What i was trying to say was even though is technically not a true .50 like some of the other guns in the family, m95 for one, it is the most common name for it. so you fail kind sir, not me

I guess the man using it was wrong but i do know that there are barret rifles that fire 25mm, and i have heard of a few barret rifles that can fire 20mm. Oh well though xD. I do know about the anzio and the NTW but there is another i think, i have seen the other in person as well, the lahti at gun.

same reason theres several versions of the M16/M4 variants. They all have patents and later obsolete models, and the designation systems makes it easier to know what model is current. Kind of like a patent on any other item in this country. Also the fact it is easiest for inventory and record keeping. Instead of writing out "Barret .50 cal" like you said, you can just list it as M82 and so on.
