Impressive & good responding. The Amiga was always smooth & the hardware hasn't been too much wasted under AmigaOS. So hope OS4 is still in the right place in time space to get its space to exist calmly & develop. Also Firefox comes to AmigaOS4, so it looks not bad :)
There is a VERY similar OS that IS built for x86 though, called AROS. You might be interested into looking into it. At very least, it's fun to toy around with.

Hi, thanks for replying. I've seen found it, although I can't use it yet... awaiting Hans to finish 3D driver hardware compositing support for the R4000 series.
you haven't to wait 3d drivers but you've to wait Hans finishes full 2D support for R600/R700 ati radeonHD which are hd2000, hd3000, hd4000, the 3D driver is another story
For those of you who aren't exactly Amiga enthusiasts but want to give Amiga a try, I recommend Amiga Forever Plus or the free alternative of WinUAE or UAE4All for other platforms. The disk images needed to run Amiga are freely available online. You can just do a Google search of what you need. You can also get several games from Lemon Amiga.
@ExtraTerrestrials Considering the fact that a large percent of multimedia related eductional courses and businesses use Macs, I highly disagree with it being a "Noob's" OS.
@Jullzzzz Lol, smart move to call the OS that actually was first with multitasking an OS for retards (all the while yout shitty PCs & Macs could only do one thing at a time :P). Learn a bit about the OS before you just throw around meaningless comments.
1) you can fabulously watch porn, play games, copy your homework, do old people stuff, photoshop, code and everything else on the first 3 that you mentioned...
@nextVTgenerati0n Yes.. but you wouldn't have as big of a smile when doing it. I've only just realised that AmigaOS is still doing something and that childish glee has washed over me. I remember when using a computer used to be enjoyable. Nobody can code any of those three like the old demo scene could on amigas. Trust me, I'm a developer and I get some funny looks at the way I do things, but the problems nobody else can solve get passed to me. I owe that to the amiga community.
Cos'è il multitasking... cosa significa avere una grafica real-time basata su algoritmi... questo è un sistema operativo scritto con tutti i crismi, non coi piedi.
This video is one of, if not THE best MIDDLE FINGER to any other OS out there...
To anyone who says what he was doing is not useful doesn't have a CLUE as to why because he NEVER HAS and NEVER WILL be able to do this on any other OS...
The Amiga was one of the great multimedia computers of its day. It deserved a better fate than what it received (this from an owner of an Atari ST). Sometimes the best technology does not always win out.
@ace942 Your are right, I also am an Atari ST owner, I bought my 520st back in 1986 (still have it). Commodore's management drove the company and the machine right into the ground. They were so clueless as to the machine they had, and how to market it..
@goldsak No im just asking. Will any companies ever make games for this OS? Only amigas programs can run on it, not even open source? I just dont get the idea. But ofc. it looks nice, but who could ever make a program for this, that wont be beated by a open source program?
I doubt 'Amiga' will ever be mainstream again. Ever., But that doesn't and shouldn't stop people from working on it. Computers are a completely open medium. More power to them I say.
In answer to the comment you deleted. Yes, I have heard of, and used all of the applications in your list which I ran on my Amiga 1200.
There was only ever one argument for using the Amiga and that's that it was cheap. If you were a professional with professional results to obtain and a professional budget, there was hardly ever a reason to get one except that you had an axe to grind about how great the Amiga was.
@vapourmile Such as what? EMailer? Newsreader? Web browser? Media player? OS 4 has all of those and more. Granted, they are not the slickest but they are there.
What? No, how could I mean that? That's a list of the basic utilities that are packaged with pretty much every computing devfice from standard mobile telepones and up and doesn't make for any kind of selling point. Nobody would benefit from migrating to a Amiga OS for merely that level of functionality.
