I often think that all the Asian races believe that white people like them more than other minorities. I have to disagree on one point: the riots are named, "the Rodney King Riots" but it's not the entire reason. King and Harlins were part of the reason the riots happened. It was ongoing brutality by certain members of law enforcement, not all of law enforcement. There was a third incident which was highlighted during that period but I can't remember it. Rodney King's incident just threw fuel on a fire which was already burning hot, and burned it out of control.
And in saying all that, I still say we shouldn't give up trying to better understand and accept each other in spite of all the lies and negative press we experience. Incidentally, there is a touching story of a part Chinese, part Black girl in mainland China who experienced discrimination through a tv show contest many thought she should've won. She comes from a single parent home there. But she does have the support of quite a few citizens, many whom are friends and associates. Check it out!!

To angryantiracist : The girl who was killed, she was 15 yr old La Tasha Harlins. There was an argument between her and the female storeowner/clerk over, what I think, was orange juice. Long story short, they got into an altercation at the counter and the clerk pulled the gun. The girl turned and started to run and that's when the clerk pointed the gun and fired, hitting Harlins in the back of the head and killing her. The video was only briefly shown on television.

In fact the VAST majority of whites didn't own slaves at all. It was mostly rich land owners in the Americas...and they made only a small percentage of the total population of whites. Many whites did stigmatize blacks as slaves, though, but this was social convention, not purposeful intent.

I forgot to say this was a good video because it seemed pretty unbiased and when the anniversary came up there was very little discussion. Most of what I did see was stuff saying "black people shouldn't mess with koreans because they were waiting to use there skills learn in mandatory military service" and other divisive and manipulative language.

I often think that all the Asian races believe that white people like them more than other minorities. As long as Asians keep acting meek, mild and stay in their place, they are the "better" of the races of "color." If you Asians REALLY opened up, you may jump to number #1 on the most hated minority list.

Asian people LOVE to talk (at least that has been my experience). I find them to be honest, not meek and mild but sarcastic and bitter. When you speak up for yourselves, those feelings will change for the better. Blacks understand and would admire you for your courage.

I agree with AAR's comments of whites pitting races against each other. Most people are asleep at the wheel regarding this. I dated a Pakistani and white men would boldly stare at us because that scared them. As if the races of color start communication what will happen to us? It is a well-known fact that Latinos' in LA hate Koreans. They say when they go into their stores Koreans are rude, etc. Another case of people being pitted against each other.

Well i from experience have found out about a form of racism from an asian man and what he has been taught about interacial dating. The older chinese or korean generations have been taught to look at african americans like we are nothing. Or if you marry someone it is be better to marry white if they were to choose to marry outside of there race. Reverse racism it just makes me confused as to say "Why"?

I have to disagree on one point: the riots are named, "the Rodney King Riots" but it's not the entire reason. King and Harlins were part of the reason the riots happened. It was ongoing brutality by certain members of law enforcement, not all of law enforcement. There was a third incident which was highlighted during that period but I can't remember it. Rodney King's incident just threw fuel on a fire which was already burning hot, and burned it out of control.

And in saying all that, I still say we shouldn't give up trying to better understand and accept each other in spite of all the lies and negative press we experience. Incidentally, there is a touching story of a part Chinese, part Black girl in mainland China who experienced discrimination through a tv show contest many thought she should've won. She comes from a single parent home there. But she does have the support of quite a few citizens, many whom are friends and associates. Check it out!!

I think the guard was put there to protect the interests of wealthy Americans. But I have to be honest with you. More than a few kids in the middle school I attended held racial hatred towards Asian Americans and one in particular made a gutter remark about a gym teacher who was just doing her job. Ironically, a White gym teacher whom many of the guys including myself looked up too, came and squared the situation. Racial understanding fails in all directions for different reasons.

To angryantiracist : The girl who was killed, she was 15 yr old La Tasha Harlins. There was an argument between her and the female storeowner/clerk over, what I think, was orange juice. Long story short, they got into an altercation at the counter and the clerk pulled the gun. The girl turned and started to run and that's when the clerk pointed the gun and fired, hitting Harlins in the back of the head and killing her. The video was only briefly shown on television.

That's why I thank god for my Caribbean heritage; a mix of African, Irish and a little Syrian thrown in there too. My ex bf was Caribbean; African/Chinese/Indian mix. Who should I hate.
