We'll resume NBC News live coverage of (name of mission) after this message from Gulf.........
..(this commercial)..........
Frank McGee, back here at Cape Kennedy, where we are at T-Minus 13 minutes, 24 seconds and counting prior to the launch of (name of mission). Back at the NBC News Space Center in New York, David Brinkley and John Chancellor have a feature about how to take photos off your TV screen of this morning's launch,. David, John?.........
You know, this isn't the original commercial but I sort of like it better than the original. The real commercial was basically overhead shots of static ships while this one has some action and movement to it. Thanks for posting it.
I also remember this ad from the mid-1960s -- these commercials were frequently run during coverage of space missions. I've had this song in my head for 45 years, which I suppose says something about either my odd brain or the effectiveness of Gulf's ad campaign. Thanks so much for posting this.
I remember seeing this commercial on TV..I'm trying to date it...I think it was about 1972-1973--right before the Arab oil embargo but about the time when the media was beginning to speculate on the finite level of oil reserves....
Compared to other songs, used in all other comercials thru the years,,,,,,this one still KICKS ASS!!!!

Actually, the commercial song goes back even further.
I remember it from the mid-Sixties, when Gulf sponsored the TV coverage of the Gemini Space program!

@xenonman
Not only space flights, but Gulf sponsored the political conventions on NBC.
