  • 5/5 ace footage

  • What a fantastic piece of footage. Some very sticky brakes! MY LOOOORDZZZ!!!

  • Now thats an instant fave! 5* there, thanks for sharing.

  • Sounds like the brakes are not coming off properly before the power is applied.... maybe it was Mr Aitken playing to the crowd lol.... tremendous sound though from a beast of a loco... where are you now 427???

  • Motherwell I do believe, either that or toton. It's on a WNXX pool code, so not much happening with it at the minute.

  • Very poor driving technique though in reality and will have done little for the health of the loco. You should wait for the brakes to come off properly before applying that amount of power. When the train is underway with the brakes released, the old girl doesnt really struggle too badly.

  • well, considering it is a 1050 tonne load I am surprised the 37 got it going at all! They werent deisgned to haul trains this heavy, and even a 37/7 heavyweight would have struggled to a degree.

So it's not bad driving technique, its the dead weight of the train.

  • Frankly thats not true at all as the maximum load for a standard 37 over this route is more than 1050 tonnes. They WERE designed to haul trains of this weight and had a very long and fruitful life in South Wales hauling lengthy and heavy coal trains over highly indifferent permanent way on steeply graded tracks. The trick is to get the brakes off with the controller marginally open so that the train doesnt roll backwards and then (watching the brake pipe carefully) slowly apply more power.

  • Hellfire!