@vapourmile well, that pretty much negates your "Amiga has no apps" statement.
What do people benefit migrating from Winjdows to Mac? Mac to Linux and so forth? Each pretty much have the same thibngs. Just implemented differently. To say that the Amiga has no apps is a disservice. It mauy not have what you personally want, but have them it does.
God, I hate what YouTube have done to their comments section.
@Orlor It doesn't. It would be easy to start making a list of applications you can't get on the Amiga. Certainly not at an equal level of maturity and sophistication that you can on other OSs at least. The point I was making is that I don't want to migrate to an Amiga just to get some basic utilities I can get on any platform.
@Orlor to say that Windows, OS X and Linux have pretty much the same applications is naive. Again, if you're only looking at simple utilities like web browers then you may not see a significant difference because you can get web browsers for all major OSs. As soon as you start to look at professional applications though there are differences so big that there are no professional reasons to choose an Amiga. This is the truth of why the Amiga suffers as a platform.
Because it takes forever for many programs to load (like calculator, Word) and even when I roll over the taskbar clock to check the date I usually have to wait or even click on it to bring up the darn calender.
Sure when you start with Windows fresh it isn't like that, but such speed doesn't last after a few weeks of use.
interesting OS... just want to know what kind of programs it runs.. if it can run windows programs or mac programs without any emulation I'm sold... if not I can't see what's so special about it...
We aren't living in a world where we only use 3 OSes, so your comment was rather pointless.
Alizta : It is not pointless. There are 3 MAJOR OS'es. BUt there are much more OS'es that people use. OS'es that appears under "others" category on web statistics and so on.
I don't get why this comment comes up on my PC as spam. It's factually correct and resonable. There are three main popular OSs but lots of OSs available. One place that is seeing a lot of activity in this area is the mobile market with Operating systems like Symbian, Andriod and others.
Why in first place I want more than 3 OSes if I can do all that which 1 (Mac or Windows).
Having multiple OS can be funny but not practical, Im still trying to find why amiga users are so proud of this system if it lack of any practical use.
It solves a lot of common OS Problems in a better way, that is what is special about it. It does not run Windows or Mac software without emulation, as no OS that i know of does.
It also follows a different OS philosophy, is more to the metal, smaller and thus requires less resources for itself.
So far it is more of an hobby os. But hey, bonsai trees are a much more boring hobby.
@Slench101 What is special about the Amiga OS is that it entirely located in ROM, meaning no virus can attack it, it can't be hacked, it is fast and when I say fast, I mean fassssst. Create a Ramdisk to boot from rather than HD and the thing is ready to use in just seconds. It is still way ahead of it's time. Even today Microsoft, IBM or Mac cannot compete with it, which is why between them, and the bad leadership at Commodore Computers they killed it!
@Slench101 Amiga is an different architecture, In the case you ever needed to run some software from a different architecture, how are you gonna do it withhout emulation? Ignorant go back to your youtube videos.
@Slench101 Does Windows run Mac applications directly? And MacOS run Win apps? No of course. Here it's the same. It's another OS which runs differently, better or worse than others depends on what you are looking for :-)
That's a pretty good OS (and that's coming from a Windows user). But something that some people seem to think below is that it's better than this that or the other thing. No mater what all OS's have there pros and cons. No single OS can combat all others. For example Windows has the advantage of being universal whereas Amiga has added desktop functionality whereas Linux is open source whereas Solaris supports cloud computing and so forth. Whatever you do, dont think your OS is superior to all.
