Hello Shawnta! Okay, so I really want to start dreads. The length of my hair is to my neck but I don't want to go thru the "ugly" phase of having the short dreads! i luv ur vids, a yr ago i started my dreads w/ yarn and human hair, after yr one i had nearly seven inches of negrowth but for some reason i cant color my locs (yarn ends) can u provide answers please?

It's because it's yarn,,, yarn and hair require different types of bleaching techniques. Bleach that you use for clothes is for fabrics, but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do NOT disrespect your hair by putting fabric BLEACH anywhere near your hair.

Have you tried cutting out the yarn? Or those ends. A lot of people who start with extensions or yarn cut off the pieces that still have extension.

Forget thinking about length. Hair grows back hon.

i did a variation on this today where i basket weaved as shown only midway and then split into two and basket weaved each side down. i am really happy with how it turned out. looking forward to more hair tutorials for you soon. we with long locs need more options!!

Thanks for this vid! Wish I had've seen it before I cut my 2nd set post partum feeling like I wasn't pretty. My locs were just past my shoulders. I used to groom at home but never got the nack of styling my locs. Well I'm on set #3 (still in twisting phase, only a month in....my stylist used a mix of shea butter and honey which is holding very well) but each journey feels like a new one. Now I know who I can come to to learn how to style them :)

People keep telling me that trimming hair can make hair grow faster, should I trim my hair to make hair growth increase or is that a myth? Thanks

Your hair is only going to grow a certan amount of a month regardless of what happens on the ends. If you trim your ends then the chance of damage traveling up the hair shaft and causing breakage diminishes but it doesn't cause growth.

I haven't colored my hair since I went natural in 2001. The color that you see is what was left over when I decided to dye my hair a strawberry blond and that reddish color right above the blond tips are in the genes because in my family everyones hair tends to turn very red with sun exposure.
