  • Anybody know tami stronach?

  • This is so f-ing cool... I know alot of those people in the video..circa 1984... VERY COOL VIDEO! Thanks so much (BHS Alumni 1986)

  • gawd! im tha class of 07! i miss b-high so much wish i was around in the 80s

  • I don't know what BHS was like the 00s but I've heard we had a lot more freedom in the early/mid 80s.

  • it look like it was awesome back then, it was too ghetto when i went there, i mean u could just walk off campus and never come back i used to cut all tha time in 9th and now that i think about it that was way too lenient buh i graduated and am proud to say i've graduated from one of the best high schools in California.

  • Its like if I remember hard enough I can almost picture you standing there during lunch filming people, I see Andrea in it a few times, Classic 80s footage, dreams of summers, I can see the writing on the wall...

  • I can't remember if we hid the camera or not. :)

Andrea was a good friend of my sister's at the time. One of these days I plan to do a better film to digital transfer to capture the details better.

  • Critter, BHS, class of 1985, I see some haky sak hippies and some cut class stoners I knew, and I think some punker chicks as well! ha ha, you should redo it with Kadachrome, that would work perfectly, real arty, enjoyed, C.

  • Thanks for the comment! It was a much better video before YouTube pulled out Paul Simon's Kodachrome. The song timed almost perfectly to the original, unedited super-8 film. If you want to see what I mean, start the song around 0:10. :)

  • That was awesome! I didn't attend Berkeley High, I graduated from El Cerrito High in 1984. The interior shots look very similar to the old El Cerrito main building. We had a hackey sack crew at El Cerrito too! :-)

  • Class of '05... a straight throw back, now imagine '84! Wish my old days were back, long gone.

  • ...basically, you just have to "trick" it. Record the song from a stereo or even your computer's external speakers with a microphone. Then it will be an anolog recording that will not have ANY DRMA data. Then you can save it as an .MP3 or .WAV file and add it to you video. As far as the computer knows, it's just random noise. The YouTube bots or whatever won't be able to detect it.

The sound quality won't be as good, but it will work. LOL...and that's how I used to tape songs as a kid.

  • Cool video. I have a collection of vintage 8mm cameras, and I shoot 8mm movies sometimes as a hobby.

By the way, I did see your video before WMG censored it. And there IS a way around it. I think YouTube uses some kind of program that can scan your videos for imbedded MP3 files in the soundtrack, and then it probably checks it for some kind of DRMA data that matches up with songs they have on file. But there is a way around it.

  • Did any cool seniors at your school drive a Delorean?

  • hey this is awesome! im class of 2010! everything is pretty mush the same except the outside is not as trashed and different lockers! man i wish i was in high school during the 80's much simpler and cool...er.

  • The class of 1984 25th Reunion is set for July 3rd 2009 at the Bancroft Hotel. Google for the web page.

  • oh my god. i know these people! The film quality adds another 20 years...

    Thanks for posting this!

  • I missed my BHS Class of '85 reunion. I heard Mike Marshall performed, and many 84/86/87 grads showed up. They were always on our jock, because class of '85 was "all the way live" - those were the days...

  • Great how it switches to color just as Paul sings "the nice bright colors." And how the film speeds up with the piano at the end. Very well done.

  • Class of 84 here, I actually think I remember you making this. Were you standing on a ladder? I remember Fish saying a nark was taping the steps for evidence! lol Thought I saw Megan W and Madori?? Where was Sasha?? Wonder if we can name all the kids in it? Great blast from the past!!

  • Class of 85'. Thanks so much for posting this, I remember the guys who used to play hackysak in the courtyard just like in the film! The clothes and hair styles (Aligator Polo's) take me right back there. Community theater steps, yep...Man we're old now!

  • Thank you! And, yep. We're old. ;)

  • Thanks for posting this video!

I really like home movies. Back in the early and mid 1980's I had an 8mm Movie Camera too,

and I wished I'd taken mine to high school with to film with but I was afraid that 1,2 or more kids would steal and/or break it on me! I wish I could step into a time machine and go back to the 1980's when I was in high school and get movie footage!

  • John Swett High c/o '87 here. Man, this is great stuff! I wish someone would've brought a camcorder to my school back then.

    Thanks for posting this.

  • Hey John, c/o '87 as well. The super-8 movie camera I used to film this was probably about 5 times smaller than the available camcorders. Those things were crazy huge back then. :)

  • Yes those full size VHS camcorders,

were big and clunky! The weight of one was 10 pounds, it was the size of a loaf of "Wonder Bread" and if you had it on your shoulder for hours and hours you were hurting! Ouch!

But analog was all there was back in the 1980's!

  • Class of '86 here... this is awesome. Thanks for posting.

  • Class of 1988 here...I was one of the graduation speakers; great school.

  • Class of '90! So great to see the ol' big hair of the 80s! Haha..

  • went to this HIGH SCHOOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Class of 2004!!! never have those times again...boy they were fun.

  • Wow, that was some great footage. You've inspired me to bring my camcorder to school, get some footage, forget about it for twenty years and then watch and think "well, that's berkeley high."

The courtyard is still exactly the same, as is the C building (sans new lockers). I don't know whether you heard about this, but a couple of the buildings burnt down in the late 90's early '00s, so they built new ones that are really modern looking and snazzy.

    Thanks for sharing!

    -abby (class of 2009)

  • Thanks! And, yeah, you should bring your camcorder to school. Take the shots from the same vantage points and we can compare.

I hadn't heard about the fire. I missed the tour of the school for the 20 year reunion we just had (c/o 87) but I heard there was some snazziness going on. :)

  • wow...it still looks the same! Not really a surprise, but...still, that's cool. I like anything that's before my time, ah well. I think we still had some of those desks until this summer, too.

  • What year were/are you?

  • '08. :)

  • Nice document, thank you for sharing it.

But... seems as if you did't have enough money for real Kodachrome films back in 1984... ;-)

  • ok thanks admann!!!!

  • whats the name of the song?

  • Kodachrome by Paul Simon

  • Like what you did with the music to accompany...great song...
