  • If you are a homebrewer or know one, White Labs sells brewing yeast in the bottle blanks. So should be a good source for those, and you are right they are indestructible.

  • It is amazing that the stove weighs less than most of those tubes, even knowing how little the stove weighed I was surprised when I picked it up. I actually bought a stainless steel drinking flask for transporting fuel, but it only holds about 7 ounces, I will need something bigger

  • I just got one of those whey protein drink tubes today. I got home and dropped it when putting away the groceries. It cracked and started leaking the drink everywhere. I would say it fell 4' onto my kitchen floor.

  • Sorry to hear that but thanks for sharing that info. Good to know. I didn't think they were as strong as the soda bottle blanks. May I ask what your kitchen floor is? I'm hoping tile or stone.

  • tile

  • Thanks Hiram, I was looking for something to transport my olive oil and other spices when hiking.

  • check out stevespanglerscience. they sell the tubes 15 for 9.95 and a 8oz for 6 at 10.95

  • good find

  • I wondered how you could talk about tubes for 7 minutes. Now I see, good information. I didn't know those tubes were blanks for 2-liter bottles. Makes sense since the mouth is so much thicker than the walls.

The tubes look good for storing seeds also. Collecting while your on a hike or spreading native seeds in bare areas.

  • Hiram

The larger tube and pill bottle combo would be great for salt, pepper etc. I hate having salt that is damp and won't shake.

  • Do you put rice in with your salt? I like to use rice because it helps keep the salt dry and free-flowing. You don't need a whole lot of rice.

  • cool

  • Ok Im going to admit it......I carry the old urine sample containers (UNUSED). They are the tall wide mouth ones that they use to use at the VA. I just asked for a few and a lady gave me 10 of them. They seal great! LOL.

  • They'd better seal great for what they are designed to carry, hehe.

That reminds me, I was once shelving some new age books in a bookstore when I was much younger. Beside each other on the rack were two books:

    "Urine Therapy"

    and

    "Don't Drink the Water"

    (Good Advice)

I clearly remember one of the books having a yellow jacket, lol

  • Nice info, thanks for sharing!

  • There is a product called Keep2Go that looks like your tubes

  • Who sells them and what do they cost?

  • They are on amazon 5 for $22

  • The larger tube might be what I need to safely store a cherry bomb.

  • on county comm they drove over it with a fire truck

  • Holy cow, really? Did it do anything to the tube? Do they have a video of that?

  • yes they have a vid and it just scratched them a bit

  • I really appreciate it Hiram, thanks.

If there are two levels of threading all around the cap, you can mail the bottled alcohol (in your provisions package) to a post office for thru-hiking pick-ups. The package can only be sent ground and must be clearly marked and specially packaged according to USPS instructions for flammable materials.

  • I don't know about the two levels but it's the same threading like what is on a two liter bottle of Coke. Sorry, I know thats obvious since it is the blank for a soda bottle.

  • Just for your info, when moving vertically down the outside of the mouth of the bottle, if you encounter at least two screw threads, at any point around the mouth, the PO considers it a safe seal for transporting flammable liquid (provided the container won't dissolve of course).

Many caps like Px drug bottles only have one thread most of the way and overlap at only one small portion. Those aren't acceptable.

  • ha ha ha i hope there water tight

  • They're water tight and alcohol tight.

  • Hi Hiram how are you?

    Another great vid thank you.

I rember see'ing those little bottles @ a drinks company but had forgot about them thank's 4 reminding me now I must find sum.

  • That's a totally tubular video, Hiram.

  • Thanks LOL