Not to say that all operating systems suck, but it also depends on the users needs. What does the user expect from his OS. Using the example above, if a person wants to be able to do more things with there desktop, Amiga would probably benefit them well. If they expected their OS to run in a data center, Solaris would benefit them well. It all depends. Just don't make the mistake of saying that any one OS is better than another.
The main problem with AmigaOS (and Mac) is that I don't want to be associated with condescending, smug assholes like JasperObnoxxious, who seems to think he's a little bit better than other people just because he uses a different OS.
readingsome of the posts, i think a lot of you have missed the point. no one is saying "leave windows/mac and use this". this is an enthusiast thing.
i wont be building a ppc and running Amiga os but i love the fact that some ppl are. its nice to know that ppl still have computers that are just for fun, a bit like the amiga back in the day.
I stopped using my Amiga's as my primary machines ten years ago. I see there hasn't been much evolution since. Lots of eyecandy, yes. But the same old GUI which is many years behind in terms of functionality. I don't care if a pc needs many times the power to run windows, the hardware is many times cheaper. I can't even use hardware the way Linux can. This movie just shows again the limitations of the community. So what, play anims and music, what about REAL applications!
Then tell me what REAL application there are for Linux or what for REAL applications you are using. AmigaOS is a great system, especcially if you know how to use AmigaDOS and ARexx. You can optimize a classic Amiga 1200/040 that it boots in 26 seconds, including free selectable bootpic and boot-MP3 - no other system is able to do this. MorphOS 2.4 now has the advantage of working on Mac Mini's - a great platform, MorphOS 3.0 betas are even working on Powerbooks.
What's the need for a fast booting system? I start my pc in the morning, never reboot and shut it down in the evening. I don't look at bootpics anymore, use the same desktop backgrounds for years and don't use music for startup... I'm 32 now, I grew up.
Real applications? Doesn't matter what I want in the world of windows, it does exist. Uptil 10 years ago I tried to keep up with Wintel upgrading my Amiga both in software and hardware. It doesn't work. I quit making a fool of myself .
what do you mean by "REAL" apps for linux or whatever?!?!
i use freeBSD, OSX, Linux and only windows when i am fixing other peoples computers for them.
if you are implying there are no "REAL" apps in linux, you are a fool my friend. linux has tons of powerful software and i am sure amiga's got decent stuff although i do not use it.
as someone who does music production, graphic design, pentesting as well as programming, in linux(also mac)
Linux has no professional applications like Photoshop, Cubase, Logic, Final Cut, Quark XPress etc., for this you have to use a Mac or Windows. For companies is Linux no alternative, only for private users. And private users could choose the OS they like best. A favorite of mine is still GEOS on the C64/128.
I experimented a bit with 64bit-Suse-Linux, Ubuntu, Gentoo Linux PPC and even Solaris 10, but I never learned to like it. So I'm using OSx86, the best OS you could install on PC hardware.
1st. adobe pays "crossover" to make sure photoshop runs
well under linux - i use it on both mac and linux.
as for audio production - i use native instruments kore plugins
hooked up through midi to a sequencer(MPC) running into ardour, with some other gear as well. you can cluster computers to under linux. so you can dedicate hardware for tasks - very powerful...and i use logic on a mac as well.
but it is possible to do some amazing things under linux...
look at the "Receptor2" rackmount made by Muse Research...
for more reliable than any macbook/laptop for synthesis
on stage. and i have seen a sick studio in person, that is built on linux.
lots of companies do use linux, not photographers, or film makers. but nearly all big companies have a linux server or two and companies like google use them in their offices...
