Cette interprétation est une belle leçon, absolument remarquable... je sais, je me répète, mais... c'est beau ! cela ne souffre pas de discussions !!!!!! D.BABEL
five minutes ago I received a mail from Jenny Setchell, as I mailed before greetings from Germany and from the "Sister" Rieger Organ in Dinkelsbuehl from 1997 ( III/58 ).
It is wonderful played and the organ sounds very similar to "our" Rieger.
Well played CLive. It's a jolly Scherzo. Just one thing though no TV monitor in the Rieger Console then ? unless it's broken and your waiting to get it replaced. Also, I did hear of the unfortunate incident of the hot air blowers that were use when the Church heating had broken down. Some of the delicate Reiger mechancial action was not working . I imagined it's all been sorted out now.
The only thing is, Clive-----for Guilmont--- this is such an easy piece!
The made us play it at sight, transpose it (at sight), melodically invert it, and play it backwards (in different keys!) as an undergraduate admissions requirement for the U of H Organ Department.
I LOVE this piece altho one of my organist friends thinks it is too "Victorian"; but then he is quite the Francophile and would probably love this instrument since I've heard other organists say this organ really more suits the French pieces (I love Durufle BTW). Anyway, Clive Driskill-Smith is a terrific organist and I've had the great pleasure of hearing him play the Gabriel Kney at Grace & Holy Trinity here in Kansas City, MO.
Great sounding neoclassical instrument. Sounds somewhat German. I do Miss the big, Big, BIG Heavey English Reeds though. Very skilled musician. He looks more like a rugby player than an organist but I won't hold that againt him...LOL;)
I have a feeling this man played this peice at Redcliffe on a young organists day recital. He may have played it....... not sure........ I have heard it somewhere........
Wonderful! Never heard this piece before - thank you for uploading the video. Would love to hear more performances, either from choir or Christ Church organ.

kudos to the videographer. You put in a lot of time synchronizing the great sound with the various takes. Nice job!
Well-played Guilmant, and I think the organ sounds great.

I agree. And the flues sound a bit french.
It's not a very convincing organ, I think,
a bit a comprimise of German, French, and
English elements, heaped up in one organ.
I'd prefer still having the original Willis
or whatever it was, and just have added a
new organ in the Quire of the Church in
another style. Or just leave it!! Even better!
We've got plenty of organs in Oxford, right?
