The only way around it is to add more lag to the landing animation (stupid idea, not worth it to fix wavedashing) or to remove directional airdodging.

Lol, Wavedashing and L-cancelling are not put in the intentionally. They're called engine exploits, pal.

L canceling was in the 64 version and was a glitch. SO they put it in melee. Wavedashing was there because they wanted an animation for dodging in the ground, but they didn't expect people to dodge right before the character leaves the ground.

No, wavedashing is there because when you airdodge the engine automatically jumps from 0 speed to a very high speed to give the effect of your character quickly 'floating'. Because they didn't expect people to dodge into the ground on purpose they didn't make this speed boost cancel, so your character hits the ground and since there is no finishing air animation it acts as if your character just hid the ground as a high velocity and it makes them start sliding (or 'wavedashing').