I'm not saying that Linux is bad. But I can't imagine that a company who does professional gfx works is using Linux with Photoshop in Crossover. It would be similar useful like using Linux with Virtualbox to run Windows in it. I know Crossover for Mac, and it is no real fun. Parallels or VirtualBox is working fine, I'm using a Windows-VM to use TVPaint Animation Studio, which is based of TVPaint from the Amiga. Unfortunately my Socket 939 Opteron has no hardware virtualization.
Haven't you ever heard of WINE? You can run basically any Windows software there without performance-drops. Last time I checked, Photoshop runs just fine, among with any other.
There's still the same problem: The software is still for Windows, not for native Linux! There's no Photoshop for Linux, No Cubase for Linux, no ProTools for Linux, no QuarkXpress for Linux and so on. Running Windows programs via some kind of emulated API doesn't make them to Linux programs. Tell me one Linux app which made it to a standard in professional use, and on which distribution it runs.
Hopefully with the lawsuits settled Hyperion can market the OS and future hardware. With all the problems Amiga has had for many years it has done well to still be around. It could have died a death in 94 but has been kept alive for the last 15 years by people who love it. So at the end of the day i dont care how many people use it. You seem to be showing alot of interest in it. If you are not interested, why comment? Go and play with windows 7 and enjoy that.
With the news that Hyperion have reached settlement witn Amiga inc for the rights to the OS and amiga trademarks 2010 looks bright for the amiga userbase. With the lawsuits settled hopefully more developers will return to the platform and hopefully new hardware will follow. Thats why im holding off not getting a sam440-flex at the moment. 4.1.1 will be due by the end of the year with 4.2 on the way hopefully in beta form next year. New hardware bundled with 4.1.1 or 4.2 would be ideal.
Run apps(note icons in opened windows)such as text/graphics/printing etc,,,
People forget the bottom line is to get your ideas from your head into a format, paper/video/mp3 etc...It doesn't matter what you use, just that you get the outcome U wanted..Windoze people R always trying to keep up with the Joneses that is why Bill Gates is Filthy rich!!! WordPerfect from 1993 will still make me a resume as a 2009 version!
microsoft = terribly written bloatware that the majority of people use as it is the most supported and is currently the industry standard.
Apple = trendy looking, very stylish.... bloatware with performance roughly on par with Windoze on the same hardware.
Linux = user unfriendly mess of badly written, though mostly free, apps that run on non descript faceless and numerous clone distros all saying "Me too!"
You got it in one. If you keep "building" onto a wobbly platform in order to keep compatibility, before long you have a bloated spaghetti coding nightware that runs roughly the same speed as a dead cat.
Every so often you have to dump it all and start again - 'tis progress.
Remember what they used to say about Windows - "Windows is like a dancing bear. It's not how gracefully it dances, its that it actually dances at all."
Lol, are you joking? Or are you yourself just a joke? As for programming, except for a little pascal many years ago - the answer is no, I dont code. But you dont exactly need to be a coding guru to see an operating system that requires 1 GB + to install is fucking bloated to the gills! I think you may be under the impression that OS 4 is OS 3.9 "patched up" - you may want to do some research. If you use linux and/or Windoze Im sure you would be used to Sinclair type performance. :)
Lol, 4gb - thats compact!!! Lol, you're a funny guy, i'll give you that, I mean insinuating Linux is compact and efficient in one sentence.... then using l33t speak in the next. :)
Menuet boots to a multitasking GUI desktop in 1.44 MB including apps.... but that might be because it isnt written by a collection of half talented kids trying to shoe horn their latest spaghetti masterpiece into an already hopelessly bloated os, what do you th1nk? :)
