@BPH55 That's the point, otherwise it wouldn't appeal to you. Ryan uses a lot of narrative in his songs, so it's not actually him who is singing the songs, it is a made up or composite character, hence why the narrative voice has similiar characteristics to yourself.

Yeah man if you listen closely you can hear that every individual picked note is on a downbeat, even the complicated sounding hammer-ons and pull-offs. So just get that strum rhythm going with your right hand and use your thumb to grab those occasional down beat notes. The notes tend to all be bass notes, so think country...bass chika bass chika bass type deal. Hope that helped.
