    Where has it all gone?

  • @hoodstarollin black music, black culture, genuine musical presentation from all genres have been destroyed by the pop ascension movement which put a stranglehold on the music industry in the late 80s, particular 1987

  • Awwww That BaseLINE......! (Getting my 2 step ON!!!!!!)

  • ohh what a decade 4 music this was just the start of the 80s and this song starts it all offf very well done

  • The Funk was always of funk statement. Always the baddest bass and rythemmmmmmmmm. oh yea

  • baddest funk band

  • boy were they bad (good)

  • No wonder so many artist from back then claim to be broke. Look how many people they had to split the money with =) Love this song.....I miss the 70's and 80's music.

  • A wonderful funky classic, AWESOME GROOVE !

  • Funk for ever!!

  • Saturday nights at T-Quillia's in L.A. A little Slave, a few white russians, and some fine ass ladies. At least after the drinks they looked fine. Memories of being a young cat in L,A, Miss it and the Monte Carlo I had. Good times. Not the same up here in Utah.

  • RIP Mark "HanSolo" Adams and Mark "Drac" Hicks. Sad to see the greats from this era pass away. Thank you for your contribution to this thing we call music.

  • Slave- The first concert I ever went to as a little white girl, Hammersmith early 80's, loved it!

  • @oakleylee21 Are you still white?

  • Whatever happened to Brit-Funk?!!

  • When Steve sang the last part of this song, (Is what I meant to say) I HATE when I make TYPOS, LOL!

  • THIS SONG IS SAMMING This is a KICKED @SSED SONG (Espically @ 4:02- 4:39, that's what makes this song, when Steve the last part of this song. J P Saw it differently, (J P was a friend of my mom & I. He was an actor & singer. He had a part in the movie The Color Purple I Can't say his name for his protection), but he didn't like the ending, but to ME, that's what made the song,,, But what ever the case may be, this is a GREAT SONG!!

  • @Getrealpeeps Yeah, I agree with you. That's one of my favorite parts of the song. It's just Steve having fun vocally. Isn't that what music is about, self-expression?

  • steve arrington is the truth!

  • this lyrics use to fit my profile in my younger days I luv it

  • im so glad my dad raised me on funk like this

  • @DjSkyfaze Your dad must of known mine... because all he played was classics like this.......

  • @noirnoticvibe lol my dad used to play gap band, brother johnson, prince and rick james he knew what was up lol he also had me raised on that classic hip hop

  • Before there was a Snoop Dogg.

  • Slave and their music is timeless. I remember growing up on Slave's music. True masterpieces. I also love all of their individual projects. They're too funky. HOT!

  • this was the jam. Slave was another great band. This is serious music.

  • I was in the 8th grade

  • i remeber every friday fish fry nite my ma in my pops in they friends listen to dis song even doe dat was 1996 it feels like yesterday

  • Way back before idiot no brain producers got into the business!!

  • I understand the whole concept of my my brothers keepers in all but with the hugh bands of the late 60's and 70's control of the groups/bands and royalities was a reason many of them broke up and went seperate ways. Steve Arrington was the lead vocalist of this group but due to him being disenchanted with the makeup of the band he decided to go it alone...not saying that was a wise move because his career fizzled after that.

  • Slave was a bad ass group back in the day, but I have to say with that many cats in the group somebody did not get paid.

  • i luv it, real funk music

  • N!!!CE

  • Why am I so convinced that the young artists of yesteryear were far more talented and creative with their music and sound than what we are getting today? Is it just me?

  • Ain't that Kashif at the lead???

  • 6 dislikes,whats up with that!!!!!!!

  • @IAM7DEMONS Bieber fans

  • S/O to the City of Dayton Ohio, What up Marc Hicks AKA Drak!!!!

  • Whatever happened to R&B with instruments? Young country and rock artists still play instruments, what happened to R&B? It's a damn shame.

  • @vraydio Look up the ROOTS, they still play with instuments and a band, but your point is well taken though...

  • @vraydio Because having a 9 piece band causes issues w the

    cash flow, lol!

  • @tmat1973 Atlantic Starr started off with 9 and when they got a deal they started dropping em off like flies and they ended up with just The 3 Brothers and they sucked.

  • @XConYoungBlood True! Saw the doc. on them last week. Man, year by year, more water was added to that shit until all the flavor was gone!

  • @tmat1973 You mean Drac? Hey man those Brothers are old now and they trying to milk it for whats its worth and I dont Blame em. They left us with The Original Music and we will always have that. Times have changed, The frequencies in the air have changed but all we gotta do is go get that original album and get all those funky vibes bro.