You were using sarcasm? Like, roolly?? Lol, as you can see, I have a basic grasp of the concept of sarcasm, and no, yours was not lost in transaltion, but merely used to take the piss out of your post.
Menuet is a project to create a super efficient os written in assembly, it was never designed for REPAIR of Os's - where did you read that shit?!?
Menuet is a multitasking gui os, so is linux, they both run apps, how is any of this illogical???
How do you know anything about the quality of Microsoft's code? How is Linux user unfriendly? Do you mean the desktops (i.e. not Linux) and how the hell can you compare Workbench to either Gnome or KDE? Are you really that deluded? You keep saying "bloatware" blah blah "performance". Come up with some numbers, some examples...
Please stop sharing your verbal diarrhea. Linux is unfriendly from the first time you attempt to install an application right through until you attempt to chance a kernel - thats why its free, has heaps of software and is still not hurting Windoze, which may be crap but at least it isnt user unfriendly.
Gnome or KDE are slow and cumbersome - and you are comparing them to the mighty Workbench? Are you really that stupid?
Numbers? AmigaOS installs in 30 Mb, uses 2 Mb ram to read pdfs...
Assuming ubuntu Linux, click in the menu for the package manager. click on the program you want and wait for it to finish. Job done. Sorry I couldn't name it in the actual terms as I don't have an Ubuntu setup since I built this pc.
Thats very true, I have feisty fawn still installed on a system somewhere in my collection. Problem is, is the sfotware is not listed in the repository.... then what? :)
I found this out - the hard way. :)
Ubuntu is definately a step in the right direction though, still difficult to stomach after using some better designed OS's.
AOS uses a centralized lib system - light years ahead of the Windoze and linux mess. AOS uses datatypes to seemlessly intergrate new datatypes into programs never written to use them.
ANY OS still requiring the ridiculously outdated system of, lol, v memory is so inefficient as to be laughable... you really enjoy Sinclair type computing dont you? I can a boot up, play an mp3, watch a movie, read a pdf before you get to a login screen!
Windoze - when you have nothing better to do than wait.
No, Windows is a standard so low that any competing Os's merely have to reach the same LOW level of performance to be considered alternatives.
Windoze is of course SO well planned that Vista lasted 18 months before news of it being dumped because of its woeful performance... Explaining how bad Linux, OS X and Windoze are to someone who has never used an efficient os is like explaining what a naked woman looks like to a geek born blind...pointless.
Lol, you wonder, you have feelings - a true renaissance man. :)
I do apologize for my substandard english, but english is merely my second language, I communicate best through poorly written operating systems. :)
I personally have not programmed in years, and when I did I only got as far as turbo pascal.... but after considering 1gb+ to be acceptable for an operating system install I think the real question is - have YOU ever programmed?!
Lol, us Amigans were laughing at IRQs, extended memory, hercules, cga, ega etc etc for years.... and your point is?
Sorry, but you don't win any prizes for stating the obvious, whether you are 13 years old or not, this is all common knowledge.
Personally, I believe Windoze was the perfect OS for Pcs. Hardware slapped together with no foresight or elegance and a poorly implemented gui sitting on top of a decidely average dos subsystem just waiting to crash... good call. :)
Lol, and you had the hide to insinuate I was missing YOUR sarcasm! :)
I believe I said it before, but I simply MUSt say it again - you are a funny guy if nothing else.
I have NO idea what point you were attempting to make by saying my sweet Amiga is running a port release on pc. Is that english?
If you are talking about Aros, you should do a little research before opening your mouth -I run Icaros 1.1.5, which is Aros, which is an API compatible Amiga OS3.1 - NOT Amiga OS 4.1. Sad. :(
I wish there were a way to run this on a standard PC :( I want to try it but don't have an Amiga. :(

