini?

  • I do not know what kind exactly- I did not make the movie. But I do know it is not a DeLorean, it just looks similar to one by the shape. I have seen this movie quite a few times and saw it was too big to be a DeLorean. "Back To the Future" did not rip off the idea to use it as the car from this. They originally were going to have the time machine be a refrigerator- but Steven Spielberg was worried a child would crawl into one after watching the movie and accidentally lock themself up inside it.

  • God this brings back some momories! Great film! Now my children can get to watch it!

  • I Want the bad guys to win!

  • I'm not even 19 and I know this by heart.

  • what is this shit all about

  • Are you referring to the sequel everyone is going on about?

If so- I do not really believe there is going to be one. At least not this year anyway. The IMDb page that mentions this makes it look as if this is not really official. There is no synopsis written out for the plotline nor is there a cast listed out for all the characters other than one returning from the original. I think this is just a rumor made up to get the fans excited. An official page would have all the information released.

  • Lance Guest(Alex Rogan) was on an episode of Jericho back in 2008 and he looked almost exactly the same as he did when he starred in this movie in 1984.

  • "they're in another demension, fighting evil"

  • I want a model of the Gunstar.

  • Great Score! Of of my favorite movies growing up.

  • @ToniMaples I remember when spam used to make sense.

  • Hey guys, a sequel has been announced for 2010. Source IMDB.

  • really!? that's awesome!

  • LOL really? Christ no one under 30 will remember the first one.

  • i'm 19 and i remember every single scene

  • LOL thats unusual.. I just got my friends younger GF to watch Conan for the first time.. as far as she knew he was just the governator lol.

  • @MrTheebs I just read that the script is completed, the only thing holding production up is the financing of it.. What a shame.. How stupid Transformers 2 and 3 can be made, but not a great classic like this. -

  • @SpaRtanl33tz i love the last starfighter also, but transformers 1, 2 or 3 are not stupid...in many ways they are more well known than this, and thats what hollywood makes....the average moviegoer dont care about what us 30 and 40 sumthins wanna see

  • @yankeesrule587 Notice I said part 2 and 3; you have to be kidding me, per movie goger part 2 has to be the worst movie ever; made a huge budget but only because of the name, the movie just plain sucked. Part 3 is not out yet; and the only reason

Transformers is more well known is because starfighter was a small budget movie from the 80s for gods sake cant compare it to Transformers in the cataogory of well known.

  • @SpaRtanl33tz lol there have been far far worse than transformers 2.....tf2 was sloppy, but not a bad movie...it also had the misfortune of being written during the writers strike and rushed out....the 3rd will not suffer that fate..... i could gather a list of the worst movies.....but lets start with "night at the roxbury" .u decide if TF2 was better or worse than that, but since u seem to hav so much hate for transformers, at least the bay versions u might say roxbury was better

  • @yankeesrule587 ha ok worse then T2 without a doubt

2012..... I dont have a hate for Transformers ; enjoyed part 1 part 2 was God horrible.

  • @SpaRtanl33tz like i said, tf2 was sloppy...but i dug 2012....saw it in IMAX, lol...im a sucker for world destruction, what can i say

  • Wow I've never even heard of this movie till now. Thanks for the post! I can't believe I was missing out!

  • I sometimes wonder if I would have known about this movie if my dad had not rented it when I was 9-years-old. It looked really cool back then, but it looks like 1980's crap now. I hope they do not really make a sequel to it this present decade. It has been proven that does not really work.

  • True, the only way I'd like to see a sequal is if it is like the original, no changes. I'm all for better effects, just don't change the story.

  • I think it is too late to make a sequel- that should have been done just a few years after the original. It is not a good idea to wait 25 years when the original actors are all way older. If they have to make another movie referring to this- it should be a remake. Different generations are around now and would possibly not be familiar with the original. It would look too far outdated for them. If this does need to be a sequel- it should be about totally different people who mention these events.

  • @JLC31383 / ?

  • I think it is stupid to make a sequel to something more than 25 years later. The first movie is far outdated for today and was made before every young person who is alive now even existed. Kids who were alive when the first movie came out are all old enough to be parents now. Everyone who was in the first movie is either dead or old. I do not like sequels that use a totally different cast from the original trying to replay all the characters. So the new movie should be about different people.

  • Hey everybody The Last Starfighter is coming out on Blue Ray on 8/18 and is been totaly redone to look great.

  • You mean with improved graphics?

  • great fanfare up their with the imperial March by J. Williams

  • I remember the first time I saw this movie it was in the theatre. Naturally SFX are leaps and bounds better than they were then but I thought it was fantastic!! Combine the cool graphics ( of the time) plus an incredible story makes this one of my favorites of all time.

  • The Gunstar's animations still hold up after all these years. Can't really say the same for the explosions(let's be honest, they really should have used the same technique used in Star Wars, which was to matte a real explosion into the picture, and left out the fake spinning 'debris'). Even the acting holds up to today's standards to an extent.

  • This was the first movie to use all computer graphics.

  • Not quite. TLS was released in 1984, while TRON, which also made extensive use of computer generated imagery, was released in '82. But TLS *was* the first to use *realistic* graphics in the CG segments. In fact, for a long time I thought the matted ship on the landing pad during the ceremony was a physical model. It's actually the CG one, with better lighting.

  • with a sequel in the works life is good!!

  • I saw the imdb page, but I don't want to believe it. I really won't believe it til that shit's actually in production and there's footage being released.

If they make it poorly I think it's going to ruin my childhood, which this film was a foundational element of.

  • Ahhh! You ended a sentence with a preposition. Move "of", it belongs in front of "which". Please do it now.

  • Sheriff of Rottingham: King illegal forest to pig wild kill in it a is!

  • Pure Win.

No young man worth his salt would turn down the chance to be a Starfighter!

  • @ingwersengrady Sign me up now! (and the other 94 who gave it a thumbs up!)

Think the 1 hater is Xur

  • @wasp27 That Xur...what a jerk!

  • Pretty great music score, this movie had an early spielberg feel to it and the music helped alot.

  • Still a childhood dream for me at age 30. I was 6 when this came out - The Last Starfighter is A LEGENDARY FILM underscored by many with a SUPERB soundtrack - YOU KNOW YOU'RE TAKING YOURSELF BACK TO A TIME OF UNPARALLELED MYSTIQUE - THE 80'S ROCK.

  • I got this video 4 free when you brought 3 BASF 3 Hour Video tapes at Myers stores here in Australia & yes I still have the Video, Cheers.

  • Man this brings back memories. This movie rocks. I think every kid wanted to be Alex.

  • a + man for putting this up! great film.

  • there's a version of this song on iTunes by the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra... listen to it, it's a 180% better than the original

  • This film fucking rocked

  • internet movie database lists it as in production, opening in 2010, the title is Starfighter. directed by Nick Castle.

  • NO F*****G WAY!!!! It says it 'follows' the first film. It should rock.

    Should...

  • Man, as long as it doesn't taint this beautiful part of my childhood.

And if it remasters or remixes this amazing theme song I'll be happy.

  • Apparently I heard that the sequel will involve Alex's brother being recruited after Alex is killed in battle.

  • I havent seen the sequel...too bad alex died...One great movie for all time..80's childhood rocks!!!Simply the best..

  • Such a great movie, and equally great music...a sequal is in the works from what I've read.

  • great

  • Thanks for the memories and soundtracks of the

    'Last Starfighter' its ausome...

    Sincerely,

    Willard G. Thomas Jr.