  • @XConYoungBlood No. I meant Atlantic Starr. They had a documentary about them on TVOne!

  • @tmat1973 Yeah I saw that TVONE Unsung documentary. That was our era. Its so sad to see them old like that. The music was so hnest and sweet.

  • @tmat1973 Oh YEAH? TV ONE?? I don't think I get that channel :( I know I probably would have liked that...

  • @vraydio THANK YOU, I TOTALLY AGREE!!

  • @vraydio I agree with you wholeheartly, it's like we've gotten lazy and uncreative. The music has died in the black community. There are some good artist's but not enough.

  • @vraydio Young black people after the bucks. Why spend three years learning guitar when you can buy a digital workstation and start pumping out tracks in a week?

  • @vraydio You are 100% right. I was thinking about this after I watched the Grammys. Mostly every act, except the black performers play instruments. It's really unfortunate.

  • Please believe it... It's a dam shame!

    Tsunami

  • @vraydio Ain't that the truth, So many inner city youth need the chance to learn music. I grew up in Bklyn, NY and we had music in lower, middle, and high school. We had band, etc. Music & learning to read music really helps the mind develop. Truly a damn shame our government takes away the progressive activities for our youth and leave nothing but trouble for them to get into.

  • @mhbeach entropy

  • @mhbeach "helps the mind develop" ..... thats why they got rid of it, they want mindless drones.

  • @vraydio People got lazy.

  • @vraydio the synthesizer and drum machine happened.

  • @ArtfulOdin A synthesizer is still an instrument. It requires a human being on a keyboard (the above song is an example). I'm talking about the profileration of sampling and pre-recorded "beats" instead of using actual musicians.

  • @vraydio They still use real instruments, mostly in the neo soul game, but not alot in the mainstream with this 'crossover urban' stuff

  • Time less!!!!!!!

  • Who did funk better, Slave or The Ohio Players?

  • @bdw19691 That's a tough call to make. Both groups were talented funk bands. The Ohio Players could play funk and love ballards--BUT THEY COULD NOT PERFORM LIVE. I saw them in concert numerous times and each time was a disappointment. Slave had some success with "Slide"--"Stone Jam"--"Watching You" just to name a few.

Ohio Players had more hits, but Slave did it better LIVE. That's just my opinion!

  • @bdw19691 U cant make that call....OHIO PLAYERS brought my parents out the 60s into the 70's birth of the FUNK.....SLAVE carried on the sound and took me and my crew n2 our growness....lol...dance 4 me STEVIE.....watching u!!!!

  • THIS IS WHEN U COULD GO TO THE PARK AND EVERYBODY WOULD BE BAR B QNG AND U DINT HAVE TO KNOW THEM TO EAT THERE FOOD.

  • musica legau

  • Sounds like SNOOP dog sampled this: listen to the beginning- sounds like part of "Gin n' Juice"

  • @Whatwon1 --Yes he did!

  • @Whatwon1 Snoop basically remade the song. Listen to "Let's Get Blown"

  • Gona do a little dance 4 yah!!!

  • Ahhh--shuckey duckey--quack quack. This is still my jam!!! Slave was one of the funkiest bands

ever. Steve Arrington had his own unique way of singing his lyrics. Heard that he is an evangelist

now, and some of the other members are still performing. This group will always be the Kings of Funk!!!

  • Yep,this rock...!!!!

  • THIS SONG JUST FEELS GOOD

  • OOOOOOOO THIS IS MY JAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is the what it is! last of the great bands of the 80s.

  • I can remember singing this song, saying "walking down the street watching men watching me." One of my favorite summer songs.

  • DAMN that's a big band

  • @miamivicepastels83 because back then you had a horn section, percussionists, drummers (conga set etc) guitarists, pianists, backup singers plus the lead..that's why they SOUND so great! Not all this programmed stuff =(

  • @summerchile yes but imagine splitting that royalty check

  • @summerchile I agree with you 100%....the golden era of music featured REAL PRODUCTION...not manufactured production......huge difference

  • This song is so HOT!!!! I think back when I first met Steve Arrington back stage during a concert, he was young and wild then (80's) a lot of years went by and Slave left a lasting memory in all our minds. RIP M L Adams and Drac we miss you both. A Shout out to my close friend and brother Steve Arrington...love your new music that's out.

  • I grow up in Maryland in all but 3 yrs of my life !! but when they played this,me and my homeboy next door knew it was time to wash our " RIDES " and take the seanic route to " HAINES POINTS " !!!!