@nextVTgenerati0n Yes.. but you wouldn't have as big of a smile when doing it. I've only just realised that AmigaOS is still doing something and that childish glee has washed over me. Trust me, I'm a developer and I get some funny looks at the way I do things, but the problems nobody else can solve get passed to me. I owe that to the amiga community.

The Amiga was one of the great multimedia computers of its day. It deserved a better fate than what it received (this from an owner of an Atari ST). Sometimes the best technology does not always win out.
ace942 1 year ago
@ace942 Your are right, I also am an Atari ST owner, I bought my 520st back in 1986 (still have it). Commodore's management drove the company and the machine right into the ground. They were so clueless as to the machine they had, and how to market it..

I doubt 'Amiga' will ever be mainstream again. Ever., But that doesn't and shouldn't stop people from working on it. Computers are a completely open medium. More power to them I say.

Open source has nothing to do with whether programs will run on it.
There are open source Amiga programs.

@vapourmile What applications do the other ones have that are missing in this one?
Orlor 1 year ago
In answer to the comment you deleted. Yes, I have heard of, and used all of the applications in your list which I ran on my Amiga 1200.
There was only ever one argument for using the Amiga and that's that it was cheap. If you were a professional with professional results to obtain and a professional budget, there was hardly ever a reason to get one except that you had an axe to grind about how great the Amiga was.
vapourmile 1 year ago
Every premier application in existance.
vapourmile 1 year ago
@vapourmile Such as what? EMailer? Newsreader? Web browser? Media player? OS 4 has all of those and more. Granted, they are not the slickest but they are there.
Orlor 1 year ago
What? No, how could I mean that? That's a list of the basic utilities that are packaged with pretty much every computing devfice from standard mobile telepones and up and doesn't make for any kind of selling point. Nobody would benefit from migrating to a Amiga OS for merely that level of functionality.
vapourmile 1 year ago
@vapourmile well, that pretty much negates your "Amiga has no apps" statement.
What do people benefit migrating from Winjdows to Mac? Mac to Linux and so forth? Each pretty much have the same thibngs. Just implemented differently. To say that the Amiga has no apps is a disservice. It mauy not have what you personally want, but have them it does.
God, I hate what YouTube have done to their comments section.
Orlor 1 year ago
@Orlor It doesn't. It would be easy to start making a list of applications you can't get on the Amiga. Certainly not at an equal level of maturity and sophistication that you can on other OSs at least. The point I was making is that I don't want to migrate to an Amiga just to get some basic utilities I can get on any platform.
vapourmile 1 year ago
@Orlor to say that Windows, OS X and Linux have pretty much the same applications is naive. Again, if you're only looking at simple utilities like web browers then you may not see a significant difference because you can get web browsers for all major OSs. As soon as you start to look at professional applications though there are differences so big that there are no professional reasons to choose an Amiga. This is the truth of why the Amiga suffers as a platform.
vapourmile 1 year ago
Windows is a burden :(
SMGrawks 1 year ago
Why?
vapourmile 1 year ago
Because it takes forever for many programs to load (like calculator, Word) and even when I roll over the taskbar clock to check the date I usually have to wait or even click on it to bring up the darn calender.
Sure when you start with Windows fresh it isn't like that, but such speed doesn't last after a few weeks of use.

I don't get why this comment comes up on my PC as spam. It's factually correct and resonable. There are three main popular OSs but lots of OSs available. One place that is seeing a lot of activity in this area is the mobile market with Operating systems like Symbian, Andriod and others.

@Slench101
But hey, bonsai trees are a much more boring hobby.
alizta 1 year ago
@Slench101 What is special about the Amiga OS is that it entirely located in ROM, meaning no virus can attack it, it can't be hacked, it is fast and when I say fast, I mean fassssst. Create a Ramdisk to boot from rather than HD and the thing is ready to use in just seconds. It is still way ahead of it's time. Even today Microsoft, IBM or Mac cannot compete with it, which is why between them, and the bad leadership at Commodore Computers they killed it!

Dms12444 2 years ago
Not to say that all operating systems suck, but it also depends on the users needs. What does the user expect from his OS. Using the example above, if a person wants to be able to do more things with there desktop, Amiga would probably benefit them well. If they expected their OS to run in a data center, Solaris would benefit them well. It all depends. Just don't make the mistake of saying that any one OS is better than another.
Dms12444 2 years ago
The main problem with AmigaOS (and Mac) is that I don't want to be associated with condescending, smug assholes like JasperObnoxxious, who seems to think he's a little bit better than other people just because he uses a different OS.

