I would love to chat with you more about Dionne and your career. I hope you are
still in the business. I gave up pursuing a career in show business but still believe it is my real calling in life. Hope you are having a GREAT Memorial Day
I cannot believe I have been talking with Michael Miller...I love the theme song
Michael! I've got the music somewhere in a songbook I purchased way back when
I was auditiioning for shows. In fact, Dionne opened with "Solid Gold" when she
came to Clowes Hall in '86. (Thanks for the perfume name.) I remember how wonderful she smelled, even from the front row. I also remember how beautiful her legs were!!! ( I know, I am really a fan).
When I was studying vocal performance in college, it was my dream to host a show
like "Solid Gold" and perform with Dionne. I try to sing as much as her music as I can
because it is my favorite; particulary the Bacharach-David albums. She truly is a "Singer's singer." That will always be a major part of my life. Thanks for listening.
It was great to hear you say you had worked with her on Solid Gold. In what capacity?
I met her once when she came to Indianapolis. I had my picture taken with her and
she was lovely. I sat in the front row to see her in 1986. After the show, she bent down and kissed me on the lips. I was 18 then. She smelled so good and I had her scent on me all that night!! Though it sounds funny, that was one of the best nights of my life.
@mbotman It's nice to hear about all of your admiration and enthusiasm for Dionne. She is really about as incredible as can be! I was the musical director and theme composer for Solid Gold for the entire run of the show. Oh, and that perfume that you were surrounded with in 1986 was Shalimar!
Thanks bigeyezzzzzz. It saddens me to hear people speak ill of Dionne and others like her. Even someone today that I work with said, (though she did not mean to offend me) "Dionne cannot sing anymore. I guess they do not understand how great
she WAS. I know everyone has their "day", but people tend to forget that I guess.
How Dionne could go up and down and change melodies so effortlessly in her prime. There was no one like her.
Wasn't Dionne beautiful? I was 14 then and loved her then as I do now. When I have heard her sing this in concert...you can tell it is her favorite. Such poignant lyrics. She has always said Hal David wrote lyrics from the heart. Such a tragedy about Harry Chapin..I did not know he had died like that. He was another example of poetry set to music. Thanks for posting these segments. I love them dearly....always will!
@mbotman You're very welcome. It was an incredible time in my life to have worked with Dionne through her Solid Gold years. What a beautiful person she was - and is - in all ways.
EXQUISITE SINGING.

Why can't Dionne Warwick sing like that today?

I was in the audience for the pilot of this show.. It was horribly lip-synced!

@Oyving FYI: Dionne never lip-synced on the show. The band tracks were prerecorded, but the vocals were always live.

This was Harry's last TV appearance . He died in a car accident a few weeks after taping this episode, and it aired after hid death

I have forgotten that so many of SG's guest hosts were actually friends of Dionne.