So what, play anims and music, what about REAL applications!
flexyco 2 years ago
Then tell me what REAL application there are for Linux or what for REAL applications you are using. AmigaOS is a great system, especcially if you know how to use AmigaDOS and ARexx. You can optimize a classic Amiga 1200/040 that it boots in 26 seconds, including free selectable bootpic and boot-MP3 - no other system is able to do this. MorphOS 2.4 now has the advantage of working on Mac Mini's - a great platform, MorphOS 3.0 betas are even working on Powerbooks.
RCtesch 2 years ago
What's the need for a fast booting system? I start my pc in the morning, never reboot and shut it down in the evening. I don't look at bootpics anymore, use the same desktop backgrounds for years and don't use music for startup... I'm 32 now, I grew up.
Real applications? Doesn't matter what I want in the world of windows, it does exist. Uptil 10 years ago I tried to keep up with Wintel upgrading my Amiga both in software and hardware. It doesn't work. I quit making a fool of myself .
flexyco 2 years ago
what do you mean by "REAL" apps for linux or whatever?!?!
i use freeBSD, OSX, Linux and only windows when i am fixing other peoples computers for them.
if you are implying there are no "REAL" apps in linux, you are a fool my friend. linux has tons of powerful software and i am sure amiga's got decent stuff although i do not use it.
as someone who does music production, graphic design, pentesting as well as programming, in linux(also mac)
i find you line of questions obtuse...
triplesquarednine 2 years ago
Linux has no professional applications like Photoshop, Cubase, Logic, Final Cut, Quark XPress etc., for this you have to use a Mac or Windows. For companies is Linux no alternative, only for private users. And private users could choose the OS they like best. A favorite of mine is still GEOS on the C64/128.
I experimented a bit with 64bit-Suse-Linux, Ubuntu, Gentoo Linux PPC and even Solaris 10, but I never learned to like it. So I'm using OSx86, the best OS you could install on PC hardware.
RCtesch 2 years ago
1st. adobe pays "crossover" to make sure photoshop runs
well under linux - i use it on both mac and linux.
as for audio production - i use native instruments kore plugins
hooked up through midi to a sequencer(MPC) running into ardour, with some other gear as well. you can cluster computers to under linux. so you can dedicate hardware for tasks - very powerful...and i use logic on a mac as well.
as for video i wouldn't use linux
triplesquarednine 2 years ago
linux is harder to get working well than a mac,
but it is possible to do some amazing things under linux...
look at the "Receptor2" rackmount made by Muse Research...
for more reliable than any macbook/laptop for synthesis
on stage. and i have seen a sick studio in person, that is built on linux.
lots of companies do use linux, not photographers, or film makers. but nearly all big companies have a linux server or two and companies like google use them in their offices...
it's becoming common
triplesquarednine 2 years ago
I'm not saying that Linux is bad. But I can't imagine that a company who does professional gfx works is using Linux with Photoshop in Crossover. It would be similar useful like using Linux with Virtualbox to run Windows in it. I know Crossover for Mac, and it is no real fun. Parallels or VirtualBox is working fine, I'm using a Windows-VM to use TVPaint Animation Studio, which is based of TVPaint from the Amiga. Unfortunately my Socket 939 Opteron has no hardware virtualization.
RCtesch 2 years ago
Haven't you ever heard of WINE? You can run basically any Windows software there without performance-drops. Last time I checked, Photoshop runs just fine, among with any other.
AtlasRedux 2 years ago

Amiga1200Mark 2 years ago
With the news that Hyperion have reached settlement witn Amiga inc for the rights to the OS and amiga trademarks 2010 looks bright for the amiga userbase. With the lawsuits settled hopefully more developers will return to the platform and hopefully new hardware will follow. Thats why im holding off not getting a sam440-flex at the moment. 4.1.1 will be due by the end of the year with 4.2 on the way hopefully in beta form next year. New hardware bundled with 4.1.1 or 4.2 would be ideal.

reality of today,
microsoft = computing superpower,
apple = counterbalance,
linux = best hope against superpowers.
i like linux with minimalist enviro like fluxbox
walter0bz 2 years ago
Really? I thought the reality was more like:
microsoft = terribly written bloatware that the majority of people use as it is the most supported and is currently the industry standard.
Apple = trendy looking, very stylish.... bloatware with performance roughly on par with Windoze on the same hardware.
Linux = user unfriendly mess of badly written, though mostly free, apps that run on non descript faceless and numerous clone distros all saying "Me too!"
Then you have all the other OS's
JasperAbraxxious 2 years ago
maybe
"bloatware" = reality of fixing all the problems on the fly to keep it mainstream.
if you throw everything away to start again, guess what.. you have no users.
walter0bz 2 years ago
Bingo!

Come up with some numbers, some examples...
shiroidebukujira 2 years ago 2
Please stop sharing your verbal diarrhea. Linux is unfriendly from the first time you attempt to install an application right through until you attempt to chance a kernel - thats why its free, has heaps of software and is still not hurting Windoze, which may be crap but at least it isnt user unfriendly.
Gnome or KDE are slow and cumbersome - and you are comparing them to the mighty Workbench? Are you really that stupid?
Numbers? AmigaOS installs in 30 Mb, uses 2 Mb ram to read pdfs...
